Ikea Metod grytnas kitchen almost complete

Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 19:45

I know there are number of other mn's about to embark on an Ikea kitchen, so though I'd share our almost finished one.

First thing to say is I'm so pleased with the end result! The pics do not do it justice, it looks so much more expensive than I expected. Everything was Ikea bar the worktops and handles.

The room is really awkward, with windows and doors everywhere so we did need to compromise on things but overall we've got what we wanted.

I love my big drawers and induction hob.

Dh fitted it, he nearly had a nervous breakdown in the middle but has come out the otherside a better man, as he said "No brick wall will hold me back anymore" Grin

Still need to tile and for cornice (and get boiling tap/waste connected). Anyway any ikea metod questions in future just ask .

Looks lovely, we're planning a new kitchen in the summer and hadn't thought of Ikea.

Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 20:03

I'd recommend it for value of money. However, would definitely use a fitter next time.... another quote from dh "this is the worst 2k I've ever saved"! though now it's nearly over he's really pleased with himself.

thanks op! that is the one we've chosen! not doing anything for about a year though except saving up!

MrsJamin · 20/04/2014 21:09

Which worktop did you get in the end?

Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 21:20

It was worktop express Oak worktops 27mm. Tis gorgeous (Can't stop stroking it) we had proper fitters come in for that. They were here for 7 hours!

Looks lovely! Literally about to order!! My H will also be fitting it so I will warn him :-)!

Ooh, I have been eagerly awaiting your post since you mentioned your new kitchen on a thread a while ago. It looks really lovely, your hubby should feel really proud he has done such a great job. You may live to regret offering to answer questions as I turn into your very own kitchen stalker...

If you get a chance I would be really interested to know the size of available storage space within the various sizes of drawers please. I have - far too much- quite a few kitchen gadgets so will need to plan storage the right size for stashing it away.

Did the delivery arrive when promised? I have heard of folk being messed around and dates changed at short notice.

Did everything arrive OK in just the one delivery, or were the missing/broken items? This is a worry for me as I wouldn't be able to traipse to and fro sorting out problems.

Do you have any of the fan dangly inner storage bits? Would love to know how you are using them.

I will no doubt be back with more questions as they occur Grin

iggymama · 20/04/2014 22:09

Me again. Is there a cooker hood in the wall cabinet over your hob?

Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 22:38

Delivery arrived on time with plenty of communication. Everything was there, we didn't check it when they dropped it off but later. Had an extra couple of cupboard fronts and drawers. Nothing broken. We did end up going to Ikea to change the extractor fan cupboard for a larger one because we struggled with space and took the cupboard and drawer fronts back, which they refunded us even though we said we hadn't paid for them.

The cupboards seem massive, I've got three empty cupboards and three empty drawers!! I've had a declutter but I've still got loads of gadgets.

Yes, it is a cooker hood in the wall cabinet.

The only slight issue is because we have a tall cabinet so all the wall cabinet need to be at that height. So they are quite high for a short arse like me. I can only reach the bottom two shelves, it does make the ceiling seem much higher and makes the kitchen feel larger.

Hopefully you can see picture of inside my drawers....

Still not sorted to Mumsnet standards of course!

It looks great!
I had thought of going to mobalpa or betta living.co.uk, but will definitley look at ikea now

If you don't mind sharing: how much££?

iggymama · 20/04/2014 23:41

Impressed with your drawers!

Where did you buy your handles please?

Did you move pipes to underneath the cabinets or leave a gap behind and use deeper worktop?

Please tell me when you are fed up of questions Blush

Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 23:46

No it's fineSmile

The units were £1900 for 14, this included everything, hinges etc.
Appliances were £1800 (induction hob, oven, combi oven, dishwasher and extractor fan)
worktops £450 including cutting down and preoiling
Handles £1.60 each - they are pewter and lighter than the picture shows purchased online

OP posts:
Mrsladybirdface · 20/04/2014 23:52

handles were from this place-

www.catchesandlatches.co.uk/cup-handles-for-cabinets-traditional-shaker-style-dark-pewter-finish-ftd555pt

We dropped plumbing down, wasn't a massive issue.

Both the wall and floor cabinets are now hung from rails so as long as you can get them straight it fairly simple!

Really don't mind, feel like a Metod pioneer Grin

Oops sorry my browser is being funny!

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 21/04/2014 09:41

It looks lovely, OP.

Work on my new kitchen start in June, I'm excited and worried in equal measured. Hurrah for gorgeous new things, but worried about the disruption & seriously hoping that all of my choices work together Confused - only seen the stuff in sample sizes and online so arghhhhhh.

NinetyNinePercentTroll · 21/04/2014 09:42

Sorry for weird grammar!

Mrsladybirdface · 21/04/2014 10:25

The handles were the best bargain. I bought one set and took it to kitchen show rooms and it was absolutely the same quality if not better, but a fraction of the cost.

Thank you for the pictures.

I am getting my kitchen units delivered at the end of the week, and they are going to be fitted next week.

Badvoc · 21/04/2014 14:50

My kitchen fitting began this week!!
Dh built the units (same as yours op) to try and save some money as we need the electrics and plumbing sorting too Hmm
Dh is an engineer and pretty good at DIY etc but it took him a whole day to build the first draw unit Grin
Can't wait til it's done - I went for the dark walnut laminate and have ordered Venetian blinds in the same finish Smile
