Why is Lillian allowing this to happen?

FFS Lil, he's just a bit on the side. If he pisses you off just bin him. Don't start sounding so downtrodden.

They're just a normal couple something just because they're not at one another's throats or whatever doesn't make them boring (i'd have thought Roy and Hayley were on the verge of boring actually Grin) He'd drive me actually!

ppeatfruit · 16/07/2013 12:30

I meant to put; drive me "mad" !!!

Somethingyesterday · 16/07/2013 12:50

But Rhys (?) simply doesn't seem to have ANY personality or background. And Fallon had so much potential.

(Does anyone else remember the beginnings of a story about Rollo? Her DFs new partner's son. They were going to be in a band together and she seemed very taken with him. It would have been FASCINATING. But no. They dropped it. I have never used the word "gutted" before....)

Somethingyesterday · 16/07/2013 12:56

You couldn't call Roy and Hayley boring! With her history with poor John / the TTC problems. And his criminal youth, romance with Kate, fight for Phoebe etc, etc. the fact they have a quiet, stable life now is joyful set against what they've been through to get there....

Panzee · 16/07/2013 12:59

Oh whatever happened to Rich/John? I thought he was on his way in to claim a stake in the farm and really pee off Hellin and Sausage King.

ppeatfruit · 16/07/2013 15:16

something I remember that story about Rollo but it would've meant her going away for long periods of time.....it could've worked Grin!

Roy and Hayley are just so mainstream (i speak as a being a bit of a rebel esp. when it comes to education ) not one of TA DCs are H.E. are they?

Somethingyesterday · 16/07/2013 15:33

ppea What an interesting idea! But - thinking back to when TA began I'm not sure intellect was quite the thing they were aiming for!

Whose academic achievements have been celebrated? Jim and Alastair are incomers; Alice's postgraduate study was only ever presented as a problem... It would be great to have both H. E. and happily intellectual (indigenous) characters.

Anyway, they always punish rebels. Neither Shula nor Jenny has quite grown into what they might have been. And Kate - but no, Kate was self-centred rather than rebellious....

GrimmaTheNome · 16/07/2013 18:56

OK, listen up TA SWs....Nic's baby must be a prodigy. She (please) might be HE for a few years but then would need some G&T program.

Just think what it would do to Emmur! Grin Her nose would be so bent out of shape she'd be able to fart up her own nostrils (sorry, under influence of Caitlin Moran on whatever the R4 comedy on at the mo is, and her 'bummy' truffles)

Somethingyesterday · 16/07/2013 19:09

Who exactly would do the "educating"?

Kiriwawa · 16/07/2013 19:17

Kenton is definitely going to propose. I reckon he's going to do it when he's doing the compering at the Highland Games at the weekend. I wonder if that means they'll wheel Kathy back in for some whinging to Pat?

GrimmaTheNome · 16/07/2013 19:17

Nic, presumably.

Actually, scrap that part - Hellin is the most likely to HE. Nic's prodigy will get bursaries and academic scholarships leading to her ultimate Nobel prize .... there's no point doing this by halves Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 16/07/2013 19:19

I'd forgotten about Kathy. Haven't heard from her for ages.

Somethingyesterday · 16/07/2013 19:26

And another thing, while I'm here, why on earth can they not even provide a "Doctor" character?

Panzee You know how it works. Give it ten years; Pat and Tony disappear over the Amazon on their first retirement jaunt; Sausage, Cheese and the incredible Henry gather for the reading of the will; the door slams open, a hooded figure.... "I am Rich and everything is mine!" Smile

GrimmaTheNome · 16/07/2013 19:46

Yes... there hasn't been a doctor for a while. Well, when they realise that every village ought to have one, please will they remember that its about time they had a female GP - I think they've all been male so far which is statistically abnormal nowadays.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2013 09:04

The story of our DS would make great TA material he is G&T was HE (cos no school could keep him even weirdo private ones Grin) had a tutor in his early teens, was a total auto didact took no exams (sorry he's done some courses in music and yoga teaching for LOs) became multi faith \muslim, now is a musician; been discovered busking bongos in Leicester Square and that is all true (sorry forgot to mention the 2 DCs he's got; one when he was 17 from a besotted much older woman!! without marrying either mum!)

You couldn't make it up Grin!!!

Somethingyesterday · 17/07/2013 09:11

ppea Well that's Henry's future sorted out. The SWs can take a day off. Smile

But Helen deciding to H.E. sounds a very viable, natural storyline. I do hope they're reading....

TheOriginalSteamingNit · 17/07/2013 09:18

I can totally see Hellin H.E'ing...

Education does come up every now and again - with Freddie and Lily, and also, way back, Phil wanted Pip to get a chorister-ship (I think) to The Cathedral School, but she didn't want to and went to Borchester Green instead, which Jill was happy about as a proponent of comprehensive education (I'm horrified how much I remember, and how far back....). So it's not hard to imagine the whole biz coming up again for Henry. Don't think Nic would, and I'm sure Willyerm wouldn't like it if she did.

LondonMother · 17/07/2013 10:20

Re doctors - actually, this is quite realistic. When the murderous Dr Locke left, the Ambridge surgery closed down and all the villagers were re-allocated to practices in Borchester and Hollerton Junction. One-doctor practices are either not allowed now, or very strongly discouraged.

Somethingyesterday · 17/07/2013 11:04

Yes..... But they could still "link in" a practice somewhere. Surgeries are such a nexus of activity; what happens there affects so many stories. There's no reason why they couldn't focus on a female doctor who looks after some Ambridge residents. At the moment we're only hearing, through Alastair, about animal health...

And there are so many old people in Ambridge. Surely someone would have a nurse visiting them? (Amy's nursing is mostly irrelevant...) Or a Health Visitor for the babies. It's odd - there's very little acknowledgement of everyday infirmities; every Ambridge sickness is a major crisis.

GrimmaTheNome · 17/07/2013 11:10

Yes - its realistic that Ambridge wouldn't have its own GP practice but you'd have thought there would be at least one living in a nice village.

Gigondas · 17/07/2013 11:14

Wasn't the last Gp story the one involving shula and usha love triangle.

I do hope Kenton pops the question soon as the Kenton is sensitive hints are boring.

And the longer cathy stays out the story line the better.

ppeatfruit · 17/07/2013 13:23

Agree about Cathy Gigondas and for a teacher can you tell I was one Grin (who should know the true state of most schools) she's painfully pro schooling nearly to the point of driving Jamie away from home IIRC

PseudoBadger · 17/07/2013 13:25

Amy runs that hospital single-handed don't forget Something - she'd never have time to dabble in a spot of GPing too :o

Kiriwawa · 17/07/2013 14:18

Is that little bit of 'amusing' stereotyping by Rob (gay men listen to Sondheim, not the White Stripes) supposed to show us that Helen can forgive him anything? Hmm
