Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

Just ordered our bathroom floor tiles, cannot wait to move in - it all seems to be slowly coming together now

Gorgeous tiles @WBF. Our tiling is nearly done, just the complicated niche that the tiler is not happy about with hexagonal tiles. My can of Railings should be arriving today for the untiled parts.

We've gone with the eye-watering induction hob too @lightlypoached. Our hob will be on an island & the roof light is almost above it. We could have got an non-standard sized roof light and positioned it to the side & slightly lowered the ceiling to include an extractor but felt like too much compromise.

lightlypoached · 08/07/2019 17:57

@Stokey indeed. When we looked at overall coats it kind of made sense. Kind of. 🥴

And it's a thing of cleverness and beauty. Grin

WorrisomeHeart · 08/07/2019 21:21

@WBWIFE those are absolutely beautiful tiles.

Just agreed the revised quote with the builder for our architect’s plans. The words ‘may as well be hung for a red cedar clad sheep as a lamb’ come to mind...

soakedat3 · 08/07/2019 21:32

But I bet you are excited to get the red ceder Worrisome :D

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 09/07/2019 06:41

@WorrisomeHeart there's a new build house just nearing completion round the corner from me. Not the prettiest of buildings with a pair of very dominant front gables. In the past week they've started to glad these gable fronts in wood and suddenly they're beautiful

Needtomovemore · 09/07/2019 07:06

I love cladding!

I secretly want to build a small kitchen extension after our main side extension and would love to clad it.

BreakfastAtSquiffanys · 09/07/2019 08:02

Oh, dear I feel sorry for the neighbours
Thr house behind us did a big extension last year and got it to the weatherproof stage with windows etc (and I think it's totally liveable inside) but they didn't finish the outside. It's still raw breezeblock while the rest of the old house is white render. Nothing has been done since last August - I assume they ran out of money.
Suddenly this week its all activity again, it sounded like a jackhammer going all day yesterday so they might be digging up the patio, and rumblings started this morning before 8.
Myabe this isn't the right week to pop my planned note thru their neighbours door, telling them we'll be digging foundations next month?

WorrisomeHeart · 09/07/2019 14:05

I am pleased we can (just about) afford it all - it would have been a shame to come this far and not be able to do as much. Just been to IKEA to get the Tilreda portable induction hob in preparation for week 1 of temporary kitchen next week! Any other tips from those who are in that stage now?

@BreakfastAtSquiffanys, it’s good that they’re able to start again though!

Noroof · 09/07/2019 16:32

It's started. I also have a huge hole on the front of my house where they are starting to strip out the loft insulation and boarding. Very exciting

WorrisomeHeart · 09/07/2019 17:08

Oh that is so exciting @noroof!!!!!!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 09/07/2019 17:39

I can see why @Noroof is moving out for the build!
I'm assuming that used to be your kitchen.

Noroof · 09/07/2019 17:59

Yeah... these are the walls in the rest of the house as well. Putting in structural supports

We're almost there now and the worktops arrived today - only one of the 3 sections has had to be returned as their is a small fault that can't be removed. Won't cost us anything but someone is going to be out of pocket somewhere along the supply chain. Also puts back things like installing the sink.
Our lights are also in now, including our slightly unusual over-island lights. We weren't quite convinced about them to start with but i think they'll be OK.

I'll take a picture and post later.

soakedat3 · 09/07/2019 22:15

It's all go @Noroof! I see that "Hilti" logo a lot too. It means progress! :D

We are still waiting on windows and doors before knocking through but builder doing other things like guttering now anyway. I learnt today that the window put in by the person before us who converted the garage isn't quite right. Sigh. Apparently bricks are meant to cover a part of the window trim else you are meant to cover it with a bit of trim. The garage conversion windows have big cracks in the silicon around it! ARGH! Have not told OH. He may explode.

Look forward to some completed pictures @GreenShadow. Remind us all of the end goals! :)

soakedat3 · 09/07/2019 22:16

(I had a look at the other windows that we had put in ourselves and New Dad Builder was right :( )

TheFatberg · 10/07/2019 07:25

Kitchen is out for delivery today. Please keep your fingers crossed for me!

OP posts:
WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 10/07/2019 07:27

crosses everything

Noroof · 10/07/2019 08:15

@TheFatberg is it from DIY?

TheFatberg · 10/07/2019 09:56

@Noroof yes it is. Only 4 weeks late!

OP posts:
Noroof · 10/07/2019 10:20

I was going to go with them... travelled all the way to the showroom everything but heard there were issues and went with a very similar sounding company instead. They've given me a delivery date of 3rd Aug...so 4 weeks...and been really helpful.
Price etc was comparable and the door quality was excellent so I'm hopeful!

PazRaz10 · 10/07/2019 12:21

I agree @soakedat3, I had never even heard of Hilti before our build, and it was bloody everywhere - trades lugging cases in and out every day!

soakedat3 · 10/07/2019 12:27

Did the kitchen come @TheFatberg?

TheFatberg · 10/07/2019 12:58

Not yet soaked we get a phone call an hour before and were told it can be any time between 8am and 10pm!

Summergarden · 10/07/2019 14:29
