I disagree. She expressed a preference for one type of thing - wallpaper - over another kind of thing - white walls. It was a harmless comment - there's nothing in it to take offence at. At no point did she make a value judgement about people who prefer the latter. If someone thinks she did, that's putting words in her mouth that she didn't say.

To put it another way -
Cat person: 'Cats are great!'
Dog person: 'OMG you've been so rude about me!'

@comeondover

i am really bored with this discussion.

She DID make a judgement about people, she didn't just say she didn't like white walls. If she had said SHE prefers wallpaper that would be different, but she didn't and that's the point!!

Who wants blank white walls when you can have all this beautiful wallpaper?

Oh this thread is making me want to redo my hallway😩

I love some of the wallpapers on here but at £70 a roll for the ones I like my cat will probably do an extra special job of clawing it when chasing a fly or tiniest spider 🙄

@hoxtonbabe most of them
are over £100, some over £400 a roll!

however some are only £20/£30. Keep looking and you'll find an affordable one you love. Check the cheaper ones out with a sample though as sometimes they just too thin & look terrible.

Upinthenightagain · 02/04/2024 10:27

Because of this thread I’ve now got about sixteen samples ordered 😀

SpottyBumPony · 02/04/2024 11:08

I love this thread! I've just gone down a rabbit hole on the ottoline website.

So, controversial buy I wish borders would have a resurgence (mostly to cover my terrible cutting at the top of the walls)

I'm moving soon and going for another viewing. I was already considering wallpapering one room. After this thread, I am definitely going to!!

Brilliantly timed thread 😁

EveryOtherNameTaken · 02/04/2024 11:55

Has anybody tried any of those wall stickers and do they stay on?

I've had a very happy time looking through this thread - didn't think I was a wallpaper person, but you've turned me!

Those of you who use wallpaper a lot, how do you decide whether to have an accent wall or paper the whole room (apart from cost). Feeling inspired!

I’ve only papered a small bathroom with all the walls. My living area is open/broken plan so not suitable for anything except accent walls

I’ve one bedroom with an accent wall and it’s a small double bedroom with not great light. I wanted a dramatic wallpaper which would have been overwhelming if I did every wall. I think either quite large rooms or very small rooms lead to being fully wallpapered especially if they have nice wood details that can be a contrast.

I live in a 1970s bungalow so the rooms aren’t big and I want to make them seem spacious and light so accent walls in general look better. However I am thinking of papering a single bedroom fully for my child. I’ll have to be careful with the pattern though to get something that will grow with them and still be fab

Nevernamedchanged · 02/04/2024 12:54

@JamMakingWannaBe that's my favourite Wallpaper too ;)

I used this type of paper in my office room, every now and again the middle piece starts peeling off and hangs half way down to the shelf that's keeping it up haha It's a royal pain in the behind, I don't know if I didn't prep that part of the wall right, but I wouldn't be comfortable using it on a full or multiple walls. I think I've gone through a full can of adhesive spray.
It's good in theory though!

isitbananatimealready · 02/04/2024 15:55

Well, all I can say is: blimey, wallpaper ain't half gone up in price since the last time I bought some.

hotpotlover · 02/04/2024 16:02

This thread has inspired me and I have discussed with my husband if we should put wallpaper up ( I have never used wallpaper before).

He's dead set against it, because according to him it looks ragged very quickly and is difficult to remove.

Is this true?

Mt61 · 02/04/2024 17:17

Oh glad I came across this post, nervous about the wallpaper I have picked, husband even likes it but without the birds! It’s G & B glasshouse midnight.. bought these grey wardrobes in the sale & don’t want grey paint, it will be too much. Think the different tones in the paper are lovely, birds are slightly brassy coloured which will go with handles. Will it be too much to do every wall? It’s only a small dressing room!

I find wallpaper looks good longer than paint, since paint is a flat colour and shows any grubby bits. I'm currently sitting in a room that was wallpapered over 15 years ago and it still looks good.

It depends if you are papering over a painted wall, we stripped the paper off a painted wall, it brought half the paint off the walls, so we ended up having to re plaster the walls. We will now line the walls & then paper or paint- not going through that again so expensive. Our bedroom wall is paste the wall so I don’t know if it comes off the plaster or not? If it’s papered over plaster it should come off no problem. Go for it! I’ve managed to persuade my DH to decorate with wallpaper 😊

FortunataTagnips · 02/04/2024 18:51

I agree with a pp that wallpaper looks good longer than paint. That’s definitely the case here, where the wallpaper looks pristine after about 8 years but the painted walls - done at the same time - are very scuffed.

Do every wall! It looks so much nicer. And absolutely in a dressing room, where you don't be sitting for hours each day.

I agree. Most of my walls are painted in Little Greene Slaked Lime but in four rooms I have wallpaper. The wallpaper in my dining room has been on for nine years and looks immaculate. The wallpaper in my bedroom has been on for eight years and again looks brand new. The walls were painted two years ago and need redoing.

Hi @SloaneStreetVandalit is Persephone Kallianthi Wallpaper by Harlequin.
I've had a look and it's discontinued now but you'll find it online I'm sure.
