They want an extra 77K on top of the 100K cheque the owners have already given him?? He does this every week. It's

I don;t think this one's that nice. I do like it inside now but if I had £177k I'd have moved

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 30/07/2009 20:53

It's those bloody bi-folding doors again!

I like guests, would I want them to have an en-suite shower room when they come to stay? Nope, it isn't a bloody hotel, I'd never get rid of them.

tattycoram · 30/07/2009 20:53

I hate that hotel boutique look. Horrid

MollieO · 30/07/2009 20:53

Cheap looking wardrobes.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 30/07/2009 20:54

I bet that wardrobe cost them 10k! I'd have gone to the charity shop.

MummyElk · 30/07/2009 20:54

ikea bloody wardrobes!!

MollieO · 30/07/2009 20:55

I can't see where they've spent the money. He said at the beginning that it was because they had 5 steels. I had 3 and my groundfloor extension only cost £30,000 including loads of other work on the house.

LynetteScavo · 30/07/2009 20:56

Every week I think theyv'e been ripped off by George.

MollieO · 30/07/2009 20:56

Roof tiles are cheap and don't match existing. Ugh.

HerHonesty · 30/07/2009 20:56

hes got shares in the bifold company i reckon. there was one he did where that was the only window thingy in the kitchen, so it must have been freezing in winter when you just wanted to let a bit of steam out and had to open a whole door...

MummyElk · 30/07/2009 20:56

god that must be her sister with the short hair?!

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 30/07/2009 20:56

I can't see it either. An extension and some wall paper? Hmm.

OP posts:
LynetteScavo · 30/07/2009 20:56

DH reckons it should have cost about £60K

nancy75 · 30/07/2009 20:57

looks like they've been ripped off to me, only a single storey extension, pretty basic bathroom suites and ikea furniture - i would want receipts too!

MollieO · 30/07/2009 20:57

Bearing in mind they already had the kitchen I'd like to see a breakdown of the spend.

MollieO · 30/07/2009 21:00

I reckon the builder must have thought all his birthdays and Christmases had come at once? How can people be so naive? When I was getting my building work done I had quotes ranging from £20,000 to £100,000. It was easy to work out which quotes to dismiss and which to choose.

MummyElk · 30/07/2009 21:00

it's like paying £40 for a studio session for the family and then walking in for the viewing and walking out having spent nearly 4 figures and wondering what just happened there and oh christ we're pregnant again so we're going to have to do it all again hide them behind the sofa

Katz · 30/07/2009 21:00

that did seem a little costly.

We knocked our sep toilet/bathroom into 1 one cost inc new showerbath suite less than 3K

Small ex to back inc fitting new kitchen and downstairs loo £12.5K really can't see how that cost that much.

plus can't believe that he painted all that beautiful wood white.

MammyT · 30/07/2009 21:10

"He put another staircase in but didn't take the slope of the roof into account to had to change it, costing them time and money. I'd be pissed off at this, the houseowner was."

Absolutely agree. The other houses in the area with loft conversions build up the gable so they get the stairs right. But I reckon the real reason he moved the stairs was that he couldn't/wouldn't wait for building consent or hadn't applied in time.

I just can't understand how all these projects cost this much. I'd have been LIVID if I'd been the people in last week's program who spent 130K for an antic conversion basically.

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2009 21:21

Watching this on 4+1, very concerned that he is going to spend so much of this nice family's money. If it is crap they would have been better off moving.

MarshaBrady · 30/07/2009 21:26

And why the hell doesn't he negotiate, he's on the tele plus it's a recession. Shouldn't be hard. Bit wet.

saggyhairyarse · 30/07/2009 22:02

The first series was great but even I am getting a bit suspicious or the money evapourating.

I would be pretty cheesed off with a £60K extension and a load of Ikea tat. I also noticed the roof tiles, wtf is that about???

LynetteScavo · 30/07/2009 22:13

I aplied by email to go on this show. Soooo happy they never got back to me!

msled · 30/07/2009 22:48

Ridiculous amount of money!
Cannot believe he didn't know how to do a bog standard loft conversion. The most basic loft company wouldn't make that mistake, and they'd charge you 40K max with fabulous ensuite.
Most of the work is tidying up and chucking out, which is free.

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 30/07/2009 22:52

It's not as if they needed an entire house full of new furniture either, the sums just don't add up. I would be so angry if this were my house, I imagine channel 4 having a few law suits on their hands over this programme.
