@avocuddl shame about your roof lantern.
@minniemooblue congratulations on your approved plans!

Watching with interest about plugs on islands.

The council man came to put a planning notice outside our house! This made me so excited!

Isittheend · 16/09/2019 20:36

Lol @WhereDoesThisToiletGo Mr Wheredoes sounds like mr isittheend when it comes to visualising spaces.

gleegeek · 16/09/2019 23:17

I think we've come round to the idea of a rooflight - thanks everyone! It's a 5mx3m extension but it's a whole new room being added on so the current room will still have a window and won't be any darker after the build.

Great news about the mega fast planning - glad it's not terminally slow for everyone...

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/09/2019 06:29

Excited!
I have steels sitting in the drive (they just need to work out how to get them round the back of the house)

Exciting @WhereDoesThisToiletGo !!!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/09/2019 10:35

Live steel installing....

Fence panel partially removed, large 5 m steel threaded through hole into back garden.
Swear words heard 2

Lifting mechanism lifted through same hole
No swear words heard.

Size of gaping hole in back of house
2 metres wide
Swear words 3 (all mine)

soakedat3 · 17/09/2019 12:02

Lolol! But progress is progress!

soakedat3 · 17/09/2019 12:35

@lightlypoached, the evoline one is v swish! I might show oh as he was considering another popup (after seeing how easy the other one was to install).

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/09/2019 13:36

I've been humming "right said Fred, gotta take this wall down...." while I watched.
2 blokes on each side of the fence with the skinniest one climbing through from side to side

🤣

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 17/09/2019 14:34

Big bastard steel in with vertical supporting steel riveted, welded and possibly velcroed to it and to the concrete foundation pad. That's the solid end.
The other end is currently resting on a wobbly spare brick, an arco prop and a blob of chewing gum.

soakedat3 · 17/09/2019 15:01

Just don't sneeze near velcro end!

Mummyshark2018 · 17/09/2019 21:27

@gleegeek
I would definitely put at least two velux in.
Ime they don't make the room hot but add great light.

Mummyshark2018 · 17/09/2019 21:30

@lightlypoached
We have 2 double sockets in the island at the same side as the stools. both with USB ports.

gleegeek · 17/09/2019 21:52

Exciting progress with the steel! I'm amazed how much heavy stuff gets propped up/joined together in a temporary fashion!
We're having a mini panic here. The extension is quite a bit taller than we had realised( thanks dodgy architect with your dodgy measuring!) I now don't know if there's room for a rooflight...The beams are already quite close to the bottom of the upstairs window - the view could be just looking onto a rooflight, rather than over it. Will try to attach pictures of current progress but don't know how much they show the problem...

gleegeek · 17/09/2019 21:54

No they're a bit useless sorry!

soakedat3 · 17/09/2019 22:12

What angle is the roof at? It does look quite high but that might just be because you said it was? We have no view down into the garden now from our bedroom because of the extension. If you want I'll post a side on view from outside.

Lots of progress today @WhereDoesThisToiletGo!

We have had window ledges delivered but not put in as another layer of brick was needed and left to dry. This last 1% of work is really taking aaaages!!

soakedat3 · 17/09/2019 22:14

(we also had poor trigonometry from the architect)

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 18/09/2019 07:13

It's annoying the tiny things that turn up as they build.
Our existing external walls are 2 or 3 cm narrower than new doors ones due to changes in building regs. So there will a vertical step where they meet. I guess builder could have made internal surface of wall level and had the step on the external side (which would have looked awful)
So we are trying to work out how best to hide this internally. We don't want to pad out the entire existing wall to meet the new one

new doors ones
Don't know where that random doors came from!

ishouldntsaybut · 18/09/2019 07:45

After lurking for the last few months, we are now finally getting to a position where I can start getting excited, as planning is done, funds are in place, awaiting building regs and our builder is ready to start in December. Been really enjoying seeing everyones progress and it's giving me hope that eventually I'll be picking light fittings but in the meantime am off to search for robovacs!

My first question of probably many, wondered if anyone knows if we can remove our dishwasher and pop the washing machine in its place? Would rather wash dishes by hand than clothes for 3 months when the garage/utility goes. Smile

Dunno but it's a good idea.
We are keen cooks but are living on freezer contents, bbq, and salads while we are kitchenless so dish washing up is minimal.
Like you, being without clothes washing machine is a pain - I went round to a relative with 4 loads of laundry this week! My tumble dryer is a vented one, so it is sitting in the garage, venting out of the open door.

Italianna · 18/09/2019 08:20

That is a good point @ishouldntsaybut. We will be moving our utility and building above kitchen which will be closed off so I am quite concerned (or as concerned as I can manage to reach on a fresh Wednesday morning) about how to do laundry! I usually do about 5-6 loads at the weekend. Any solutions reached please share!!
