My house sold within 2 weeks of it going on the market

Kinda unexpected, the speed! We've got a house to buy and things seem (touch wood) to be going through.

DH is self employed though and I'm not working, so we've had to get a self-cert mortgage (eek at repayments). Survey was done on Friday and is fine, so we are just waiting for the "ok" from mortgage co now.

My Solicitor hasn't sent the searches off yet () despite being instructd a month ago so I put a rocket up his arse this morning.

My buyer wants to complete 11th Dec, so I'm on pins, its only 6 weeks away! Will be a chaotic Christmas thats for sure...me, DH, 10yo DD, 5yo DS1, 1yo BabyG, the hamster and 3 million packing boxes

I am so excited about NY!!! Going with a friend. She has never been and she has 3 DCs so is really looking forward to the child-free time. She promises me she won't sleep all the time. I have told her to sleep as much as she likes - I will be in Macy's!

Not surprised you are not happy. I would be livid.

MamaG · 17/11/2009 09:19

again

We've budgeted for extra money when we move, so we cna buy a new car and have a sun room built: DH said last night "we could go to NY for a weekend you know, with some of hte dosh..." but he's got his sensible head on again now

When we bought our first ever house way back when, we were about to buy curtains for a HUGE bay window when we got a fax from some friend in Bangkok (where we used to live) asking us to come back for the St Andrew's Ball. DH said it's that or the curtains. We went to Bangkok! Finally ended up putting curtains up the day before we moved back overseas!

We provisionally booked ours about 3 weeks before we moved - last Fri (13 Nov) they packed up our house & took all our stuff into storage & we are now in rented until 30 Nov when they will move us into our new house. Good luck hun

MamaG · 23/11/2009 09:44

Thats great news HHNM.

DH is finishing work 2 weeks before moving day, so we'll pack up togetehr. I'm trying to get stuff sorted before then, so I have a week! Just chucking/charity shop/freecycle etc

Great news HHNM and dilemma on your survey.

Getting our mortgage was so incredibly tedious. The broker was crap, never ever use Alexander Hall anyone. The documents got lost. They had to go from us to the broker in London then to the bank in London, then to the bank in Hong Kong and then back again.

They wouldn't accept copies of our passports Buda that had been certified by a british Postmistress. But would accept them having been stamped, and that was literally what it was, by a Kenyan lawyer.

We are still waiting for our title deeds.... we are however planning to move out by Jan 15th. Another alternative is to release some of the funds to the vendor now, move in, and give him the rest when the deeds come back. Dh is not so certain......

Themasterandmargaritas · 24/11/2009 16:37

Just out of curiosity, how much roughly would it cost in the UK to pack and move a large-ish 3 bedroom house say from one side of a village to another?

MamaG · 25/11/2009 08:27

I'm paying £530 inc VAT for that size house but going 80 miles

A MNer posted on fb that she'd been quoted over £1.5K

Hi all! I am back from NY. It was FAB. Am shattered.

Themasterandmargaritas - that sounds about right! I am still not convinced about the Hungarian notarised copies but we shall see!

HHNM - yay! All sounds great. Good luck with the moving!

We don't need to worry about moving yet as it won't be till summer 2011. Seems like ages away. We already know who will we use though as some friends of ours run a moving/relocation company. And ours will be much more than your MamaG!

I have just emailed the solicitors to see if they got the package I sent. I was supposed to post it from Heathrow on Thursday and completely forgot. Only realised as we were sitting in Chez Gerrard in Terminal 3 with a glass of champage! Asked the waitress was there a post box nearby and she offered to post it for me (I had stamps on already). I thanked her profusely and gave her a big tip but am now worried she will have either forgotten or just binned it. DH will not be impressed if it didn't get there.

MamaG · 25/11/2009 09:08

eek buda hope they got it! Sure she will have posted it.

Glad you had fun in NY just the ticket to take your mind of moving-stress I would have thought!

We have under 3 weeks to go DH finishing work on Friday and then we will pack up the house. I'm spending this week sorting stuff out so we only take teh stuff we want. Tis v boring!

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 25/11/2009 09:59

£1.5K surely not. They are quoting me equivalent of £450 so that's not too bad.

Fingers crossed Buda that she sent it.

Buda · 25/11/2009 10:49

She sent it! They got it. Phew!

Good luck with the sorting MamaG. Very boring but you will be so glad when you are in your new house and you don't have to find places to put stuff you know you don't want. I will be doing that too. Without DH's input. If I let him help we won't get rid of anything!

MamaG · 25/11/2009 11:05

oh good! Glad she sent it.

OP posts:
Themasterandmargaritas · 27/11/2009 10:31

Phew!

Our vendor is really putting the screws on us, by various means, to take possession of the house which is sitting empty just now. The thing is, if we take the keys, we admit to ownership and then he gets to have his money and we still don't have the formal land registry documents.....

So, don't complain about the process in the UK, it's not a patch on what goes on here!

How is the decluttering MamaG? I have sorted and binned and am having a sale on Thursday. I'm sad to be selling a pushchair that my dad bought for us when dd was 6 months old, she's now 8.

MamaG · 28/11/2009 07:53

God it sounds like a nightmare! Don't take the keys!

Decluttering was good, I was ruthless and now have lots less to pack. DH finished work yesterday so he's now on hand to get under my feet and pack

We're takign teh children to buy their new school uniforms and to see the house for teh first time today - wish us luck! We need to make a final decision as to who is having which bedroom today as well
