I know there are number of other mn's about to embark on an Ikea kitchen, so though I'd share our almost finished one.

First thing to say is I'm so pleased with the end result! The pics do not do it justice, it looks so much more expensive than I expected. Everything was Ikea bar the worktops and handles.

The room is really awkward, with windows and doors everywhere so we did need to compromise on things but overall we've got what we wanted.

I love my big drawers and induction hob.

Dh fitted it, he nearly had a nervous breakdown in the middle but has come out the otherside a better man, as he said "No brick wall will hold me back anymore" Grin

Still need to tile and for cornice (and get boiling tap/waste connected). Anyway any ikea metod questions in future just ask .

Please can I ask a huge favour?

If you have chance, I would love to know the actual usable space inside the various types of drawers in your kitchen, in particular the inner height from the bottom of the drawers to the top. I would like to work out which types of things I could store in them. I hope that crockery, mugs etc. will fit in the 200mm high drawers and hopefully the bigger drawers will hold slow cookers, pressure cookers and large pans, with maybe even room for an inner drawer above them.

I realise this is a cheeky request so please just ignore me if it too much trouble. This will be my dream kitchen ( on a tight budget) and I so want to get it right.

Not a problem, as long as I have measured correctly! I've added some pictures, these are the two of the drawers under my hob which have my day to day essentials in, the saucepan cupboard normally has a few more things in it but they are in the dishwasher

The 20x60 drawers are 17x52 and the 40cmx60 are 36x52.
My 60 high x 40 wide are empty at the moment apart from a bag of pasta and chopping boards. They have an inner drawer too which is 13cm x 31cm, perfect for mugs or tea towels.

Hope that helps Smile

Thanks very much, that is a great help. I can see in the photos that they hold loads. Looking at your measurements you actually lose very little of the height of the drawer front.

I have loved looking at your kitchen porn photos, I am like a female Vic Reeves rubbing my thighs. What a sight!

I see on the far side of your kitchen you have used the shallow base units. I love this idea and may do this in my own kitchen as it is a long skinny galley.

Thank you so much, I hope I will get my new kitchen later this year.

Hi, can I ask a question about your sink? I notice that you haven't got a drainer (i.e. the more traditional style sink with attached drainer). I love the look of a more contemporary sink, but where do you drain the pots / pans etc that can't go in the dishwasher? I am of the view that I don't really care because it looks so much better, H is of the (admittedly, slightly more practical) view that we need a drainer.

Many thanks!

we've only had it plumbed in today, but we didn't have a drainer before. I get round this by putting everything in the dishwasherGrin

I really only have washing up at the weekend and have a couple of drainer clothes (not sure what they are called) they are like extra thick tea towels which I put things on, they are really absorbant.

Also, not sure if you can see in the pic but my sink is big and has a movable insert drainer so small things can go in there if need be Smile
