Can you have a look at this house, the pictures and the drawings, and tell me if it makes any sense at all?

I was wondering why they had a wardrobe in the hall but realise thats the main bedroom!

800k for an 11ft wide house. Ha ha ha.

ouryve · 28/01/2012 22:45

Notyummy - our house is almost the same size as that (though with 2 decent sized bedrooms and no silly stairs in the wrong place) and not even worth 10% of the asking price!

Rindercella · 28/01/2012 22:51

Sad John Peel

jimswife, I don't think it can be the 2nd of those houses as the first floor has 2 windows facing the street, whereas on the floor plan of the one Quint linked to there's only one window. See, that's one of the problems with not providing an external photo - there's no telling really which house it is.

If anyone is interested, while we're here playing property porn, this is the house I would buy if I had a spare couple of million. Grin

cutteduppear · 28/01/2012 22:55

More to the point - why is there a pregnant man eating a pasty on the left of the screen??

whitsunday · 28/01/2012 22:56

My parents live in a terraced house in Barnes - 1.2 million.

thenightsky · 28/01/2012 23:00

viva I think us northerners should step away from this thread. Grin

think what 800k would get us in Lincolnshire!

QED · 28/01/2012 23:02

The cushion which says "love" on the sofa is enough to make me feel somewhat ill.

QuintessentialyHollow · 29/01/2012 01:00

bibbity, I am not so far away now, just less than 20 minutes walk, eastwards! Grin

Agreed nightsky!

Lincolnshire property prices probably not a fair comparison, but one of our houses is a 3 bed terrace within easy walking distance of the Stray in Harrogate- and on the 'right' side. And within the catchment of one of the best primaries in the country (which will all mean something to those who know Harrogate Grin) And it is still only worth around a quarter of that.

In fact- Quintessentially, why don't you move to Harrogate. All the lifestyle for a LOT less. Wink

Purplehonesty · 29/01/2012 08:03

Wow it's very narrow and very expensive, but beautifully done. Layout upstairs is odd I grant you.

RustyBear · 29/01/2012 08:30

Rindercella - please tell me that awful fake book arch thing in your dream house would go if you bought it.....

VivaLeBeaver · 29/01/2012 08:53

800k would get you this in Lincs.

Rindercella · 29/01/2012 09:13

Rusty, erm, definitely. As would the awful matching curtains *and bedspread and lamp) in the main bedroom/ensuite. They are but minor details though Smile

notyummy · 29/01/2012 09:26

Hmm. Yes Viva. But it is Lincs. Sorry- I do live in Lincs, but under sufferance. There is sod all to do. It is flat. And I have to travel 1 1/2 each way to earn a salary over £50k because I'm not a doctor or teacher. Good schools though..

Yorkshire everytime.

QuintessentialyHollow · 29/01/2012 10:54

VivaLeBeaver I dont do thatched cottages and exposed black beams....

OP posts:
VivaLeBeaver · 29/01/2012 14:48

No I don't think I do either, but to be honest I was struggling to find much in Lincs that cost 800k to use as an example. Grin

I do appreciate londons more expensive, etc but can't get over what little space for such a lot of money. You could buy a much bigger property for less still in London I'm sure. I've seen threads on here where people are looking at nice Victorian semis in shepherds bush for 700k.

QuintessentialyHollow · 29/01/2012 14:49

I love the grounds of that house though!

And I do get your point about the price...

londonlottie · 29/01/2012 15:00

Late to the party, but have to say I loathe the decor in that Barnes cottage. It's GOT to be lived in by a single woman... it's all far too pink and simpering.

And horrid layout. Barnes is a lovely part of London, but it still looks overpriced to me. You don't have to travel to Lincs to get a lot more for your money elsewhere...

charitygirl · 29/01/2012 15:05

Well, the Little Chelsea cottages are tiny homes which have usually been extended to fuck (and too far, like this one) because of where there are.

I know a similar house on a neighbouring street, the stairs to the attic had to go in the master bedroom. Which was tiny in the first place!

rockdoctor · 29/01/2012 19:41

I lived in Barnes as a student - and loved it! Unfortunately this thread just reminded me why DH and I are living a 2 hour commute away from London now we have 2 DCs, missed out on the property boom due to being overseas, and can't afford anything like that.

Seriously thinking about giving up the commute and relocating back "up north"

BleatingRose · 30/01/2012 00:20

Lots of terraced homes are 11 feet wide or so... albeit without the £7ook price tag.

happyAvocado · 30/01/2012 00:43

hard to match a staircase with blue lights in them, also in Barnes ;)

QuintessentialyHollow · 30/01/2012 10:04

oooho, dont get me started on that one, happy!
It has been on the market for more than a year. They have not lowered the price.

And WHY oh why did they build a house like that. It has EVERYTHING wrong with it. Aside from the location. Wink

OP posts:
rockdoctor · 30/01/2012 16:45

I love that one, happy!

I'm keeping the link - just to show anyone who doesn't believe the London property market is sheer madness. The price tag and picture no. 8 sum it up perfectly.

londonlottie · 30/01/2012 17:12

OMG I've only just clocked that there are no windows on the entire lower floor...
