Time capsule house, what is this thing in the kitchen?

Does anyone have an idea what that huge steel thing on the right of the kitchen is? Is it an ancient oven or some early form of fridge?

Here is the place tucked away: www.rightmove.co.uk/properties/84010380#/?channel=RES_BUY

Ancient fridge

PriamFarrl · 22/02/2022 20:24

It’s brilliant, that’s what the it is.

I’m guessing oven as I can’t see one.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 22/02/2022 20:24

I think it’s a dishwasher. It’s not that ancient. Or am I old.

HelloKeith · 22/02/2022 20:27

It looks like an autoclave. But I'll say ordinary oven due to the controls above.

nearlyspringyay · 22/02/2022 20:27

What a fab house. It looks immaculate.

UtterlyUnimaginativeUsername · 22/02/2022 20:28

What a gorgeous house! Full of light, and I love most of their furniture (the armchairs all look too narrow for my generously proportioned 21st century backside).

StormBaby · 22/02/2022 20:30

I think it’s a Flaire Frigidaire Wall Oven

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/02/2022 20:30

I don't know what the metal thing is, but that house is an absolute credit to the owners.

Pixiedust1234 · 22/02/2022 20:31

No idea but I love the kitchen!

berksandbeyond · 22/02/2022 20:32

Gosh I am almost sad that it’ll be updated! It’s like a museum

TheNoonBell · 22/02/2022 20:32

Very well maintained and much loved by the look of it.

I also thought oven because of the controls. What's with the controls on the counter to the left of it though? What are they for? Can't see any obvious hob. It looks almost futuristic to me! Lovely size house

CaptainMyCaptain · 22/02/2022 20:32

It's an oven and the kitchen looks quite modern to me. I am old though.

tilder · 22/02/2022 20:33

Love that. Apart from the flat roof.

trulyconfuseddotcom · 22/02/2022 21:07

Wow, love this kitchen! Hope it gets salvaged.

Train567 · 22/02/2022 21:10

I love the glass conservatory sort of room, I'd love to sit there with a book

Aquamarine1029 · 22/02/2022 21:12

I absolutely love this house. Aside from some of the soft furnishings, I wouldn't want to change a thing. It's too special.

comeundone · 22/02/2022 21:37

Think it's an oven too. Having bought a house with a similar vintage kitchen, don't get your hopes up too high that you'll be able to salvage it. The doors and drawers on ours looked ok from a distance but as soon as you put things inside they flaked and dropped bits everywhere . Admittedly ours also had a late 1980s gas cooker which was utter crap in it too. We lived with it for a year and I was so glad to see the back of its flaky carcasses! Good luck.

Davros · 22/02/2022 22:18

They seem to have lots of tiny furniture in big spaces

WhatAWasteOfOranges · 22/02/2022 22:31

Looks like it’s destined to be knocked down and built on from the description

TheYearOfSmallThings · 22/02/2022 22:40

Does anyone know what the thing with dials in the wall over the kettle and toaster is? And what kind of radiators they have (assuming the low dark things are radiators).

I see they have an actual organ in the sitting room.

A580Hojas · 22/02/2022 22:56

My parents bought a brand new house in 1968 and it had that exact same kitchen range in it. I think it was called Hygena. Lovely house ... and some of that gorgeous wooden furniture!

LuluBlakey1 · 22/02/2022 23:25

I think it us a Creda oven and to the left if it is an early dishwasher

LuluBlakey1 · 22/02/2022 23:31

I think it is a built in radio. My granny had something similar built in below a window sill.

There is also a built-in corby trouser press behind a bedroom door 😁

Where is the fridge? And where is the hob?!
