Why is Lillian allowing this to happen?

FFS Lil, he's just a bit on the side. If he pisses you off just bin him. Don't start sounding so downtrodden.

Fallon is the daughter of Jolene & Wayne who both get by mostly on their charm. Fallon's talents are singing and er... Why did anyone expect anything great of Fallon?

Emma failed most her GCSEs (she was consoled by Shula at the time). Only Emma didn't inherit The Stables and she chose handsome unreliable Ed over reliable minted Will.

Brenda was the prodigy, does no one remember? She's the one with an NVQ in bitching (I lurve her for it, honest!)

Kirsty hanging pointlessly around doesn't fit, though, I'll grant that.

It's not like any of the blokes are true high achievers, either. Brine with his empire building, maybe.

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2013 11:07

Brenda does has have qualifications though doesn't she? As you say grimma she'll be gone soon; I'm not sure why it's taken her sooo long to piss off Pheebs and Abby !!

BuiltForComfort · 01/07/2013 11:30

Loving this thread, have been lurking for ages. But compelled to comment re Brenda - she had a chance to escape to the bright lights of er Leicester was it? Or Birmingham. But it was just too difficult to commute and not to be at home servicing the whims of the sausage King and of course the Amside job was supposed to be an amazing opportunity (as opposed to the graduate marketing job in a company not run by an ex-con and a borderline alcoholic). It was so utterly unrealistic that she would have given up and stayed in Ambridge. Surely now is the time for the daughter of a one-eyed milkman to move on to greater things - if not then it looks like another bit of proof for your theory Somethingyesterday.

And did I miss something re the sale of cows before they knew about lonely cow's outcome? Why would they sell them before they got the result?

ragged · 01/07/2013 11:31

Elizabeth, there you go, someone Xenia would wholeheartedly approve of.

ragged · 01/07/2013 11:31

Xenia would probably like Liz even better if Liz had been the one to push Nigel off the roof.

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 11:34

ppea Brenda will be gone soon. D'you think?

Brenda urgently needs a better job and new accommodation.

Grey Gables urgently needs a new Manager. And has lots of room....

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2013 11:39

Built there was a conversation about the lonely cow; she's very much 'borderline' and probably hasn't got TB so they decided to go ahead with the sale of the others ( i shed a tear over that) I don't reckon they'd have done it in RL.

LilacBreastedRoller · 01/07/2013 11:50

I think Lonely Cow will be fine, and stay on at the farm to facilitate occasional melancholic monologues for Tony and Pat, something in the style of Yorick's skull.

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 11:56

Grimma Don't you remember - Brenda wasn't even allowed (for the avoidance of doubt I mean allowed by the SWs...) to complete her degree at the faraway "uni" she started at. They made her come home after her mother died, and finish her degree locally. (I've always felt she was better off, and happier, working at Borchester Radio...)

Ragged Elizabeth is the daughter of a fantastically successful farmer....

I'm off to look up all possible meanings of "schematics".

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2013 12:00

What about Linda? (as i typed that i thought of the the opportunities for lin's sniffiness at being upstaged by Bren!) so THAT's why she hasn't been removed!

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 12:06

Sorry - I was also strongly agreeing with Built regarding Brenda.

OliviaYouCannotBSeriousMumsnet · 01/07/2013 12:27

@Somethingyesterday

. They made her come home after her mother died, and finish her degree locally.

This was when I first started listening to the Archers -not long after I was married, I got a text from my MIL htat just said "Why is Betty in hospital?" and I coulnd't work out which of my new random relatives it was Grin

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 12:52

Olivia Ah! Interesting to know how long people have been listening.

Do you want a detailed exposition on the preceding thirty years? Smile

Ponders · 01/07/2013 12:52

Olivia Grin

(the Archers is real...there is no cast...)

(does your MIL still listen? if so what does she think of its recent plots?)

OliviaYouCannotBSeriousMumsnet · 01/07/2013 13:31

MIL is a bit behind I think - my dad always used to listen but I never did when I was younger. Not sure if he does any more.
I will have to ask her thoughts on the current plots

@Somethingyesterday

Do you want a detailed exposition on the preceding thirty years? Smile

Yes please.
We might need a new thread for that though, non?!?

Kiriwawa · 01/07/2013 13:33

Brenda is definitely being set up for leaving Ambridge. The shoehorned in misery at the christening party about bumping into Tom every five minutes combined with being Lilian's whipping girl and forcing PheebsnAbby share a room means she's got a one way ticket to Birmingham. Or perhaps London? Although the only characters who ever go to London are horrible (James and Leonie) so perhaps Brum is more likely.

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 13:37

Nooo, I think Bren is off to Grey Gables. Christine is going to have a breakdown, and we've just heard it needs MARKETING. Ta-da!

But what are Pusscat and Tiger going to do without her?

Kiriwawa · 01/07/2013 13:45

Caroline you mean? Surely not Christine, cresting on the wave of her divinely simple floral arrangement (thank god that storyline's over, I can't stand the 'comedy' ones) :o

Oh yes, you could be right. Perhaps she could live in and have an affair with a guest or something

OhTiger · 01/07/2013 13:54

haha, Caroline, yes Smile.

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2013 14:02

Oh yes kiriwawa and the forced laughter after jazzer used the pretend milk paint for his tea (as if) FGS was abysmal even for TA Sad

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 14:14

Olivia

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_characters_in_The_Archers

is pretty thorough, though lacking my invaluable insight of course. (And I'm only stealing a link I saw here first...)

I love the idea of someone being gifted an abiding love of The Archers as a wedding present!

By the way Lilac - Grin Exactly what I was thinking - with less wit!

Kiriwawa · 01/07/2013 14:26

Urgh yes, pp. And I had to the misfortune to hear that episode twice :(

ppeatfruit · 01/07/2013 14:47

Shock you poor thing kiri Grin

GrimmaTheNome · 01/07/2013 15:36

I must have been listening to TA on and off for at least 30 years - and before that it sometimes used to be on at teatime. It also served as an alarm clock - dad worked 5 mins from home, used to nip home for a quick lunch and then get 15 mins nap - he'd leave the radio on low and the TA tune coming on (it was more like 1:30 or 1:45), would wake him up in time to get back Grin

So, the current Clarrie sounds normal to me and I miss Walter and Nelson Gabriel. And Mrs Antrobus.

Somethingyesterday · 01/07/2013 16:00

Walter and Nelson were THE BEST. But most of all I miss Tom Forest introducing the Omnibus on Sunday mornings. That was my childhood....
