what was asking price of your house, and how much did you eventually payy

just made asking price offer.This seems to go against what everyone says one should do. But it had everything we had hoped for, but never thought we could afford. And its the first house we have seen for a year which we liked. We are ftb's. so all a bit scary

We were ftbs. The house was on for £226k, our first offer was £210k and we got it for £214k. This was in a popular area (good school catchment, houses selling v quickly), although last summer before the housing market went crazy.

£370,000 - we paid £365,000 but it had only recently been reduced to £370,000.

Advertised at offers over £50,000. We put in an offer for exactly that much- then there was a little wait and some talk of someone else having put in an offer and we um and ah ed about increasing the offer, and then, in the end they accepted!

Bought ours for 5k under asking price. Selling it for 10k under and buying new house at 20k under at 190.

both the same - we had been looking for several months and knew it was a good price.

1st place: 250k, bought for 249,999
2nd place: OIRO 500k, bought for 465k on the verge of the recession

It really depends on the market though - now places in our area seem to be going for OVER the marketed price.

On for 295K and bought for 249,995. That was last summer in Wales.

ours had an asking price of 250k and we haggled it down to 212k, it was the only house we liked but had been on the market for quite a while.
we sold our old home for 186k and the asking price was 195k.

£345k on for £400k.

Quite a lot less but two houses down the road we looked at are still for sale two years on, so I think it was fair.

On at 245k and offer accepted at 235k. We started with a 224k offer, then increased to 227k but didn't have the nerves to keep going so just said 235k best and final (to include white goods and curtains etc). We're ftb's and ready to move quick while the vendor has already moved so wants a quick sale which I think all worked in our favour.

Other houses in the same road have gone for 240k in the last year or so and there's another nearby that is on for 240-260k but has a bigger garden and converted attic which gave us a good idea of how high we we're willing to go. What we are paying is absolutely as high as we could go but the house felt like home and leaves us scope to add value in the future. Fingers crossed now it all goes through!

In Scotland, so offers over system (closed bids). We had to offer about twenty per cent over the asking price because the market was very fast moving and there were several other bids. I think if we were buying now we'd get away with a lot closer to asking price (although prices are up to more than what we paid so it's swings and roundabouts.) If you have a lawyer who knows the local market they should be able to advise you.

we paid £135k

we bought about 15mins after the 2008 crash, and had already agreed a similar reduction on the flat we sold. prices on my street are definitely not back in the £155k region 5 years on, so the reduction was fair.

Was on for £339k, we paid £315k having offered £300k at first which was turned down.

I've owned 3 houses and paid full asking price twice.

First house bought in boom time so we needed to pay the full price to have a hope of securing it.

Second house crash time. Advertised at £375,000. Paid £335,000.

Third house bought recently. Loved it and thought the price was fair so paid what was asked.

I loved my first house and I love this one. I will always regret buying the second place and honestly think we bought it because it was a bargain. Never liked it from the word go.

It's nice to feel you have got a bargain but there's more to a house than the price and if the price asked is fair it's fair enough to pay it.

We got ours at 7% off the asking price just over a year ago.

I think what you need to offer very much depends on the current state of the local market. From what I've read, many people are bidding over the asking prices in London at the moment. But that won't be the case elsewhere.

House was on at £125k after some wrangling re survey issues we are paying (if this all goes through) £113k.

For sale at £305k, got it for £270k. In Birmingham.

80k less than asking.

we offered the asking price and a good thing too, as I think it helped sweeten things when my flat sale fell through not once, but 4 times!

These days, in our bit of London, houses are going very quickly (2/3 days) and often for over the swooningly high asking price.

We paid the full price of 535k on a new build last year. The building company wouldn't take any money of but we did negotiate a lot of nice extra bits such as chrome switches, granite worktops, ceramic floor tiles, downlighters, landscaping, massive patio, posh carpets etc plus stamp tax paid. We part exchanged our old home ( for 25k more than the builders eventually sold it for as near a busy road) so saved the estate agent fees on that.

originally asking 300k. dropped price to 250k and we put an offer in for that price. they accepted!

Price was 77.5k. We paid 75k. Four bed house !!

On at 135k bought for 102k

Very cheeky offer but it had been on the market for ages

Bought it 8years ago, next door have just accepted an offer for 150

Impressed at the 80k below manchester (unless the house cost 1.6mill!) ant it puts my 50k below to shame (on at £530k)

I have a friend who only ever offers 100k below asking, on the basis that he'll be successful every so often!

London ex-council flat in Clerkenwell on market for 235k, bought for 191k in 2005, sold in 2013 for 295k.

Yay!

2nd house on market for 245k bought for 250k (not London), still in it. House next door in worse condition sold 3 months later for 270k.
