Ordered our new chevron floor and loved it, the pictures online it all blended together and looked somewhat like a real wood floor and I've been so excited but seeing it fitted all I can is see the joins. You can so clearly see the tiles. It looks awful, doesn't it?

What's wrong with it? Looks perfectly fine to me!

FamilyOfAliens · 14/02/2021 00:14

I genuinely cannot believe you’re going to rip up a brand new floor in the whole of your downstairs area and bin it for something that looks a bit better.

What a shockingly wasteful thing to do.

PCar20 · 14/02/2021 07:07

Also yes agree with the pp saying they’ve fitted it incorrectly. All of your tiles are facing the same wag which isn’t right

RuggeryBuggery · 14/02/2021 10:31

I think you’re going to need to sit down when you get the karndean quote 😂
I think it’s the most expensive type to get and to lay

Please take some time to think about it!
If you don’t get anywhere with the fitters maybe just consider living with it and seeing how it goes?
I think I’d struggle to live with the cost and environmental impact of replacing it straight away.

NewHouseNewMe · 14/02/2021 10:39

Amtico is even more expensive than Karndean @RuggeryBuggery
If you go with Karndean, be careful who you go with. We used an authorised salesman whose fitters completely screwed up on a number of fronts. We found that we didn't have a claim against the company or sales guy, just the fitters who had long since disappeared.

avocadospringseternal · 14/02/2021 10:48

I think part of the problem is that it isn't aligned properly with the door frame - it's been started from the wall and then stacked out which really emphasises to the eye that it's just tiles.

If it had been aligned to the door first, working out from there and then used trimmed pieces along the wall it would have looked more natural instead. That's what's been done in the other photos you posted, op, and it creates the illusion of it being authentic running up to the edges of the room. (And does not have the jarring effect of being misaligned with the room).

Plus the square of poor colour alignment.

You'll have the same problem with replacement flooring if the alignment is wrong. It will always look off.

Who laid this one? Because I wouldn't use them again especially if you've decided to replace!

RuggeryBuggery · 14/02/2021 11:02

Yes @NewHouseNewMe I think you’re right actually!
I’m not sure about with amtico but I meant that within Karndean, the parquet is their top range and very high fitting costs because of how elaborate the pattern is.

PegasusReturns · 14/02/2021 11:16

It’s not the same as having a real wood parquet floor but I’m you didn’t pay real wood parquet floor prices.

Shenadoah · 14/02/2021 15:48

I can't see how putting chevrons into squares was ever going to work as a concept, but maybe the manufacturers know something I don't and the fitters did actually mess up in some way? So, as a first step, I would follow up with whoever sold you the floor. If they say that what you have got is the best that can be achieved with this product, then at least you will know where you stand and can move on in whatever way you feel best. You have my sympathy!

PurplePansy05 · 18/02/2021 13:57

We were between Karndean and Amtico for the new house too, eventually going with Amtico. Have a good look online OP and get more samples for comparison.

FlippinEll · 24/02/2021 22:02

Karndean was finished being fitted this morning. The laminate wasn't wasted the planks that survived have gone to my mums. Lots happier, thanks to those who suggested. We went for the Parquet Knight tile laid herringbone and it's stunning and wasn't as dear as I expected!

Looks great! Glad it's worked out ok.

friendlycat · 24/02/2021 23:15

Much much better. It would have just annoyed you. It did look a cheap impersonation. I would have had to change it as well.
Glad you have found a much better product that works for you.

confusedbeyond · 24/02/2021 23:31

Wow, what a difference. It looks great, you can relax and enjoy your home now. Smile

SylviaPlath1984 · 24/02/2021 23:33

Yay!!!! Looks fabulous.

IGNORE the ones saying it's wasteful and you should have lived with it, I know what it's like to put your heart and soul into a home and want it to be perfect x

friendlycat · 24/02/2021 23:39

Sometimes it really is worth correcting a mistake as it just niggles away. I had handmade curtains made for a large bay window and another window in the same room. Utterly hate them even though they are very well made, heavy and good material. They are on the list to be changed.

PurplePansy05 · 25/02/2021 07:45

Much better, OP. Good decision and well done for recycling your previous flooring.

renovationfatigue · 25/02/2021 07:46

Looks gorgeous. Is that lime washed oak? We couldn't choose between that and pale limed oak and went for pale limed oak - now I'm regretting it!

FlippinEll · 25/02/2021 07:56

Thanks all! If it was just one room maybe I'd of tried to stomach it but it was throughout the whole downstairs and my heart just sunk whenever I saw it. My new floor makes me happy everytime I look at it Smile

It is lime washed oak. Dh wanted pale limed oak as there was less colour variation between the different planks, it's not a bad choice at all!

I talked him around as we have warm oak internal doors and cool kitchen units so the different tones in the lime washed oak help pull it all together. He agrees now it's fitted thankfully!

It’s beautiful. We have Karndean in our bathroom and it’s looks as good today as when it was laid 17 years ago.
