Have the Y2 SATs started already then?

I'm not making a big deal of it. Just dd mentioned today that they did a 'very hard' maths test at school and I wondered if this was a SAT? I kind of thought they'd do them after Easter.

anyone? I know it's boring. Just wondered.

Maybe it was a revision paper? Friends have told me that their children have been doing SATs revision papers already.

It's across the country. My son has just been doing some practice papers at school sounds like your dd is doing the same.

Y2 SATs can be done at any time up to mid/end June - whenever the children are ready. Teachers assess the chn's work between Jan and June and report on that. SATs tests are used to support their assessment.

There is no set week for SATs tests for Y2 - it is at the teacher's discretion, as long as their teacher assessments are sent to county on time.

Many schools introduce old SAT papers just to get the children used to the format.

I was with a yr 2 class last week while they did a 2005 paper. It was introduced simply as a "special booklet".

The literacy SAT seems to be a piece of extended writing which I think they may be doing now. Is that right?

My son has already sat a test paper as he told me his grade, I had to look it up as I hadn't a clue what it meant He just said, I did some numeracy today and I got X for it. He normally tells me he got 20 out of 20 right or 19 right, so because it was different I thought I bet he has sat a test paper.

Our school is definitely doing them 10th-14th May as we have been told in a newsletter that you cannot have that week off for a holiday.

As IAmTheEasterBunny says we know that they assess them from Jan- May and use the SAT papers to back up their assessment.

Gosh, I didn't know they told you the grade! Dd hasn't got a grade for hers but she did say she had to go to the loo to blow her nose half way through and missed 3 or 4 questions.

10 th to 14th may is KS2 SATS week. Some schools take the opportunity to carry out the KS1 SATs tests too ( and some schools don't!) However many schools do a "practice paper" around this time so the format doesn't come as a complete shock when they do sit them!

KS1 SATS can be administered at any point in the year. The children's SATS levels may not be the level they are givin in July, as they are based upon teacher assessments throughout the year. The SATS are just a small part if this.

Thanks everyone! Dd definitely mentioned that they are doing an extended literacy assessment yesterday and today so I guess that's part of the ongoing thing.

I would hope they'd be doing 'extended literacy assessments' every two / three weeks, to enable teachers to give reliable teacher assessments in June.

I think they look quite hard too! I wasn't skilled at maths, I'm still not.

Dd's teacher gave me a 'prediction' as to how she thought dd would do with the literacy SAT stuff but she was undecided about numeracy.

When they have the 'test week' as it were, they do a numeracy paper and a literacy paper? One of the reading ones? Do they do a spelling test as well and a science paper? And is the written work assessed from throughout the year? I'm thinking, they can't sit down and write a whole story can they in that week?

I think that booklet with a text and questions is for the reading assessment. I remember dd's friend last year got separate marks for:

Maths
Listening and understanding
Reading
Spelling
Writing
Science

I think with the writing one, they have to actually write something?

What happens if your child does much better in the tests than they do in the assessments?

What if a child gets a level 3 in maths test because things just fall into place where previously the dc has only scored a 2b?

When would the last assessment need to be done to prove it was more valid than the test? And how can a previous assessment take a child rapid acceleration into account?
