DIY kitchens - Helmsley anyone?

Hello
We think we have decided on a Helmsley kitchen from DIY kitchens. Has anyone else got this one and if so would you mind posting some pictures? It’s not available to view in the showroom so we are buying offline without seeing it (although I will order a sample door).

Going for a F&B painted finish.
Any advice/tips/pics most welcome! Thanks

And these first two are of the Norton display and the third of another view of the Stanbury.

That skimming stone colour looks amazing, it's one of the ones I have on my list but I'm not sure if it goes with dark navy. Thanks for the photos Rosita. I see what you mean about the beading, I'd does look so much worse as a close up.

4yearsnosleep I stupidly left my phone at home and could not take any photos, I took one before of an open end panel of an island where they said it was constructed from pillasters or corner posts and end panels for shels with strong L shaped brackets underneath. I will try to attach it, it's a clever way to make a cabinet that the range does not have. I guess the same was done for Stanbury display, that cabinet that Rosita took a picture of.

I have just looked through my Pinterest board and I have this saves, also incidentally from Wickes, they have framed it with end panels nicely. I'm sure you can find examples on Pinterest or Houzz. And maybe pop into Wickes if you have one close by as it seems to be their thing :)

That’s very clever with the end panels. It almost does give it that inframe look.
So, another thought.....perhaps you already know this but Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch currently have a half price sale on. It’s not going to work for me sadly as they have a long lead time but their kitchens are breathtakingly beautiful and you can choose with or without beading. In fact no beading is cheaper. Their sale quote came in at about 8k for me so it’s really worth considering if you can afford it. The dreamers are all solid oak and beautiful! Much nicer than the Blum ones.

aisteb · 18/09/2018 20:32

Oh I'd love to have their kitchen but I don't have enough time as it is, should have ordered it all already but still back and forth on the layout. How long do they take out of curiosity?

Janet25 · 18/09/2018 20:47

So I’ve had quotes both off Units Online and DIY now and decided we’re going to go for the Stanbury from DIY in Hague Blue. Do we have it with cornice and permits or not???
I’ve included or kitchen design, the black breakfast bar will actually be Solid Oak as shown in the display on the Stanbury in the showroom.

@Janet25 instead of cornice and pelmet, we're using end panels cut in 1/2 lengths wise to frame the units and I felt the cornice and pelmet was too traditional.

It's going to be gorgeous whatever you decide

aisteb · 18/09/2018 21:56

Nice kitchen! And two wine fridges? You must drink a lot of wine Grin We too will just frame the kitchen with end panels, I want them to go all the way to the ceiling to not have a gap above the tall units. Will be having no wall units so it was easier to decide.

Do you have coving in that room? Cornice would match it nicely if you do.

Janet25 · 18/09/2018 22:28

That sounds interesting, have you got any pictures of how that will look?

aisteb · 18/09/2018 22:48

Here are some examples of the sort of look I like. The light grey cabinet are amazing but I would not be able to achieve nowhere near as uniform look in our awkward spaceSad

Beautiful kitchen janet25, that’s so exciting! I don’t really have any idea about cornices - yet another thing to think about. End panels sound like an interesting alternative but I can’t imagine how it will look.

Rosita · 18/09/2018 22:59

Cross posted with you aisteb! Those are great pictures and now I see what you mean. It’s a really clean look, I like it. And all those banks of tall units are giving me some confidence in an alternative kitchen plan I had done but wasn’t sure about.

4yearsnosleep · 19/09/2018 03:38

Hi Janet

There's a few examples on their real kitchens. I'll have a look and pull a couple of examples

Janet25 · 19/09/2018 09:26

Haha we didn’t think about wine coolers initially but having seen a similar display they looked really good so perfect excuse to increase my alcohol consumption Grin

The ceilings are very tall but we won’t have coving in the room as it’s a fairly modern open plan space despite the building being old.

Thanks 4years so is that the look with using the end panel then? That’s the look we was considering but just presumed that’s how it would look just by not using cornice and pelmets I didn’t realise you had to use end panels Blush

4yearsnosleep · 19/09/2018 11:15

Hi Janet

Yes without end panels to frame the cabinet it's just doors that you see.

@4yearsnosleep we were talking about slightly different looks, I am going to have to use end panels as filler panels as we are not framing it, bot boxing it all in to the ceiling. But sort of similar idea for a more modern look. If I was to use wall cabinets I'd do same as you.

I am finally getting round to sending my kitchen plans off for a quote, will let you know how they compare.

Janet25 · 19/09/2018 12:14

Thank you, that’s really helped and I think we will now use the end panels as you suggest as it looks great

aisteb · 19/09/2018 12:45

Janet25 if you are having an inframe kitchen then it looks ok without end panels as it is already framed in, like in this photo. Just this kitchen has cornice on top.

Hi, Just got Multiwood and Burrbridge kitchen colour samples from units online. Multiwood have an exact match of hague blue and it is called ink blue, in case someone looking for this popular colour - could compare the prices between DIY bespoke and UO Multiwood kitchens.

I am still waiting for my quotes, it will still all be down to the price as UO has some colours we like though not as much as Little Greene Bassalt that DIY could replicate.

@Rosita do you know how long Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch take to produce a kitchen? Also do they colourmatch any colour?Tried calling them but no answer and they have not answered my email yet. I have asked them for a quote as well.

aisteb · 21/09/2018 16:25

oh they have just replied, current lead times January 2018 :O Unfortunately cannot wait that long. The quote came in at £8,5k but the kitchens come unpainted, it would probably cost quite a bit on top to get a painter in..

Janet25 · 21/09/2018 17:44

I’ve just had both quotes through from DIY and UO and DIY are £1.5k cheaper for us, so that’s decision made. Stanbury in Hague Blue :)

aisteb · 21/09/2018 18:55

@Janet25 have you looked at Multiwood ink blue? Looks the same as Hague Blue!

How exciting that your decision is already made, I will report back how my quotes compare.

I hope that UO won't be than much more as their turnaround is 2-3weeks quicker than DIY bespoke and I am waaaaay too late to order already. Might need to ask whether they would deliver the units first and only the doors and end panels when they have been painted..

Oh and my above post was meant to say January 2019 for Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch..

4yearsnosleep · 21/09/2018 19:58

@aisteb @alickofpaint on Instagram has a gorgeous Basalt kitchen
