Only a few posts left on the first thread of 2019, so here's a new one to get us started.

I think you want a warm tone wood with that aqua door otherwise it could look cold.
I'd all but chosen an ashy oak porcelain floor tile until I put it with my white and navy door samples and it all looked too grey and cold so I'm going for a warmer toned tile.
I also intend to have light oak accessories scattered around so I thought a natural tone rather than a fashion tone would be easier to blend with.

Noroof · 06/07/2019 13:20

That's a very good point! We have a dual aspects south facing kitchen so can carry a bit of dark stuff but you're right that I don't want it cold looking.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/07/2019 13:58

Our kitchen gets no South light at all, mostly east and north, with a lovely bit of late west light but that's at the living end not the kitchen end. So it's quite important for me

soakedat3 · 06/07/2019 14:35

How is it all going @TheFatberg?

We are bustling today also which is a relief. See prev posts! The roof is tiled! But not finished as still edging and leadwork to do. The welder has done his magic and according to the forecast will be tested on Tues...

My favourite is the top right of the 2nd pic @Noroof. It looks more honeyish.

soakedat3 · 06/07/2019 14:40

Plans look lovely Poached. I like the idea of leaving space for yoga and dancing. :D

Noroof · 06/07/2019 15:17

Our house is mainly south facing. All the living space faces south and 2 bedrooms are either east or west. There's one north facing room but that's going to be the new stair case and then all the rooms upstairs are south facing. We have gone for enormous velux to get the view etc

I agree, it's warm but not remotely orangey

TheFatberg · 06/07/2019 20:29

@Noroof I also like top right and left middle. We're currently looking at carpet samples and it's hard to decide.

@soakedat3 Well we've got no hot water or upstairs lights as the switch keeps tripping. Electrician said he'd fixed it but we got home this evening and he hasn't. Things have progressed a lot, and I feel weirdly desensitised to things going wrong, just seems to be part and parcel of extensions.

Kitchen is definitely coming on Wednesday, so that should be fitted by the end of the week.

@TheFatberg I was wondering if you had a definite delivery date yet. Good to know its back on track

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 06/07/2019 20:40

Random useful thing to consider...
170 ° hinges on certain cupboard doors.

WorrisomeHeart · 07/07/2019 05:06

Dumb question, but is that so that they open wider @WhereDoesThisToiletGo? I was thinking about how to sort that one our pantry. Is it a standard fitting?

Brilliant news re the kitchen @TheFatberg, I hope it all goes smoothly.

And another vote for the top right @noroof 😆

Our kitchen builder has given me all sorts of dates for when he needs appliances etc on site. Am super excited to finally be buying the Thread Fridge! 😂

Noroof · 07/07/2019 05:07

Today is moving out day and I can't sleep. We were up to midnight still packing. I've 2 small kids so basically it had to be done as we wouldn't get much peace this morning. I'm off out to deadhead my roses before everyone else gets up...

TheFatberg · 07/07/2019 06:59

@Noroof that's a very early start for you! How long will you be moving out for?

OP posts:
WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 07/07/2019 07:34

@WorrisomeHeart yes 170 hinges allow the door to open to nearly all the way back. This is on front placed doors, I don't know about in frame
Standard hinges are about 100 to 110 degrees so the door opens just beyond a right angle, which is plenty to grab out a mug etc. They can't open wider as door on the next unit beside stops it.
But I was worried about our pantry cupbard as I intend to use it as an appliance garage so would feel like I'm using blender with my head in a cupboard. Designer says they would put wider opening hinges as standard on a pantry but not everyone does. It's worth asking if you think that they might be useful

MyNameIsJane · 07/07/2019 07:39

Good luck @Noroof I found I was dragging my heels when it came to moving out.

This week we’re zoning on tiles and floors.

I’m removing the plaster splodges from the ground floor and DH is laying ply upstairs in preparation for the carpets being laid on 15th. My fridge is also arriving a week on Monday. It’s mahoosive!

I'm very envious of those of you who are capable of doing part of the stuff yourselves or who have husbands who do DIY. Bless him, Mr WheresDoes has many excellent qualities but wielding a hammer is not one of them. After spending a weekend early in our marriage replacing tiles in our bathroom (badly) he decided that he would rather work the weekend earning overtime and pay a professional to do the job properly! I am marginally more competent but still pretty rubbish.
My best friend's partner has totally renovated their place on his own!

soakedat3 · 07/07/2019 09:53

@MyNameIsJane, I have those mosiac tiles in my en suite!

@TheFatberg, yes, I'm quite disillusioned about property shows now as they don't reflect on the niggles long. Only takes a minute screen time and then everything works again lol! Can't wait to see your kitchen! Something to look forward to!

soakedat3 · 07/07/2019 09:56

I agree with you wheredoes! Mr Soaked is OK at diy but also rather work and pay for others for most things... I would also rather this! Wink

lightlypoached · 07/07/2019 12:54

A productive , if expensive day yesterday. Chose the doors (DH loved them I'm not 100% sure as I think they will date - critter style). But he really loved them so I'll agree.

Designed the kitchen but have chosen to replace the induction with an extracting induction which is brilliant but eye wateringly expensive.

Contingency already spent and we don't even have approved plans yet BlushHmmShock

Exciting though !

lightlypoached · 07/07/2019 12:55

Crittal not critter !

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 07/07/2019 15:09

It is positively NOT to be used during the build, but I've just bought a robot vacuum on Amazons Deal of the Day reduced by £70! Hopefully to keep my acres of tiling clean once it's all finished!

MyNameIsJane · 07/07/2019 18:41

I bought the Robovac from Spain when it was on special offer on Amazon over there. I’m saving it until all the rubble is gone!

MyNameIsJane · 07/07/2019 18:47

Bathroom twins @soakedat3 Grin

Noroof · 07/07/2019 20:47

We are out for 6 weeks... build will take 8.
We only found out that we were going ahead 3 weeks ago. In that time I've emptied 10 years work of hoarded crap from the loft and packed up the entire house....all whilst working/ caring for kids. I'm exhausted.

WorrisomeHeart · 08/07/2019 08:36

Phew, what a whirlwind @noroof!! You’ll be glad for a break once it starts 😜

Good news at our house today - we’ve had a second, MUCH more reasonable quote for that beautiful Amtico floor. And the final PWA is in and the neighbour is fine with us starting the kitchen next Monday! Just need to wait and see how astronomically bad the new quote (based on the Grand Design style architect plans) is today and then decide what we think is worth paying for (I’m opting for more insulation over design features but not sure DH agrees...)
