Hi all,
does anyone know how FHG year 6 results look like this year?

Thanks a lot

I think these stats are useless for selecting a school within this list and it would be very sad for the child if parents were ignoring location, school atmosphere, outdoor and indoor facilities, etc…

It could be a tool for parents with girls in these school to assess probabilities of getting the school of their choice if their daughter is in first quarter, second quarter, etc.

If it isn’t a ranking of schools like you pretend it is not (but still you compare and rank according to results), one has to take into account all the information on a certain cohort. So yes it makes sense to separate the girls who come from different cohorts when you can.

Last when girls leave before 11+ to outside London or to other schools, the replacement girls are selected through a very selective contest (much more than 4+ or 7+).

Prefer Bute House over Falkner House Girl. It is a no-brainer.

The cohort size is larger (more opportunity to make friends), larger playground, onsite sports facilities, better prep for SPGS and obviously no need to play politics with the Falkner family...

I think the way this thread goes around in circles proves it is mainly more about which school you like best - as statistically there is little between the results.

Falkner is small and old school, parents like the rigour and tradition. It is cosy in feel and family run in a strict way.
Glendower is that traditional London feel in building but less old school. It is solid academically and takes pride in its amazing location.
Bute is more dynamic and due to the intake system has that more academic feel, balanced with the fun and amazing facilities.
Pembridge is more Notting hill smart, it has a balanced feel and the links to wetherby.

We are now the 11+ end. I think all these schools would academically give DD similar results. And all of them have similar parent bodies (all just as pushy, some flashy, some just getting on with work to scrape school feesGrin) so beyond looking for a school which rises above the ott parents - my son's school had this- and there is no favouritism, I wasn't looking at that element of social make up.

But the one we picked is where DD is really happy and she is inspired to try really hard and enjoy it. We went to her Christmas concert and it was so far from stuffy and just pure fun, getting them all involved alongside excellent standard of musical ability. I wanted somewhere with good academics but above all more picked her school for the journey, rather than the 11+ result which would always be just fine.

The location for Glendower as in facilities and space is not too great. There is virtually no outside space and the one there is is right next to the main road. It is a two form school in two buildings so space is at a premium. This was a big downside for us

What I find really interesting about these statistics is they offer you detail regarding offers and acceptances. So for the top 6 feeder schools you can deduce that, for example, there are 3 offers per place at G&L. This means, probably, that when you get to interview stage, you might think there are an awful lot of girls being interviewed for 130 places (say 450), but that you have a reasonable probability of getting an offer at this stage. That really takes the stress off when you are waiting for an offer.

I wonder if there is a high correlation between CAT scores and ISEB performance? There were girls at my daughter’s school who got offered interviews at SPGS but not G&L with same CAT score as my daughter (135+). This shows quite a lot of performance volatility….

MMmomDD · 17/01/2022 15:33

CATs and ISEB results are highly correlated.
However - with 11+ exams - there are no guarantees and lots of other factors influence the outcome.
For starters - there is a timing issue. ISEB was in the fall, while SPGS exam is later, so a bit more prep time.
The format of the tests is different, so some kids can do better with one Vs the other.
Performance on the day can also vary a lot, kids can have an off day, etc.

Good luck to your daughter! And to you.

Grandjany · 17/01/2022 16:33

Before you get interviewed, do they look at your school reference and take into account your CAT score to see if the exam data is consistent, or do the schools just look at this data as a pre acceptance/offer check?

MMmomDD · 17/01/2022 17:01

Last year, G&L specifically prioritised ISEB, so in my daughter’s school there were some girls with high CATs but lower ISEB who didn’t get to the interviews.
I think the school does it so that it’s more fair.

Grandjany · 17/01/2022 18:45

So first the ISEB hurdle then the CAT score possibly throws up some more data for them to weigh up….

Have you any idea of private bus routes from Mayfair/Belgravia to SPGS or G&L? I’ve found one for CLSG so just want more data so that if offers come in I can think it all through.

MMmomDD · 17/01/2022 23:49

Mayfair/Belgravia have quite easy/fairly fast public transport to Hammersmith. School buses usually run for longer distances.
I know it’s hard to imagine your primary school child getting around on their own - but most Y7 kids do start traveling on their own, once parents get comfortable with the idea.9

Many of the results quoted above are inaccurate. Here's many schools. Falkner, as usual, is the best:

Apologies. Sorry for the years being mixed up. Was just trying to offer people a site with all current data. All the best.

tryandcountsheep · 27/04/2022 14:06

Looking at SPGS entry:

Sorry to be thick here, but what does the (out of ) figure refer to? The girls in that year? Surely not all of them would have applied to SPGS??

Bute House 15 offers (out of 62)
Glendower Prep 9 offers (out of 34)
Falkner House 8 offers (out of 20)

londonswmum · 27/04/2022 14:09

@tryandcountsheep these represent the numbers of girls in Year 6
Bute had 15 offers, there were 62 girls in year 6 that year etc
Not all the 62 girls would have sat SPGS exams

Correct. It would be nice if we knew the application numbers 🙂

tryandcountsheep · 27/04/2022 14:25

Thank you ladies.

It's hard to break these figures down then, but I imagine there's not an awful lot between these great prep's. I'd be happy with my DD in any of them if I'm being honest.
