DIY kitchens - Helmsley anyone?

We think we have decided on a Helmsley kitchen from DIY kitchens. Has anyone else got this one and if so would you mind posting some pictures? It’s not available to view in the showroom so we are buying offline without seeing it (although I will order a sample door).

Going for a F&B painted finish.
Any advice/tips/pics most welcome! Thanks

Watching with interest as this is the range we are looking at. Which colour are you going with? We still like Hague Blue island and Cornforth White units but next year when we install that may have changed.

Similar to us then! Ammonite or cornforth units plus dark blue island! My worry is that it will also date...I have been researching kitchens for nearly 2 years and still can’t decide!! Initially I was going for matt white handleless and I seem to have now gone full circle to in frame shaker. I feel that it’s such a big decision I have to get it right!!

My ideal if budget would allow us a Higham Handless shaker...

If it's a long term house does it matter if it dates, as long as you like it? I think too often people get caught up in trends and not what makes them happy. Yes Amonite was the other variation of light grey we were looking at, good choice!

Yes it is a long term house and you are right as long as we like it then trends shouldn’t matter. I think that why I’ve decided to stick with more classic style units and colours so that they don’t date. Too much choice though!

We visited the DIY kitchens show room the other weekend it is great! We liked the Norton and the colour Mussel. I brought away painted samples of all their standard colours and have realised these are all F&B colours, but with different names. They match the F&B paint sample card exactly. Just saying this as you might then find it's not worth paying the extra for a bespoke colour. In my opinion the colour matches are as follows:
White is All white
Alabaster is James white
Mussel is Shaded white
Cashmere is Purbeck stone
Dakar is Hardwick white
Vanilla is House white
Light Grey is Dimpse
Cornflower blue is Skylight
Sage is Cooking apple green
Obviously best if you order samples and double check the colours though.
I would still recommend visiting the showroom if it isn't too far to travel as they have all the doors in all the colours and you can put them next to each other to properly compare. Also we spent time drinking the free coffee in the Mussel coloured kitchen even though it wasn't the Norton style to really get a feel for what it would be like living with a whole kitchen that colour. Hope this helps.

Saw this thread the other day and meant to say a huge thank you to @GladitsFfriday - such helpful information!!

This is exactly the same combination of colours and style of kitchen i am looking into now; also want to avoid the 4 hour drive to DIY knowing that Helmsley is not on display. Did anyone go for this combination in the end? Any pics or comments? Thanks :)

Have you tried looking on their website at the customer kitchens section?

Would love to know if you went for this in the end and whether you are happy with it?

We’ve just ordered a Harewood kitchen but would have gone for Helmsley if we had the budget. Helmsley looks absolutely beautiful.

I’m thinking about making the journey from Surrey to the showroom.

Me! I just fitted Helmsley in light grey with dark grey island (was it called charcoal?). Went for the standard colours due to timing and cost. Will see if I can post a pic.

We've just installed ours, Ammonite kitchen with Hague Blue island. When I received the sample doors I was a little underwhelmed so we asked if they could make the Helmsey without the cockbead detail, which DIY we're happy to do. We are absolutely over the moon with it now, in my opinion it looks alot cleaner.

This is the difference between cockbead and no cockbead detailing. We had done damage to one of our drawer faces and DIY sent a replacement but sent it with cockbead detail.

We are going to go for Helmsley as well, so good to know you can have it without the beading, that's the detail I was not sure about! Humptynumpty is this Hague Blue in the photo? We were gonna go for Railings as Hague Blue seems "too blue" but it looks almost black in your photo?

It is Hague Blue, under artificial light it is really dark but in natural light it does look more blue. Here's a picture of it during daylight so you can see the contrast.

Thank you Humptynumpty, I am even more confused which colour to go for now. I thought I had already settled on Cornforth White and Railings and now I fear one is too light, the other too dark

HTKS I love your kitchen! Island envy here, we can only fit in a peninsula.. Is this their stock light grey colour? What are your worktops please?

It’s a marble effect quartz called Denali cloud and the colour is a F and B called Mizzle, it’s sort of a sage green grey.

HTKS - love love love your island! I am not sure yet if I have room for one or will have to go for a peninsula but I love the design of yours. How did you do those shelves on one side?
Confused about colors too! Ammonite looks darker here than I thought. Mizzle looks lovely, though I had originally discounted as it has a green tinge and I want a more bluish grey.

That’s really interesting about the cockbeading. I’ve seen the Handmade Kitchens of Christchurch which had a very similar design with cockbeading which did look beautiful. A matter of taste I guess! I have no idea yet which I prefer.....

Rosita we have dismissed DIY's own light grey because it is blueish, maybe it would be right for you without the custom colour price tag? The walls in our dining room are pale blue grey, not sure what colour it is as we have just bought this house. The small cabinet sample of light grey looks true grey but against that wall looks identical so I think over a large are it will look blueish. We are after a warm pale grey and I'm so torn between all the choices!

HTKS we are also after a marble effect quartz or Minerva solid surface, whichever will work out cheaper. Love that look
