Good luck with the mortgage temp.

Ive done so much fantasy decorating. im not sure it's sensible to be "picking out curtains" at this early stage but I'm too excited.

good luck with the mortgage temp!

only 6 days til we get the keys fingers crossed. god so nervous/excited... we need to negotiate with the vendors about a rotten door which is annoying. they told us they had just had it replaced and we saw a brand new door on our second viewing. miraculously on our visit after exchange said new door had disappeared to be replaced with the previous totally rotten one. bit fishy but they have promised us cash for a new one. we shall see.

sounds like people are making good progress!

That's both weird and annoying about the door bumble. I hope they do cough up.

It's hard to resist mentally decorating the house, temporary. I hope you hear about the mortgage very soon.

That door thing is weird. It takes effort to keep swapping doors over!

I've been lurking on the kitchen design thread that's going on. Bonkers because If we even get the house it's going to be a good long while before I can tackle that (want to extend as well). It's my new Rightmove (I've banned myself from that, no more properly perving).

Solicitor told me it wasn't "recommended" to give notice on our rental lease before exchange of contracts. I feel like I'm taking a calculated risk by doing so.. Hope it works out!

Tits - the other option is to have a fixed period between exchange and completion if you need to give your LL notice. We did that - we have had four weeks so we didnt either have to pay rent and mortgage at the same time and/or be homeless.

Waaaaaaiting. Haven't heard anything from lender re: valuation so our broker is chasing them up today. And we called our solicitor for an update but now we are waiting for her to call us back.

I am NOT a patient person and it is amazing how many friends and family gave me unsolicited advice to somehow try and turn into one during the house buying process Hmm Grin

Can I join please? Here's some Cake

tits we're buying and leaving rented too. We have to give 2 months notice and our initial years tenancy finishes late July. So I'm hoping to exchange before the half term hols so as not to pay our insanely rich landlord any more money than is entirely necessary.

My sol just phoned in a slightly frenzied sounding panic to let me know I'm asking her to get us exchanged in 14 working days. She's not that optimistic!

thats the worst HeyHey I am also very impatient.

re doorgate - I rung the agent and explained the situation. I told him the quotes we had received and said that I fully expected the vendors to meet the cost in full. we shall see...

I have been surrounded by boxes for months; we moved cities at the end of last year for dh's work and landed in a too-small-but-cheap rental with the view of finding a house to buy asap. We haven't bothered unpacking much because we knew we weren't staying long, plus there was nowhere to put anything. It's been hard going for me and the dc. But we will soon be stretching out in our new house and I'm sure I can cope with a couple more weeks of feeling cramped. :) The timing is such that we'll have a month of overlap with the rented house and our new house, but that gives us more time to shift everything and clean. I can't wait to say goodbye to this house, though. I'm sure I'm not the only one who wishes for magical moving powers. Just to click my fingers and everything is done! But I shall enjoy the calm before the storm instead.

I still feel celebrating may jinx things. I'll be happiest with the keys in hand I think!

Fingers crossed, temporary. I know those feelings all too well.

Hope you hear soon, Temp.

Heard back from our broker and the lender told him they had just instructed the valuation minutes before he rang them Hmm a likely story. Still, it's done now :)

Also had a letter saying our solicitor has been part bought out by another solicitor? But our contact person hasn't changed? Waiting to get confirmation from them :/

Can I join in?

We had a offer accepted on a property about a week ago (took them 3 days to accept, it was soooo nerve wracking) originally we just thought the house was good enough for what we wanted but as we've been making plans for what we want to do with it we've fallen in love with it.

We've got the mortgage meeting tonight so hopefully that will go well. It's been quite a while since I did this last so I can't remember how it all works Confused

TitsDown · 04/05/2016 16:23

Hi potatos and everyone.

Well we went up for a second visit to the house. (It's 100 miles away so no small undertaking with DS (2yo) and DS (4mo)). We also met with the broker (the estate agent's one, sorry rainbow but I got too impatient, and easier to do f-t-f). So our application is going in tomorrow (I was just short one piece of paperwork). Our vendor is taking vacant possession so v short chain and has temp accom lined up if needed (as do we, which is why I was ok serving LL notice).

Hope you've heard now temp

Well done rainbow - I'm pretty sure you can celebrate now!!

Thanks for the congratulations everyone - am trying not to Google phrases like "vendor pulled out after exchange"! I know it's very unlikely and our vendors are seemingly decent and non-loony, so I should stop worrying.

Best of luck Titsdown. We moved 3.5 hour away into this rental with five DC so you have my sympathies. Thankfully the house we are buying is 10 miles away now so we don't have such pressure again. Ugh.

We are desperate to move - and guess what, the survey on the house we finally managed to find that would work for us has just come back, and it is terrible. The surveyor has recommended against buying. And there is nothing else on the market now that we can afford and that is not completely horrible. We are almost priced out.

Is there any truth in what I've heard about house prices going down if the EU referendum vote is to leave the EU?
Not that I want to leave the EU, but at least it would be a silver lining.

Report
PotatosMum · 04/05/2016 19:57

I think it's very unlikely that house prices will go down if we leave the EU. They may stagnate a little but I think that's it.

Mortgage meeting today was a waste of time. I let the EA we're buying with talk me into seeing theirs and he was useless. Turned up, showed me one option and then left a inch thick stack of paperwork for me to fill in so that his admin girl could process it... After he left I looked on line and found that the same deal was available openly to anyone all you had to do was full in the paperwork online that he wanted me to do by hand Hmm wondering what exactly he is being paid for?
I shall be going back to the adviser I was going to use to start with. She's more expensive but she actually provides advice, helps fill in the papers and earns her money.

TitsDown · 05/05/2016 05:51

Jeepers rainbow. I don't envy you that move! Hopefully this one will be easier and how much are you going to relish unpacking everything! Stop googling! You're (almost) home and dry. When do you complete?

potato that sounds lame. I made the EA broker work for his fee. We were only up for the day and he more or less turned the application round yesterday afternoon (he didn't even mind us juggling the kids whilst we did the forms. The independent ones I tried were both uncommunicative at best. I don't get it.

That's frustrating leman, how bad is it? We're considering just getting valuation survey but I'm worried about what we might miss. I have noticed prices slowing in where I am buying since Feb but definitely not falling. I also don't think the EU referendum will make a difference c

Tits funny you should say that... The mortgage broker yesterday was an independent who has a deal with an EA.
I'd previously seen an EA broker who did the initial affordability etc and she was much better. Fluffing around, telling us what we needed and filling out forms for us. I'm so glad I didn't cancel my appointment with her unfortunately it means waiting until next week to get the mortgage in principle but it'll be worth it!

I hate this bit, all the waiting around for things to get started Confused

A better day today - got confirmation that the valuation has been booked for tomorrow, and finally managed to speak to our solicitor, who I was beginning to think was a myth. Still feel very impatient but at least I'm reassured things are actually moving. Slowly!
