I wntd to ask about building plans but not through the solicitor because that costs money.

I dno if I did the right thing?

I knew they didn’t have them because the solicitor said so but I asked anyway. They said the works were done in the 70s so no plans available.

they may lie

Spaghag · 16/04/2022 21:20

People actually say "slid into DMs"? Sounds well.. slimey at best. Fucking creepy at worst.

saveusernamee · 16/04/2022 21:22

@Spaghagif you know what I mean then my communication method worked

Pretty weird. You already knew they didn't have the plans, so why ask? Also, why would asking via the solicitor cost more? Aren't you just paying a flat rate for the whole service?

And yes, saying "slid into their DMs" in this context is creepy - it's the way you'd describe some sleazy stranger chatting you up.

WildOnce · 16/04/2022 21:37

"slid into DMs" I have no idea what this means

saveusernamee · 16/04/2022 21:44

Nah everything with the solicitor costs more.

Like it’s a flat rate for some things but this isn’t isn’t included so I either pay £85/enquiry response or isnta

It means sent a private message I think. Teen speak.

But you said you already know they don't have the plans. So why ask?
Luredbyapomegranate · 16/04/2022 21:53

That is quite unpleasant phrasing OP, it’s like a scene in Harlots Grin

IggysPop · 16/04/2022 22:02

That’s weird. Your solicitor had already confirmed that they didn’t have building plans but you ‘slid into the vendors DMs on insta’ and asked the question again.

I have never liked buyers contacting me directly. All this should all go through estate agents and/or solicitors. Are you a FTB by any chance?

Comedycook · 16/04/2022 22:04

Is this a reverse?

SugarDatesandPistachios · 16/04/2022 22:13

Just no.

Really?

Whenever I’ve bought a property it’s been a flat fee from solicitors, with only searches and reported as EO.

“Sliding into DMs” is a bit grim.

caecilius1 · 16/04/2022 22:20

Ugh...
Sounds very unbusinesslike/unprofessional.

icelollycraving · 16/04/2022 22:28

I think it is not ideal. Unless the property has its own Instagram account (i have seen these), it is not businesslike at all.

ballsdeep · 16/04/2022 22:34

Its the language of love island. They all slid into each others dms.....

mintbiscuit · 16/04/2022 22:38

Am I the only one who thinks the OP tried on the vendors doctor marten boots whilst viewing and posted on instagram?

tealandteal · 16/04/2022 22:59

If you knew the answer why did you need to ask again? Why would you have gone through the solicitor again when they had already answered, regardless of any charges?

SpaceyCake · 16/04/2022 23:14

I don't think it's the done thing I'm afraid. I would be annoyed if my buyer contacted me through social media, and would either ignore or reply to say that all communication has to be done via solicitors. I wouldn't want to mess anything up or say the wrong thing in case it caused issues later on.

MrsTerryPratchett · 16/04/2022 23:16

The OP is clearly 'down with the kids' as she is using their parlance.

Hmm

Not the only one. I thought it was weird thing to do.Grin I'm not really that much clearer having read the thread.

HiCandles · 16/04/2022 23:22

Never heard of any solicitor or conveyancer charging per enquiry Hmm what kind of odd firm are you with? Why not just go with a normal solicitor?
I'd not appreciate this as a vendor.
And why are you telling us this, what's the point of the thread?

BreakfastDinnerTea · 17/04/2022 00:23

Are you the poster who got pissed off with a seller who didn't pass the vibe check for not troubleshooting a marketplace rabbit hutch with her?

Slid into dms I thought meant an unsolicited message to someone you fancy so you can chat to them using a daft excuse as a reason to message.

Teen dd said the only time her friends say "he slid into my dms" is when it's a lad that isn't a friend, asking random stuff in the hope it'll end up in a date like "hi, you're doing a level math right? Can you help me with this question for my course?" Something you'd ask a friend yeah but someone you've never spoke to? Weird.

Seeing as OP said she already knew the plans didn't exist she sounds like the teenage boys "sliding into dms" with fake questions.

If its plans you're after have you looked on your council planning portal? I found my house plans from the 60s that way. Instant download and free.
