Creating a magical NON-PINK bedroom for DTDs (3)

After extensive consultation with two independently minded little people, we are marking the move into big girl beds (I know, have got away with cots for AGES, yay!) with a bedroom makeover. The theme is sort of enchanted woods in the moonlight. Twin Sleeping Beauties in a mystical forest, but in a Tim Burton version. With unicorns and COOL fairies not naff ones and butterflies and giant bears and a big picture of the moon, and branches with twinkly lights (hurray for discounted Xmas products) and magic toadstools and this wallpaper:

I am really struggling to find suitable bedding though in toddler bed sizes that isn't Disneyfied/pink. And anything blue (which would go with the walls) is obviously covered in trains and spaceships.

Has anyone seen anything? Or am I best just getting white and stitching on some suitably realistic rose petals or summat? But then I will never be able to boil wash...

I may be taking this all far more seriously than they are Wink.

Ikea has some nice bedding, which is gender neutral and fantasy themed.

cheapandcheerful · 22/06/2015 12:29

I got my dd some lovely owl themed bedding from dunelm mill a couple of years ago.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 22/06/2015 12:31

Well that's completely gorgeous.

We have a unicorn/cloud sticker transfer in white/blue/green/hot pink/orange on a chocolate brown wall for my BG DTs, and I have pink/orange/green owl bedding from Dunelm Mill, and neutral star print bedding from Mothercare.

TwelveLeggedWalk · 22/06/2015 12:34

Nice blue and white stars here

Pippidoeswhatshewants · 22/06/2015 12:37

Urbanara have some nice bedding.

I love your wallpaper!!

Little Red Riding Hood theme www.gingerandmay.co.uk/childrens-bedding/girls-bedding/all-girls-bedding/little-red-duvet-set-double

GoodToesNotSoGoodToes · 22/06/2015 12:41

Are you trying to give a child nightmares? Little Red Riding Hood bedding? Shock

AugustaGloop · 22/06/2015 12:42

This one is amazing from Etsy, although I don't think they do single size and it is v expensive. But definitely worth a browse there and NOTHS.

I agree with going straight to single bed if you have not already got toddle beds. We did use toddler beds (as they were converted from cot beds), although we just used single duvets which was also fine.

TheTravellingLemon · 22/06/2015 12:54

AugustaGloop sometimes if you speak to the manufacturer they will cut it to size. We did that with DS's bedding. Only cost us £5 extra and it meant it was non refundable. If they're a smallish company they might do it.

dynevoran · 22/06/2015 13:13

Love the vision. Can you come do my bedroom? This place do literally thousands of original artworks on endless different types of media....one of which is duvet covers. They only do double and queen and king but is one king size the same as two singles so you could cut in half and reseam on one side each?

Just as an example there is this one :

Could you find nice fabric and sew your own duvet covers? Then you could have whatever size you wanted, and have much more choice of fabrics.

My skills in that area are limited, but I think even I would manage a couple of small duvet covers and pillows.

stinkingbishop · 22/06/2015 19:14

Thanks so much for all these suggestions lades. Am kicking myself about the complete brain blank which meant I never even thought about just going straight to normal beds. Which given how much they like mine wouldn't have been a problem Smile. Ah well. Toddler beds already on their way so will have to stick with toddler linen.

And, yes, if I were more a capable, time-gifted sort, I might sew my own, and solve all problems, but that ain't happening!

I LOVE the etsy metallic deer ones up thread, so going to see if she can do duvet covers, and then also whether the ebay prints of deer could be made in small sizes...lovely as all the wolves/red riding hood ones are I think I may get the screaming abdabs of a night!! MIL is already convinced am going to damage them psychologically by the horror of blue wallpaper Wink.

If all that fails, will just get white and put a magical/woodland blanket on top.

And thanks a lot for the floor question. I hadn't even considered the floor! Now you've got me googling 'forest floor rug'!!!!!! Argh!!!

FauxFox · 22/06/2015 19:18

I used single duvets on toddler beds by putting them on horizontally with half folded under the mattress - better, cheaper choice of linen and the duvet will never fall off the bed or tangle up - win win Grin

AndNowItsSeven · 22/06/2015 19:22

Can't you cancel the toddler beds? If by cots on your op you actually mean cot beds then they will be the exact same size as toddler beds.

BrieAndChilli · 22/06/2015 19:37

Dd has a lovely green grass coloured rug from ikea with a mouse holding an umbrella on.

stinkingbishop · 22/06/2015 19:42

No, and no...they were cheap anyway. Plus plan is to put them in bunks in a few years and they're not big enough for that yet (she wrote, frantically justifying this all to herself).

I am loving these:

www.notonthehighstreet.com/lullabuy/product/trees-cot-bedding-set

www.notonthehighstreet.com/nordicelements/product/hedgehog-cot-bed-linen

But x 2 (and then a set for changing) is going to cost a king's ransom. So thinking maybe the bedspread is the best idea after all with some cushions or summat.

And then I can spend all the £ I've saved on a woodland floor and an actual real life unicorn and plumbed in wishing well Wink.

I've got a big bright green shagpile run from ikea that looks and feels like grass that my kids love. And it's surprisingly easy to clean (or snip off what I can't be bothered with).

HeyDuggee · 22/06/2015 20:05

Rug, not run

stinkingbishop · 22/06/2015 22:14

Plan!

Cheekychip · 22/06/2015 22:16

Lovely idea.
This is nice too but I think the one on your post is better.

You might find a few bits on this site:

Fleecyleesy · 22/06/2015 22:18

You could put them into full size single beds that are low to the ground so doesn't matter if they fall out. Beds would last longer, lots of bedding around.

I'm going to say something which I hope you don't find offensive - am just trying to be helpful. I also haven't read the whole thread. Sorry in advance. I think the wallpaper in your OP could be frightening for a young child. It looks spooky/creepy to me.

Erm I got some duvet covers with lovely woodland silhouettes in grey and white - deer, trees etc - from Primark. Werent marketed at children but I think looks really nice in a little girls bedroom. They are white on grey one side and grey on white the other.

Hobbes8 · 24/06/2015 19:55

Have you seen these mushroom lights? I love spending other people's money!
