one question - did you all do the 7+ and then were asked by the schools to try again at 8?

Yes for us. But one of my friends' son was in the bottom quartile in KCS and SPJS writtens for 7+ and this year he has admissions from KCS, SPJS and WUS schools (going to SPJS with us). It really depends on maturity levels of the child at different ages (also summer borns, etc).
