Today is completion day. We are finishing the packing and will pop into the flat once we get the keys but we don't move until tomorrow. I bloody hope the vendors taken the shit furniture by now!

Eeeeeeeeeeeek.

kirinm · 19/08/2016 08:52

Completion date wouldn't be fun without anxiety. Still no confirmation the flat has been emptied and now solicitor is wanting reassurance that he can transfer the funds. EA needs to go into the flat but he's not in work yet.

faffalotty · 19/08/2016 10:18

Good luck Kirinm!

Can't wait to hear an update! All fingers crossed that cheeky vendor sorted his crap out

coolpatterngirl · 19/08/2016 11:22

Good luck Kirin, hope everything goes smoothly.

kirinm · 19/08/2016 11:41

WE'VE COMPLETED!!

Vendor finally got rid of his shit and the EA confirmed that about an hour ago and we can pick up the keys! Our very own shithole Wink

Nervybuyer2016 · 19/08/2016 11:51

Fantastic news! Hope you settle in quickly and live very happily ever after Flowers

Meanwhile over in chez nervy things are tense. It's all been delayed by three weeks which has caused us and the vendor such inconvenience. Really frustrated and seemingly sod all we can do.

Spickle · 19/08/2016 11:52

Congrats Kirinm!! Now, breathe....!!

Enjoy your purchase and soon the whole process will be a distant memory!!

A few glass of Wine Wine Wine methinks!

kirinm · 19/08/2016 11:55

Thanks everyone. And thanks Spickle for your help throughout. We don't actually move in until tomorrow but we will be going for a drink tonight to celebrate (everything is packed).

Nervy - that's what happened with us. It is so infuriating.

kirinm · 19/08/2016 17:09

Here's a picture. I don't think it'll out me.

Looks lovely Kirin. Enjoy settling inWine

I've just popped back onto thread to say my sale has completed too. Can't believe it. I only accepted the offer a month ago and my property was leasehold. I think this is all down to the buyer's father. He was a solicitor and apparently was hassling mine like crazy.

Off to celebrate leaving the property ladder!! Good luck everyone

Nervybuyer2016 · 19/08/2016 20:22

That looks so lovely Smile hope moving in tomorrow goes smooth!

Two dogs blimey Shock. I wish I had solicitor in laws!

Yay kirin!!!! So pleased for you Grin And Twodogs!

kirinm · 21/08/2016 12:46

Love the flat. Currently calculating how much we now need to find to put it back together. Thinking of taking out a loan! Shock

nervybuyer2016 · 21/08/2016 20:59

Don't rush into anything Kiri, right now you're looking at it with fresh impatient eyes but the longer you live with something the less bothersome it becomes, and you can go slower and save money doing so.

Don't pay even more interest on the house, that could be money spent on overpaying the mortgage etc
So glad you love it though!!!!

kirinm · 23/08/2016 10:28

How's everyone doing? DP and I have decided to try not to keep seeing what has to be done in this flat (there is now a ridiculously long list) but try and enjoy it in its current state and make temporary repairs and additions to make sure it's comfortable to live in for now.

We met a tenant who lives upstairs who had some enlightening information. Apparently they had a big problem with rats here which the freeholders (none of whom live here - except us now) refused to do anything for 6 months! I am pretty sure our solicitor asked a question about any problems with vermin in the pre-contract enquiries which, of course, our vendor answered with a 'no'. I don't think our vendor understands that he is meant to tell the truth.

Basically, the freeholders refuse to part with cash which has caused problems with the drains and rats etc. So it looks like we might need to play a very active role in extracting money from them when work needs to be done. We've told the tenant to notify us of problems (such as leaks or blocked drains) so we can try and push for action before it starts affecting our flat.

I'm finding home owning quite anxiety inducing tbh hence why we are going to stop compiling lists of what we want to do other than those things that need to be done.

faffalotty · 23/08/2016 12:41

Hopefully it was just your vendor who was causing problems and the rest of the freeholders are more reasonable.

I'm waiting to get hold of the survey on the house I'm buying they said I'd have it Friday, then yesterday... I'm starting to wonder if they found something major, considering the time it is taking. With our buyers, we are waiting to hear if they want to make a deduction for damp-proofing.

I'm off on holiday at the end of the week (booked a long time before I knew I'd have to move house) and would like to go away without any issues hanging about.

YelloDraw · 23/08/2016 17:47

kirinm the flat looks lovely!

I hope it's not too stressful getting things sorted. So happy you've completed.

I'm hoping to exchange this week but solicitor being v slow.

scurryfunge · 23/08/2016 18:00

I've been reading the threads for a while but not posting. We completed on Friday and we now have our little two bed doer-upper. I'm so excited. I've planned the interior several times over using Pinterest. We've down sized so I now need to get rid of loads but have left a month overlap from rental to get this sorted. Just bought a bargain ex showroom kitchen today for pennies compared to what it would sell for. Good luck to everyone.
The vendor left plenty of junk, from 1980s tv cabinet to his athletes foot cream!

Nervybuyer2016 · 23/08/2016 18:30

Arghhhhhhhh

Our movers are booked for new completion date and can't move us until almost s week later.

I don't know what to do. If we had the money I'd get it painted and carpeted and make use of the empty house but we don't. I feel really unhappy about leaving the house empty. It's 18 miles away so a fair drive to keep checking there's no squatters

faffalotty · 24/08/2016 12:35

Can't you move enough in for you to be able to live there for a week, maybe camping style?

I'm STILL waiting to get my survey report!! Starting to get annoyed. I only used this company because the bank use them for the valuation so it worked out a lot cheaper (I just had to 'upgrade' to a survey). Last time I used a surveyor they called me on the same day as the survey with a brief outline of what they've found, I assumed it would be the same this time...

Also our buyers have now come back with a sum they want to deduct from the purchase price to get damp-proofing done. It's less than £2k so we've said ok. PLEASE let that be the last query.

My stress rating is about to hit maximum I think: buying/selling houses, separating from husband and going on holiday with kids on Friday. And all with the constant worry of money.

OP posts:
Nervybuyer2016 · 25/08/2016 08:49

Faffy that sounds really hard, I'm
Sorry you're dealing with all that. I'm glad the requested price reduction wasn't huge, still niggles though I'm sure. I hope you manage to have a nice holiday with the kids Flowers

We've found new movers, so we can get in quicker. Waiting around now for two weeks like solicitor is on holiday. So annoying to be twiddling thumbs!

Mummyme87 · 25/08/2016 09:11

Nervy, does your solicitor not have anyone to pass on your case to whilst she is on holiday? Seems madness that everything stops for her time off. Glad you sorted your removals.

We are on exchange date no4 today. Here's hoping. My removals have confirmed that they can do our new exchange date next week
