Teacher concerns?

Without any previous concerns about the school in general or the teacher would you be worried if you heard your sons experienced, mature teacher say the following (within the same 10 minutes) to her Y6 class?
They speak Spanish in Brazil
Hitler wanted to reunite Germany because it was divided by the Berlin Wall

You can't have it both ways jollyroger either it's the date the process begun (1989) or when it was completed .... hasn't happened yet!

I can have it the way I meant it, and you know it. The demolition of the wall began in 1990, not 1989, which makes your intervention incorrect (and a little embarrassing, given how big a deal you’ve made of it). HTH.

Norestformrz · 12/01/2020 17:45

Watch the news from the date and you'll see the wall coming down

😂 I don’t need to watch the news. I know the details of this particular period in history and have checked my facts. You are embarrassing yourself.

Norestformrz · 12/01/2020 18:04

Your facts aren't facts

thejollyroger · 12/01/2020 18:09

Norestformrz

Only if “facts”, in your mind, has some sort of new definition you came up with yourself.

Norestformrz · 12/01/2020 20:46

Facts that are recorded in history

You two need your heads knocking together!
The wall was opened in 1989, people started chipping away at it at the end of 1989 but it was officially demolished (almost all of it) in 1990.

I know!!

Bloody hell I can't believe people are still debating this.

To be fair, the idea that throughout this thread some people think couple of general knowledge errors means they are in a place to question someone's professional ability is quite concerning and debate worthy.

It's also debate worthy when it has been suggested that believing professional competency should be assessed by suitable people in the profession against the teacher standards is a sign that people in the profession lack critical thinking.

It's sadly a sign of some of the crap that gets directed to schools by any Tom, dick and Harry who thinks having an opinion is enough to be judge and jury in schools.

Personally, I'd have let it be (like the OP did) for passing comments in show and tell, but would call for a chat if it looked like there were issues in class. I'd also be willing to raise concerns with school where needed if there's issues in curriculum coverage. But some of this thread is bonkers.

Not quite sootobe60
It began with individuals chipping away but soon heavy machinery was used ...

@Norestformrz

Are you trying to say that what I've said is wrong now? Even though you've repeated it? FFS! 🤷🏼‍♀️

Norestformrz · 13/01/2020 06:47

I'm saying you were partially right ...if that's OK ...I prefer evidence.
I'm sure you like me can remember watching it unfold on the news!
