Any one care to share some pics of their new kitchens? I'm about to upgrade my kitchen and I'm at loss as to what kind of kitchen I would like. Painted vs contemporary, inset vs regular. I'm all pinterested out too.

@Jelly4444 @RedStreetMonument thanks - the wall paper/mural is from a company called Wallsauce. I wanted something different and I must say, I love it!
@CakesForTea I love your pendant lights. Where did you get them? I'd found similar on brand alley of all places but didn't get around to buying them before they were out of stock.
Thank you, they’re from Tala, we got them in the sale at Heal’s but think they have them in John Lewis too
@CakesForTea I love the layout of your kitchen.

Do you know how big your kitchen is? Just wondering whether I have sufficient space to do something similar.

Also, this might be a silly question but what would you call your island? Just wondering how to google it.
Thank you!
The extension is 5 meters x 10 meters but the kitchen is only in one end of it so it’s about 5meters by approximately 4 meters, if that makes sense.

I think it’s an L shaped island so we have the hob on one side and seating on the other

You can spend a ridiculous amount on kitchens and, to be honest, you get very little from it.

The reality is that the carcasses and mechanisms are pretty much generic and the designer kitchen suppliers buy them in from the same type of places as IKEA.

So, unless you really care about bragging rights and 30-50k+ is loose change, I would advise you to buy a mid price kitchen, get good advice on what works in your space, and pay for really good quality fitting. This will make all the difference.

@Jelly4444

Oh! Your kitchen is gorgeous *@CakesForTea*

Where did you get it?

Thank you, I love it. Especially after having nothing more than a kettle and microwave for 6 months.

It’s from purple kitchens, they were fantastic I’d definitely recommend them

That's lovely, really like the colour. What size is the whole space? It looks very similar to our potential kitchen (6mx6m).
AltheaVestr1t · 08/08/2020 09:29

@Roowig2020 lovely! Beautiful island. I would also like to know the size of the room please!

Roowig2020 · 08/08/2020 09:29

Yes, it's 6x6

oh, interesting. What size is your island? It looks bigger than I thought I'd get away with.
mummyh2016 · 08/08/2020 09:33

This is ours, was done approx 18 months ago. Excuse the mess!

@StrikesMatches

It is 2300vm x 900cm . I think it's perfect in the room. Plenty of Space to move around it

Badgerling · 08/08/2020 09:51

@NavyKitchen Wow! Do you mind if I ask where you got your table from? I’ve been looking for one similar for ages!

Frightenedbunny · 08/08/2020 10:14

Here’s mine. Not quite finished but we love it!

NavyKitchen · 08/08/2020 11:03

@Badgerling it's from Next, it wasn't new, it's about 4 years old but I think they still have them, or similar. It was amazing how many people thought it was new though, even though they'd seen it in our old kitchen many times!

101namesforme · 08/08/2020 16:49

@Frightenedbunny that is lovely too! That shape of peninsular is what I think we want, not quite enough room for an island and I think that shape would encourage people to sit down rather than a straight line Of seats. Do you find that to be the case?

I am really torn between white units and a dark worktop or coloured units and a white work surface. Worktop would be granite or quartz I think (currently have laminate and want to upgrade). Does Anyone have any regrets about either?

TheFnozwhowasmirage · 08/08/2020 21:50

This is mine,IKEA handle less. All drawers no cupboards.( House was just finished being built before lockdown so that's why it looks bare.
I had the biggest island I could fit in and an induction hob with the integrated extractor. The house has an integral ventilation system so we didn't need an extractor over the job. We had Ikea's contractor fit it and he was excellent.

@Landlubber2019 thank you. Our kitchen is on 1st floor as our house is on a sloping plot

This is my kitchen which we did a couple of years ago, I love it and will miss it dearly when we move. We choose a beautiful piece of granite for the island and cooker end of the kitchen. It wasn’t big enough to do the utility end of the kitchen so we chose a contrasting oak work surface. I love it but would never ever have one in an area that is going to get wet at all! The thing I love most though is the Franke boiling water tap, that will definitely be coming with us!
