Hi,

we are a band B with our council. We received a section 21 from our landlord as they are selling the property which has run out ages ago so we do need a place asap.

Bid on a place last week was 2nd in queue but unsuccessful.
Bid on two this week also 2nd in queue. Will find out middle of next week if we are successful but I wondered do you always have to the 1st in queue to get offered a property?

Don't forget to bid this week just in case.
Hopefully you'll be the one refusing but keep your bids going!

Will do thank you 😊

Does anyone know how soon after bidding ends you usually hear if your successful?

I was 6th and it came as a total shock as I wasn't expecting it. The 1st person refused the property then the other 4 had already found properties, mine was about a month later. You usually hear within the following week - that's our HA policy. Keep bidding until they contact you :) good luck.

I ended up number 1 and didn't get the property. Results showed up as "skipped". I was told I could appeal the decision but they moved the new tenants in while the appeal was open so they had no intentions of letting me anyway. Very frustrating but apparently being number 1 doesn't mean you are guaranteed to be offered it first. I didn't even get to view it.

Similar happened to us, but in our favour Smile We were 3rd, 1st place turned down, 2nd were skipped as they weren't suitable for it (adapted property) so after a few weeks of being miserable thinking we had missed out, we unexpectedly got a phone call asking if we were still interested. I said I would take it without even viewing Grin

I think we heard less than a week later . I'm not sure what happened with the 1st and 2nd bidders.

Ilovepugs2017 · 22/08/2022 13:52

Just checked and still no.2 on one place and gone down to no.3 on the other 😬 still remaining hopeful tho 🤞

That’s not too bad then not too much of a wait. I know it says the properties need work so won’t be ready til mid-late September but I assume they let you know whether you have it before then

Oh wow - nice surprise!

we will keep bidding and hope for the best. One of them is really close to my parents too which would be lovely as my dads health isn’t the best so I can pop and see him more often. I’d genuinely be happy to have either though!

It’s weird because I always kinda assumed whoever was at the top wouldn’t turn it down, but I guess that’s not always the case lol

We were 3rd but two people turned down our house before we were offered it. So fingers crossed you get lucky like we did 😊

I’m 2nd on the Que for council flat, but I was 1st when it went to shortlisting now I’m jumped to second. Do you know why this could be😩 also do you think I still have a chance? x

DoubleGauze · 27/06/2023 08:28

I think in a lot of cases people are put forward for properties that they didn't bid on. I didn't bid for my place but was shortlisted for it anyway , most likely due to my circumstances at the time.

Lougle · 27/06/2023 08:50

We were 3rd but then got the call asking for documents and then offered the place.

Ollybob · 27/06/2023 09:03

2nd is great, you'll be in a property fairly soon I should think, all bidders will be positioned in the list according to need so if you get bumped down it's either a priority case or someone bidding late and they have more points than you,
I'm sure I was quite far up the list when I got this property. I was up the teens so didn't actually think I'd get it,
Be prepared to make a decision and move quickly, I had to choose there and then when viewing!

annersx · 10/10/2023 20:28

what number was everyone when they got your council house? I am band one but coming like 15?

Hurrah!!

Hi I have just put my bid in for a property and I was the first person to apply for the property. I was no1 in the queue. I went back and looked and now I am 6 in the queue. I'm so confused. Does this mean I am not the first to have a choice in this property. Thanks for any advice ❤️

You are 6th so not going to be offered 1st. Unless everyone in front of you turns it down

Being first to bid doesn't make you first in the queue. As the bids come in, they are ordered in priority. If you are 6th in the queue, it's unlikely that this will be your property, but many people start out in queue positions in the 60s so you're doing well and it may not be too long before you get offered somewhere.

It’s not first come first served, it’s done on priority instead.
