Anyone been offered a council place after being 2nd in queue?

Hi,

we are a band B with our council. We received a section 21 from our landlord as they are selling the property which has run out ages ago so we do need a place asap.

Bid on a place last week was 2nd in queue but unsuccessful.
Bid on two this week also 2nd in queue. Will find out middle of next week if we are successful but I wondered do you always have to the 1st in queue to get offered a property?

No. We were 14th x

I got my place after being 2nd. The 1st place person didn't show up for the viewing and wasn't answering their phone.

I'd look at that the person in #1 could have bid on both and obviously will only get 1. Or if it is different people the next time a similar property becomes available you should be top of the list.

Good luck, 👍. Private renting is so insecure in this country and the combination of less tax relief, covid and changes to tenancy law is seeing a lot of people in your situation. I hope things become more secure in the future for private renters. My housing association property is beautiful and I am so grateful it's mine after years in private rentals.

Yes I see what you mean, it’s hard to know whether it’s the same person or two different people. We would just be grateful for whatever we can get at the moment though 🤞

Rental is awful here at the moment. All private rented you need a guarantor, references and they are charging stupid prices. People are literally struggling to get by because they’re having to pay the crazy prices. We can’t get another private rent as we don’t have a guarantor but will just be super happy with anything the council can offer us even if it’s miles away. We have 3 young children so getting a roof over our heads asap is priority 😊

I was 9th and got mine. Apparently someone else had accepted but pulled out just before moving. And some of those above me in the queue had already got places by then. Good luck!

We were 3rd when we got ours

I ended up number 1 and didn't get the property. Results showed up as "skipped". I was told I could appeal the decision but they moved the new tenants in while the appeal was open so they had no intentions of letting me anyway. Very frustrating but apparently being number 1 doesn't mean you are guaranteed to be offered it first. I didn't even get to view it.
