3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2018

mumteacher · 30/10/2017 00:38

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2018!) 😉

@gtijerina the one that aged me a decade was the 11+ last year. That was monstrous. Prepping DS while trying not to neglect DD. ConfusedHence the 4+ for DD as I can't do the 11+ twice really. I haven't got enough hair.Confused

Anyway, not heard yet!

lovemybabies2much · 09/01/2018 15:03

I haven't heard anything either... anyone out there received an email?

MumDad999 · 09/01/2018 15:40

Nothing yet for us either.. I heard from a friend that rejections will not hear today!

Have to admit rejection for your child, is hard to take as a parent :(

4plus · 09/01/2018 15:46

@Stareyed Totally agree! The only point of doing 4+ for us, with all bilingual disadvantages, was to avoid the horrors of 7+ and 11+.

Momof3toB · 09/01/2018 16:22

Still refreshing emails...

4plus · 09/01/2018 16:27

We just got invited for an interview... totally puzzled.

Mumteacher1 · 09/01/2018 16:28

Historically Habs have sent emails around 4:30-5:00pm to those that are being invited back for round 2. Letters should go out today for all else.

Good luck 🤞🏽

cuttey · 09/01/2018 16:29

Habs round 2 emails are out. My friend has just received hers. Good luck everyone.

4plus · 09/01/2018 16:30

@Mumteacher1 What are they looking for at the interview? Do we need to prepare?

Stareyed · 09/01/2018 16:31

Can't believe it, DD is invited back. Shock

4plus · 09/01/2018 16:32

Congratulations, Stareyed! :)

shodo · 09/01/2018 16:36

So if we haven't heard we haven't go it now ?!

Congratulations @stareyed, may I know which school is that?

bluehorizonuk · 09/01/2018 16:39

Did you all get the Habs email at 4.30?

bluehorizonuk · 09/01/2018 16:39

So if no email by now I guess it means rejection?

Stareyed · 09/01/2018 16:46

Congratulations @4plus @Matupatlu Smile

This was for Habs girls.

I've just dropped an email to confirm attendance.

MumDad999 · 09/01/2018 17:08

It's a no for us this time.. I think :(
Well done mums and DD... a fantastic achievement. All the best for round 2 :) :)

Momof3toB · 09/01/2018 18:01

A no for us too!
I had a feeling though! It was not the same feeling coming out of other assessments!

Well done to those who did! As someone said it's a great achievement for parent and child

Mumteacher1 · 09/01/2018 19:55

Round 2 at Habs as your emails say is a parent interview with Head and Senior member of staff (usually deputy). 15mins with each. There’s No further child assessment. General conversation around your child’s habits.

I’m afraid we’re back in hospital and so I may not be able to check back on this thread again so soon.

Mumteacher1 · 09/01/2018 19:57

For those that have sent PM to mumteacher
I do not have access to that account and can only check mumteacher1 account if you wish to message me there I’ll reply as and when I can.

Thank you for bearing with me.

I know from previous years, they give a small group task like make something, solve a puzzle etc. It's to look at how they interact with other kids and problem solve. There will also be lots of chit chat with the kids to find out what makes them tick. So one of the best things you can do is lots of fun activities so they have lots to talk about!
Treat the parent 'chat' like an interview. You need to be enthusiastic and really wanting the place!. Ask questions and show you have done your homework. 'When I came to the open day I was impressed with xxx- does that mean YYY'. The xxx guide describes you as yyyy- is that a true reflection.
Good luck x
