Moving to Nottingham

We are moving to Nottingham from SE London and have been looking to buy. Buying in ie Arnold, Gedling, Calverton etc has not been easy. We see a house we like and next agent telling us someone has offered more.

We don't want a village, we didn't mind Calverton because the house we found was very out of the village 12 mins drive to Arnold.

We decided to look out and found Mansfield. Am a nurse and and DH works in construction. We have 9 and 1 year old. The schools review i have been reading online has been requires improvement.

Please help is Mansfield a good place to live?

Thanks.

Sorry @Edderkop, missed FTBs totally and good point. Beeston has a great mix and a good vibe as well as being well connected.

@RedPlumbob I wouldn’t call Beeston very white or middle class tbh. Maybe the Bramcote end…

And yeah, fair enough. Mansfield only really has a good swimming pool!

@Alexahelp I love living in Lenton, there are a few families on the Heron drive area. But it is mainly students and hospital staff. Lenton doesn't deserve its reputation.

@Samosably That swimming pool is great to be fair!

I have friends with kids at 3 of the Beeston schools and they are a sea of white faces, the schools in Beeston Rylands aren’t, though. But people avoid them because they’re not as good as the others (they are, it’s just cos they’re in the council estate!)

@CWTJ I live in Nottingham and I work in Derby 2/3 times per week and work from home the rest. I live in Mapperly and it takes about 35 minutes into Derby, usually longer to get home though at 5ish.

The schools are good, the area is diverse and has a lot going off regularly down the road at Sneinton Market, the houses are lovely and there's some lovely shops/bars/restaurants on Mapperly top. House prices have gone mental though.

Carlton, Thorneywood and Gedling are close by also.

Thanks, @DaimDillyDoo that's really helpful to know- thought the journey time from that side of Notts would be longer.

Bramcote, Bramcote Hills and Wollaton are very multi-cultural these days.
