I’m not going to sacrifice the humidor for it.

But really, I agree, I can’t see how I need 42 bottles of sauv blanc chilled at any one time. Our temp rental has another fridge in the utility and we leave the house through it in the mornings, so we use it for packed lunches made the night before, and a few beers/bottles of tonic/couple of bottles of wine. And I think that’s useful, so thinking we’ll get use our old under counter fridge in our utility and when it breaks we’ll get an integrated one (will get the door at same point as the kitchen).

WorrisomeHeart · 26/05/2019 08:45

Just ordered one of these for the temporary kitchen. At that price, I figure it doesn’t matter if it only works for the 7 weeks of the build!!😂

@WorrisomeHeart good move, anything that makes THE Build easier.
We've currently got a built in microwave /oven (19 years old) and I'm hoping it can survive to 20 in the planned temp kitchen area in dining room. Plus the Thread portable induction hob from IKEA, of course!

WorrisomeHeart · 26/05/2019 12:19

I saw the Thread Hob in person yesterday, it looks great! I have high hopes for it acting as a spare hob for Xmas as well.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 26/05/2019 13:42

@WorrisomeHeart I've saved £££ by choosing a 4 ring equivalent hob rather than 6 that I rarely need and left more room for worktop, will get that hob for Build and Christmas.

Better be careful, I'm sure DIY kitchens recent problems are because they can't cope with the volume of recommendations coming from mumsnet. Ikea might sell out of these hobs too!

soakedat3 · 26/05/2019 16:53

New dad builder was around doing some more reassuring measurements. He thinks he'll get site cleared on sat and skip and materials delivered ready to go. Seemed to take it in stride when I laid out planning woes. Must be common occurrence!

LOL at the thread hob and ff. Any recommendations for a thread mini fridge? New dad thinks that as new appliances not far away from current utilities they'd not be out of action too long.

TheFatberg · 26/05/2019 20:35

Choosing flooring is a real pain isn't it?!

soakedat3 · 27/05/2019 08:27

What kind are you looking at Fatberg? I think it's hard to visualise how it'll look and feel.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 27/05/2019 08:34

Paying for flooring is also a real pain!

TheFatberg · 27/05/2019 09:17

soakedat3 I like the herringbone effect but it seems so expensive as we have 52m² to cover. I don't know if laminate isn't as hard wearing and might look too cheap over a large area. I haven't quite got my head around the different types yet.

WhereDoesThisToiletGo yep that too!

avocuddl · 27/05/2019 15:50

I had the same wine fridge convo with my dad this week. I was just looking at a small 7 bottle capacity one. He said you probably don't need to keep a under £10 bottle of red at the optimum temperature so was unnecessary. My other friend said that could be a cupboard full of random kids plates/bowls and that would be more use. Unfortunately they are both right and we are not sophisticated enough really for a wine fridge!

avocuddl · 27/05/2019 15:51

Hoppahouse im thinking of just going for retro bulbs- which ones did you go for in the end? I was worried about the light being the right colour so grateful for any recommendation!

@soakedat3 is new dad clearing the site this Saturday? But not starting till September? Or did I miss something??

avocuddl · 27/05/2019 15:53

I think I've decided on sandstone tiles for the floor but I'm hoping I don't regret it!

elasticfantastic · 27/05/2019 16:00

@OptimisticPrime we're having a wine fridge. We don't have expensive posh wines that need keeping at perfect temperature, but we do often have friends round and I never seem to have enough fridge room to keep a few bottles cold at all times, so for us we thought sod it! We're spending so much on the kitchen anyway, a bit more for a little luxury- might as well! We do also have the luxury of space for it though.

WorrisomeHeart · 27/05/2019 16:07

We are (probably) having Amtico or Karndean for our flooring. I popped into a showroom on the weekend while my eldest was at his art class and am still completely in love with the Amtico. It will come down to price in the end though. We currently have old, incredibly badly fitted, grey tiles on our floor and I hate them. I can’t wait for a full flat floor. Mind you, I am still looking longingly at the poured resin floors 😜😂

So because of the DIY K issues this weekend, I’m getting a quote from a cabinet maker and we’re also going to see Wickes at the end of this week. Where is everyone else getting their kitchen from (if not DIYK)?

MyNameIsJane · 27/05/2019 17:54

I’m just getting 1 cabinet from DIY K and another from Lark & Larks and the rest from Ikea.

soakedat3 · 27/05/2019 22:14

@avocuddl, New Dad is clearing the site on Sat and starting as soon as planning comes. Architect is going to chase up tomorrow as the 35 working days is up on Friday. Think after that they have to justify why they've not given permission as stated in their charter (which I downloaded to read). We have had no queries about anything at all! Just radio silence :(

soakedat3 · 27/05/2019 22:18

Our kitchen is from a local company but Second Nature doors.

WorrisomeHeart · 28/05/2019 06:17

So frustrating soaked, I hope you get a positive update soon.

I checked the DIY Kitchens delivery times again yesterday and they’ve improved to now showing the end of July for the range we want. I think we’re still going to go with them but might put our order in soon!

WhereDoesThisToiletGo · 28/05/2019 06:47

@soakedat3 Our kitchen is from a local company but Second Nature doors
Same here.
We're going for Porter slab door, painted not gloss
I know we could get it cheaper by going to one of the online companies (DIY kitchens don't do SN anymore) but I am happy to pay the premium for them doing all the legwork and organising.

avocuddl · 28/05/2019 07:17

Oh soaked I hope you hear soon!! So frustrating

Hoppahouse · 28/05/2019 08:35

Our kitchen is from Burbridge kitchens - mainly because the kitchen fitter who was recommended to us uses them and it was all just easier in the end. We went for white malmo (handleless) cupboards on the wall and charcoal (same as DIY blue black) on the island with marble effect quartz.
www.burbidge.co.uk/OurKitchens

@avocuddl Our retro bulbs were from Dunelm in the end - they are quite orangey, but does go nicely against our exposed brick wall.

@soakedat3 That is really rubbish about Planning - ours went a few days over the time deadline as they started to question about a tree that was being removed - on the day we should have had an answer 🙄😤

soakedat3 · 28/05/2019 09:20

@WhereDoesThisToiletGo, we are getting the Litchfield one in kitchen and a cheaper shaker style in the utility. I looked online too and although unitsonline did the range the delivery cost was an eye watering £500 to us. In the end I'd rather someone else did the calculations for the end panels and trim etc.

@Hoppahouse, it's all very annoying. The extension will end 4 metres from nearest boundary. Within PD bounds. Single story so no privacy issues as we won't be facing any neighbouring building. No trees to remove. Fairly flat. Brick to match existing house so should merge in.

Fingers crossed they get a move on. It was hard enough to get New Dad builder I really do not want to do it all again with a new set of people.

WorrisomeHeart · 28/05/2019 09:40

soaked is it PD or full planning you’re waiting on? Our PD submission took the full amount of time to come through but the (supposedly more complex) full planning came through early. I wonder if they let the PD applications just run the time down.

Catquest1 · 28/05/2019 09:58

Hello all just catching up.

Unbelievably we are still not finished. My patience is wearing very thin let me tell you. Mainly the plumbing. Everything else is pretty much done except the plumbing. However i do have a plumber on site today! Who is hoping to do everything this week. But we still aren't moved in to the new rooms.

Builder has sent final bill and reported he is finished - except theres a great big ruddy pole still holding up the front fascia of the house ..... bracket was ordered back in February for this.
