@LimpLettice,
It was our doors, window and lantern roof that caused most delays for us. Everything else hasn't been too bad its just getting the different trades together and coordinated. We have been over a year !!

LimpLettice · 02/02/2022 13:55

Funnily enough, @sluj our builder has said one of the roof lights is severely delayed as well. Must be an industry thing. Our build has progressed so fast we are almost ready for plastering. I'm just hoping they can fit us in to fit the glassware after everything else is done.

I've been extremely calm about living in one room with 1 & 3yo, while DH works in an office filled with storage items, the dust is in everything I eat and all the usual complaints. Today I am not. I am pissed off! If that stupid man had said, oh crikey, that must be hard, let me keep chasing it for you, I would have been appeased. It's your own fault is such a crappy response.

sluj · 02/02/2022 14:10

@LimpLettice, I can't remember if it was the glass or the aluminium which was coming from Germany and they blamed everything on that ! Then our contractor went bust so that didn't help. It does stop everything progressing though and we probably wasted 4 to 5 months on the glass fiasco. Best of luck

LimpLettice · 02/02/2022 14:17

Thanks @sluj. Just had a lovely CS from Appliances Direct, who admittedly were trying to sell me a warranty but were so nice and helpful about a delivery tomorrow which is actually coming early, I feel somewhat cheered.

whataboutbob · 02/02/2022 17:53

That’s good @LimpLettice. I also used appliances direct for a new hob as my preferred Ao.com were out of stock . I was expecting cock ups and delays after reading trust pilot, but they delivered within 24 hours as they said they would. Good thing as the plumber was coming the next day to fit it and re seal the shower.

wonkylegs · 02/02/2022 17:53

@LimpLettice there have been massive issues with supply for glazing inc roof lights industry wide so brace yourself for longer rather than shorter.
There customer services is talking out of there arse, loads of contractors wouldn't measure up for the order until the opening is in place for made to measure glazing to make sure they fit let alone order in advance.

Hello ladies - thanks for your support. Only cried once today whilst they ruined my lovely floor. They're now starting to hack up the floor tiles in the cloakroom 🤦🏼‍♀️

On the plus side my new stair runner and landing carpet got fitted 👏

That’s lovely @PoshWatchShitShoes

LimpLettice · 02/02/2022 18:29

I said that to him, @wonkylegs but in all honesty the bloke was a bit of knob. Literally a bit of sympathy and a promise to chase would've shut me right up. Not what I got. Hmm. I really hope it's not, it seems madness to hold up everything over 2 bits of bloody glazing but I suppose will just have to wait and see.

That's what my mum would call proper swish, @PoshWatchShitShoes. Very nice 😊

@PoshWatchShitShoes I know it's all a nightmare but seriously your house is so beautiful. Just hold on until you can get rid
Of them.

whataboutbob · 02/02/2022 20:13

It’s going to be absolutely lush when it’s finished @PoshWatchShitShoes. Hang in there!

Ribb · 02/02/2022 20:54

@plumstone
Builders for reno and landscaper that built our summerhouse made an absolute mess of the garden in the process so I had the garden 90 % landscaped at the same time. Meant we could enjoy the garden a bit last summer and pretend the house wasn't a building site! I was also worried about waiting for ages after work completed. Still have ongoing work to do but shouldn't cause major mess to garden........famous last words!

Callmejudith · 03/02/2022 09:47

Posh your home is so beautiful

I managed to offload the remaining planks of floor to a friend this morning. Feel like we’re getting our house slowly back. Also had lots of composite decking samples delivered so need to choose. Waiting for a quote for the garden work.

@PoshWatchShitShoes I can see see you are having a total nightmare but it's looking fantastic to the rest of us; you are seeing the minuscule details (understandable as you're paying) that the majority of people won't even notice!

PoshWatchShitShoes · 03/02/2022 13:14

Leaks under new cloakroom floor. Glad they've found the main issue, but still 😭 Apparently there are other leaks too 🤦🏼‍♀️

nomoneytree · 03/02/2022 13:27

@PoshWatchShitShoes Omg. Was he even a plumber?

GardensandGrandDesigns · 03/02/2022 13:51

@PoshWatchShitShoes what an absolute nightmare, can't imagine how stressful that is ☹️

We've been to a glazing showroom today and fallen in love with some beautiful sunflex doors that are bang on budget. Much better than the 19k quoted. They also had this wonderful blind and bug blind integrated in the walls which was 3k but absolutely brilliant.

LimpLettice · 03/02/2022 14:42

Screed in tomorrow. I can't believe we are ready for it. Skimming Monday and Tuesday and hopefully floor levelled by the end of the week. That means we can hopefully get dried out enough to paint a little before the kitchen arrives on 20th. Getting exciting now. The en-suite will have to wait until our remortgage is done in April as we need another couple of K, as will some new carpets and a new sofa, but otherwise we will be done apart from the bastard French doors. Can't bloody wait.

@PoshWatchShitShoes you sound remarkably calm. I'm in awe really. I had such a hissy over the doors yesterday and I'm only really 6 weeks in.

PoshWatchShitShoes · 03/02/2022 18:45

@LimpLettice I'm staying calm by faffing with tidying corners of my house 😂

So for every shit photo, I shall post a pretty one. Currently hanging pictures with the foreman, who is trying to make me happy. Utility room is currently tidy and, therefore, my favourite room!!

Pipes are ready for the plumber in the morning 🙈

This room is amazing! I need a floor plan as your whole house looks lush and so well planned!

What colour are your walls?

sluj · 03/02/2022 19:31

@PoshWatchShitShoes. Looks like a beautiful utility, just stay in there Grin
What colour is on that wall? It's lovely

LimpLettice · 03/02/2022 19:41

Oh that is beautiful. That putty colour is just so calm and wonderful. You have impeccable taste. I have a teeny utility which really will just house washer / dryer / spare freezer with some drying space and probably a cat. I think that would be a very lovely colour for it!

LivingInaBuildingSite · 03/02/2022 22:10

Love seeing the photos.

Been swamped recently with work and sad news of a friend who died suddenly in a car crash. Hard to get your head round the suddenness of it.

The guys have been in in droves recently.
The structural stuff for the downstairs loo and pantry cupboard is going in.
The floors came up for the UFH stuff to be laid.
I’m still totally stressing about whether the pantry cupboard will actually work in practical terms. Have i made the most of the space, and so on.

Have also had to pay the next instalment which meant I had to ask my DBro for the loan we discussed back in December, horrible really.

Fencing and rendering hopefully combining to work together in a couple of weeks. Have to let the 3 sets of neighbours know.

My birthday this weekend so trying to detach from all the stress and just drink lots lol 🥂

Quebeccles · 04/02/2022 15:50

Posh your photos (of the finished bits, obvs) look beautiful.

I'm having a major crisis of belief. We're nowhere near doing anything (it's too complicated to explain really so I won't bore anyone with a backstory) but I'm right at the very start of things and have been trying to notionally sound out a couple of builders.

One - after ignoring a message to his website and a phone message, but I rang again and caught him unawares I think - said he wouldn't be able to do anything at all for the rest of this year because he was so booked up. Another has just totally ignored my message. A third - who I do at least know a bit, because he did some very good work on a friend's property - hasn't answered several phone calls and two texts, but has twice promised to ring me back. He hasn't.

I'm just quietly despairing really....Combined with the horror stories I read here and elsewhere about the impossibility of getting people to do anything. If I can't even get any builders to speak to me, what chance do I stand of getting them to do any actual work?

I know I'm catastrophising but there are moments when I can't actually believe it's possible to do this Sad talk sense to me, someone...
