Sheffield - where to live please?

We are hoping to move to the Sheffield area in the next 6 months. Any tips/comments on areas? My parents live near the Botanical Gardens, Endcliffe side, so would prefer to be either north or west of the city, poss SW too. Thanks

thank you all so much for your advice, sorry for not posting sooner, pesky work gets in the way! We'll have to wait til DH gets a job sorted which will hopefully be within a couple of months, but will be visiting in feb so may do a tour of estate agents then!

oh if your around the weekend of the 23rd feb that when we're going to the spa.

edam · 10/01/2008 20:14

I think we have, yes, but brain so woolly I had no idea who the other ex-SHS bod was. Yup, PE teacher was Mrs Rankin. Evil old witch. Reduced my little sister to tears.

Girl in my year from Hathersage was called Wendy, does that help? She lives near me atm but is about to move a long, long way away!

inamuckingfuddle · 10/01/2008 20:15

thanks katz, no date yet, but it will be half term week, so poss that w/e, will let you know!

(And I think it has to be someone else who was mean to you, can't imagine Wendy being horrid to someone younger...)

worzella · 10/01/2008 23:38

sheffield half term is 8th Feb till around 18th Feb... so not quite the same as the Spa weekend...

inamuckingfuddle · 11/01/2008 18:47

good time to visit then!

Wendy doesn't ring any bells. It's possible I'm getting confused - I just have a vauge memory of someone who liked being "hard" and she didn;t like a friend of mine - who also tried desperately to be hard and rebellious - persumably they were competition for each other. and for some reason I associated her (the older one) - or maybe one of her friends - with Hathersage. The name Susan rings a bell...

edam · 12/01/2008 16:35

Oh no, Wendy wasn't/isn't 'hard' at all. In fact I don't remember anyone in my year being hard. Maybe I've wiped it all from my brain!

Sorry to hear someone was horrid to you, though.

hatwoman · 12/01/2008 16:37

it was a badge of honour edam. to have come to the notice of reputed hard woman...

edam · 12/01/2008 16:38

what was her name?

hatwoman · 12/01/2008 16:39

hard girl (who may or may not have lived in Hathersage) was definitely Susan. knapton? knapwood?

edam · 12/01/2008 16:40

sorry, you said could be Susan - there was a Suzanne in my year who might fit your description, now I come to think of it. Very rebellious. Think she set off the fire alarm during the O-level maths exam. And dyed her hair pink.

edam · 12/01/2008 16:42

Littlewood, perhaps? Livermoore?

hatwoman · 12/01/2008 16:42

I reckon that'll be the one. I think her best mate lived in Hathersage - Louise?

edam · 12/01/2008 16:42

Don't recall a Louise but there may well have been one!

hatwoman · 12/01/2008 16:43

I was going to say Liversage but surely no-one called Liversage cuold live in Hathersage...

hatwoman · 12/01/2008 16:44

ahh - you mean the L-surname for the Suzanne? yes. maybe you're right

edam · 12/01/2008 16:58

I think I am, some of it is coming back to me now! I didn't know her particularly well, tbh, she wasn't a friend of mine. But I'm surprised to hear she was a bully - AFAIK no-one in my year thought she was hard, just rebellious in an often-irritating way. Can't remember a Louise yet, though.

edam · 12/01/2008 16:58

(You are right about the surname, btw, and I don't think she lived in Hathersage, must have been a friend of hers.)
