Oh god, does this look crap?

Ordered our new chevron floor and loved it, the pictures online it all blended together and looked somewhat like a real wood floor and I've been so excited but seeing it fitted all I can is see the joins. You can so clearly see the tiles. It looks awful, doesn't it?

I’d be disappointed too :( has it been laid incorrectly? Are there certain tiles that are supposed to be laid in a certain way to avoid that look? There are two tiles in the foreground that look perfect! Anything about pattern repeats on the packaging?

Neenan · 12/02/2021 19:22

I get you, it’s not the herringbone it’s the square tile joints you can see.

Disfordarkchocolate · 12/02/2021 19:35

It would drive me absolutely nuts. Its the sort of thing I can't cope with. I know I am odd. In someone else's house it wouldn't bother me at all.

Not odd at all. It would annoy me as well. Not so much if it was in someone elses house as I wouldn't have to live with it, but in my own i'd have to change it.
BrassyLocks · 12/02/2021 19:39

To the posters showing pictures of their herringbone parquet, that's not what the OP has. She has chevrons. The point is that when you zoom in you see they are square tiles rather than individual planks of parquet.

I think it has been laid correctly, it's just the way it is. It looks nice, if not quite what you wanted. Try it out for a couple of years then change it if you really hate it.

TwoLeftSocksWithHoles · 12/02/2021 19:39

I agree, the manufacturers should not have not cut the tiles but in chevrons.
We had floor tiles that are supposed to look like water in a swimming pool and the tiles are cut randomly. The chap in the shop said once they're laid you won't notice the joins... I do... Sad

FlippinEll · 12/02/2021 19:41

Photo nabbed offline but why does it look so different here? Is it lighting or has this been fitted differently?

And here!! Exact same floor. Now I've seen them on mine I can still see the joins but they are far less obvious

Patches of your floor look as good as the example you attached. Other patches look as though the tiles haven't been matched properly. I'd contact the people who put it in and ask them to re-do the tiles that haven't been matched properly.
confusedbeyond · 12/02/2021 19:45

I think they should have been laid with staggered joints so it's not in squares if you know what I mean!

Candleabra · 12/02/2021 19:46

It took me ages to see what you mean. A bit like one of those optical illusions.
I do see it now. Some look ok though, like the photo online. Maybe there were specific instructions for pattern repeats?

Shrivelled · 12/02/2021 19:49

There’s only so much that can be achieved with plastic squares that are trying to look like wood. It’s never going to look like an engineered wood floor if that’s what you were expecting.

gettingusedtothelimelight · 12/02/2021 19:53

I can't see any horizontal joins on the examples but you definitely can on yours.

ApolloandDaphne · 12/02/2021 20:02

The online photo and your photo look exactly the same to me. It looks very nice.

it does look obviously like tiles but i dont think its awful

Honeyroar · 12/02/2021 20:29

@littlepattilou is that a real parquet floor?

I don’t think it looks bad at all. Tiles or Lino are always going to look a little different to a real parquet floor.

FlippinEll · 12/02/2021 20:48

I hope one day to save up for a proper parquet floor but I wanted something similar for the time being, I wasn't expecting it to be exactly what I want for only £23 p m² but I was expecting something like the previous two photos I showed, and not the first.

I'm not sure how I feel. Dh just doesn't get it and says it looks lovely but it's driving me mad.

NoParticularPattern · 12/02/2021 20:51

It doesn’t look horrible but I know exactly what you mean and think it’s down to the fitting of it. Whoever has done it should have gone to more effort to match up the next tile so that it didn’t make the joins so visible. Parts of your floor look like the photos you’ve shared of others and of the photos on the quickstep website. Other parts look like they’ve been running out of it and just put down what they had so as not to waste any/cost more.

Gubanc · 12/02/2021 20:54
@FlippinEll YANBU. I don't think it looks 'right' either. I also would not be happy.

As a pp said, I think it should look like this........
I don't think those tiles were ever supposed to look like this. Your is a different pattern.
OPs tiles were meant to look like 'Hungarian herringbone', yours is the traditional herringbone.

Graffitiqueen · 12/02/2021 20:56

There's too much variation between the tiles. It's like they're from different batches maybe?

It doesn't look awful as such but I think it would bug me too.

2021ishere2021 · 12/02/2021 21:11

I think it is nice. How does it feel underfoot?

NewHouseNewMe · 12/02/2021 21:55

I suspect it's different batches as a PP said. I would contact the supplier and inquire about that.

DE8ORAH · 12/02/2021 22:10

I wondered if it had been laid correctly but in fact it looks the same on the manufacturers website

www.quick-step.co.uk/en-gb/laminate/impressive-patterns/ipa4164_chevron-oak-taupe

Oversize · 12/02/2021 22:15

Yup it would draw my eye too. I think I'd get them to come back and lay it in the pattern that's on the last pic in the link just above. You'll probably have to pay them to do that.
