We have lovely neighbours - I hope they stay that way.... for example there was an attempted break-in 2 doors down a couple of days ago. DH and N agreed that if they came back, the large N would sit on him whilst DH 'introduced the burgular's head to the pavement' 😂. Neighbourly Co-operation at its finest

avocuddl · 19/09/2019 09:07

@northernruth glad to hear I'm not the only one who's neighbours are not happy. One side completely blanked me yesterday when I said hello 😳 not a nice feeling!

bacchahantes · 19/09/2019 09:21

Hi there

Can someone link to the extension hints and tips thread. I’ve looked and can’t find it.... please?

@avocuddl thank you!

avocuddl · 19/09/2019 13:10

Oh god having a mare with the neighbours today!! What's the mantra again??? And pass the gin! Gin

soakedat3 · 19/09/2019 14:12

I don't get these neighbours! Do they never need/want to do work on their own houses??!

Ours have thankfully been fine but then all our trades have been using the back gate access road. I pick up anything blown out of skip if it's in other gardens. The strangest thing has been one comment about our flashing alarm light being "really bright" by a neighbour IN THE NEXT STREET!!! Sigh. It was just triggered as the back door was removed - as you do when knocking through -- and I hadn't gotten around to doing the whole reset thing yet.

Hold firm Avo. Look at the CADs!

avocuddl · 19/09/2019 16:24

Forgot to say that I LOVE TWSE! @WhereDoesThisToiletGo it's such a great space!! Is your kitchen going at this end?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 19/09/2019 17:03

@avocuddl new kitchen going near end, far end of TWSE will be a sitting area.
The intrusive pillar in the CAD has been designed out by builder with new plans from SE to back it up.
Building control came today but assume it was OK with them

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo love your kitchen!

What is your total space? As in how big?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 19/09/2019 19:28

@chopc it's a funny shape, at its narrowest it's about 3.4 because the utility sticks in, then it widens to about 4m where the wine rack and larder is, then beyond the kitchen units it widens to 5.3 across the living end where the French windows and TWSE is.
Total length is just over 10 metres.
The fridge, freezer and ovens are on the wall not seen behind the viewpoint.

Our island is just like yours only 90cm wide but about 2.4 long.
On paper it is still too wide for the space but we've had an island that width there in old kitchen and it was fine.

The final design has been tweaked a tiny bit from the CAD.

Looks amazing wheredoes! Such a huge room!

WorrisomeHeart · 19/09/2019 21:38

We have flooring!!! Terrible pic taken this evening, I’ll try and get a better one tomorrow.

The Cad images look amazing - can’t wait to see all the finished results!

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo can't wait to see the end result

chopc · 20/09/2019 08:07

@WorrisomeHeart flooring looks amazing! Is that amtico?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 20/09/2019 10:34

@chopc me too.
At least I feel we have passed the hump of ripping out and knocking down.
Electrician is doing first fix, and felt going on new roof so it's nice to finally be in the Construction phase rather than destruction phase.

OP posts:
avocuddl · 20/09/2019 11:04

I can't wait to be out of the destruction phase - so much rubble on my drive!! When did you start @WhereDoesThisToiletGo ? It's gone quite quick has it not?

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 20/09/2019 11:31

Not really quick, we were meant to start 19th August but actually started several weeks before then at builder's request as he had men available. But he did explain that it would just be external stuff and a bit piecemeal.
Come the "actual' start date bugger all happened that week!
We've already pushed the kitchen installation date back 3 weeks.
But it's really only been the past 2 weeks that it's really impacted on us as they took old kitchen out and dug up the floor tiles.
This week has been manic and mega messy as they did the steels and breakthrough

I don't know how people project manage a build themselves. Just making decisions is enough for me!

@Noroof started after me and she's finished a roof extension and got a new kitchen in!

OP posts:
Noroof · 20/09/2019 11:45

I'm still here with a roof extension and kitchen in record time. Sadly progress has somewhat halted due to the plasterer being ill and busy. We still need doors fitted and shower room and sliding wardrobes and then we will be done... this can't happen until the plasterer does his stuff. Meanwhile I suspect my builders are cheating on me with another build as they've been distant and they've moved their stuff out. Hey ho... they were perfect but it could've last.

Noroof · 20/09/2019 11:46

*couldn't

avocuddl · 20/09/2019 12:27

That's not bad wheredoes. We are on week 8 and hopefully knocking through next week. Been delayed with the added groundwork's on the side extension which builder estimated would add 4 weeks 😭 just want my larder now!!

soakedat3 · 20/09/2019 12:53

LOL @noroof! It was good while they were there and am sure they will come back.

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo - That is a massive room! And a lot of wine storage :D Well done your builders for getting rid of the pillar!

Love the floor @WorrisomeHeart. Your plasterer has done a nice smooth job too from the looks of that column. Are you close to the end now?

Looking back, we had no chance of being finished in 8 weeks. Not unless it was Noroofs builders but she was hogging them. ;) We are nearing week 16 now.

Radiators are in and some upvc things happening today along with some decorative bits and bobs. I think window ledges are this weekend as New Dad is waiting on "Big G" the groundsman as he will do a better job of it than himself he says. Still some tiny things to get done then paint and clean and paint and clean!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 20/09/2019 13:03

@Noroof Meanwhile I suspect my builders are cheating on me with another build as they've been distant and they've moved their stuff out. Hey ho... they were perfect but it couldn't last

But builders aren't meant to be forever.
They are really just Friends with benefits and then they move on when you've worn them out...

OP posts:
WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 20/09/2019 13:09

@soakedat3 That is a massive room!
It's so much better than I could have imagined considering how tiny TWSE is.
And of course getting rid of Pesky Pillar gives us so much more flexibility on how we can use the space

OP posts:
chopc · 20/09/2019 13:18

What was the original room before the extension?
