Creating a magical NON-PINK bedroom for DTDs (3)

After extensive consultation with two independently minded little people, we are marking the move into big girl beds (I know, have got away with cots for AGES, yay!) with a bedroom makeover. The theme is sort of enchanted woods in the moonlight. Twin Sleeping Beauties in a mystical forest, but in a Tim Burton version. With unicorns and COOL fairies not naff ones and butterflies and giant bears and a big picture of the moon, and branches with twinkly lights (hurray for discounted Xmas products) and magic toadstools and this wallpaper:

I am really struggling to find suitable bedding though in toddler bed sizes that isn't Disneyfied/pink. And anything blue (which would go with the walls) is obviously covered in trains and spaceships.

Has anyone seen anything? Or am I best just getting white and stitching on some suitably realistic rose petals or summat? But then I will never be able to boil wash...

I may be taking this all far more seriously than they are .

Not On The High Street have some lovely sets, as does Verbaudet.

Recently did my three year old DD's room. We went for a vague "things in the sky" theme, so she has rainbows on her curtains, hot air balloons on her bedding, birds on her light fitting and butterflies on her wall. Also some cool "moon and clouds" fairylights around her bed head, also from NOTHS.

Otherwise, maybe just plain white / cream and then a handmade quilt to cover it?

God that sounds awesome! I love stuff like this. I got some nice duvet covers in John Lewis for my daughter's room, but you've probably tired there. Mine were Quentin Blake / Roald Dahl themed and I love them.

They have some butterflies, but perhaps a bit pink?

Now, can I ask just how you are incorporating the giant bears?!

I know I know...am justifying the wallpaper because I'd stacked up loads of John Lewis vouchers...and the bank of PILs (I have lovely PILs, how un-MN!!!) is paying for the big girl beds...

The giant bears are the Graham & Green resin bear bedside tables but (don't tell anyone) I found them direct from the Chinese manufacturer via the interconnect.

And I forgot the enchanted hedgehog which I found in a garden centre and have spraypainted silver. Told you I was getting far too into this! Am seriously considering suspending fake vines from the ceiling too .

Am now procrastinating work by trawling through NOTHS and Vertbaudet, thank you!!!!

Also Designers Guild do a kids' range. I often find their single duvets in tk maxx for £15-25 - they're very flowery and suitable for kids without too kiddy like.

We have always had plainish children's bedding from white company- goes with any scheme, washes brilliantly at high temps. That way it doesn't matter which bedding I grab in the middle of the night after a nosebleed/vomfest!

Ooh, do you have a link to the Chinese manufacturer of the bedside tables? Your plans sound amazing. I've also had the same problem trying to locate pretty but not pink stuff for my DD's bedroom.

flowery frame

You could leave one wall wallpaper free and paint a rectangle (child height) with chalkboard paint to create a little drawing area right on the wall. And "frame" it similarly as picture. Again tk maxx and ikea have nice fake flowers

Why not skip the toddler beds, so you can just get single bedding?

We just went to proper beds for our DTDs on their third birthday

Sorry - posted too early - the bedroom had to be very carefully worked out on paper to fit the (minimal) furniture in. All the toys went in plastic boxes under the beds.

DS (6) wanted a 'garden' bedroom. After much delving, it became clear that he didn't want a bedroom with pictures of gardeny things, he wanted it to be like being in an actual garden.

So I went the for full Hilda-Ogden-realism no idea who Hilda Ogden actually is and he adores it. It has 'grassy' areas, a picket fence, vines, and bamboo clad 'den', it's amazingly naff but perfect for a 6 year old.

LOVE that wallpaper. It reminds me of the end papers in my old copy of The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe.

I was also going to suggest proper beds. The toddler beds will only last 2-3 years (unless your girls are v short).
