3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2018

mumteacher · 30/10/2017 00:38

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2018!) 😉

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

I did. They said they didn't rank candidates on the waiting list. I'm in total anguish TBH. I was hoping it would be over today, now I'm facing another week of all this...

4plus · 30/01/2018 12:46

Congrats pk4317! :)

Amarasmummy · 30/01/2018 12:57

We didn’t get it! Oh well! Makes it easier as I was in two minds if she would get it.. debated in my mind if I would end up putting her into something she isn’t ready for. Rest assured :)

HoverParent · 30/01/2018 13:02

Good point!

We are at an indie through school, which has an inclusive philosophy and therefore does not do the boot camp required to excel at this age level.

Had we been at a Pre-Prep, we could have taken it down a notch in terms of our study plan. The Pre-Prep parents looked unfazed by the whole experience like they already had keys to the castle, whereas we had no idea what was required. No harm done, though. It gave us a chance to consolidate learning at a very high level, to the point where it benefits us regardless of the outcome. It's like having turbo boosters now!

HoverParent · 30/01/2018 13:05

Sorry, new to this thread, seems badly coded, they could learn a thing or two from FB.

My previous message was meant as a reply to a question about provenance relating to our 7+ admission.

DD got through NLCS as well.. absolutely delighted.

Momof3toB · 30/01/2018 13:18

DD got through too!!! Post man finally turned up!!!!

We will be accepting NLCS!
Thank you everyone for all the support.
What a lovely little community this has become

MumDad999 · 30/01/2018 13:22

We are totally shocked. We didn't get a 2nd round at Habs but just got an offer for NLCS, which we will be accepting.

Congrats everyone.. so happy.

pk4317 · 30/01/2018 13:28

thanks @4plus!

I’m hoping Habs will come through for you. We will be accepting NLCS but we will have to figure the tricky logistics .. will be difficult but we can only do our best and try!

shodo · 30/01/2018 13:29

What's an 'indie' school?

Sunlight01 · 30/01/2018 13:29

Congratulations to all who got in 4+ and hoverparent at 7+ It was difficult for me to juggle pregnancy and 7+ assessment together. And I agree practice every day is the key. I am going to write a blog on 7+ assessment and it's prep for all the school I have experienced. As when I look and asked for help no one came forward and some didn't answered. After 4 year it will be DD2 for NLCS 4+

WetWipeofWonder · 30/01/2018 13:31

I think they mean an independent or private school @shodo

lovemybabies2much · 30/01/2018 13:34

We didn't get through to NLCS this year-bummed but super elated at the same time since DD got into Channing and St.Christophers. Congratulations to all that got into their top choice. This has been such an amazing experience for us and DD.

Now I'm really confused between these two schools. Any suggestions/thoughts on how to choose between this through school and prep school. Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

Thanks a ton.. and congrats again!!!

pigshavecurlytails · 30/01/2018 13:37

unless there are reasons to choose St C (geography, sibling there) I'd go for channing. don't choose the 11+ if you don't have to.

horsemadmom · 30/01/2018 13:46

pk4317 and fellow NLCS parents,
Congratulations! Don't worry about the coach. I put DD1 on the coach just after half term of autumn term (back then it was the earliest they could use it) and she loved it. Lots of attention from her coach chaperone which made her feel very grown up. She was the only reception girl on our route and loved all the 'big girls' saying hi during the day. DD2 was a new born and DS had to be got to school both ways in the opposite direction. The coach saved my sanity.
You have an amazing journey ahead and you'll look back in 14 years and marvel at who they've become.

pk4317 · 30/01/2018 14:15

THAnks @horsemadmom - I’m glad you DD enjoyed the coach! Do you mind me asking you how far her journey was? Our DD would be in the coach for 1 hour.. such an awfully long time and I have visions of her falling asleep without a doubt!! Driving with a small baby is going to be tricky hence the consideration for coach...

user1457993939 · 30/01/2018 14:31

Hi, Anyone got places on to St. Helens reserved list?

ChelseaK · 30/01/2018 14:54

Any idea how St. Helens provides the update via post or emails?
I am in the office and can't wait to get home

Lotrmummy · 30/01/2018 15:08

Hi Lovemybabies2much,

We got offers from those schools as well as SHHS. My top choice was always St Chris cos of the rave reviews and I absolutely love the school compound. The girls struck me as being very bright and happy to learn. To be honest, I'm also struggling with whether it's foolish to give up SHHS. What is your inclination?

Rexcub · 30/01/2018 15:13

Hi all we were offered a place at St Helens this morning. Very happy and stressed equally to now choose between St Helens and Chigwell which is local to us. We declined the prep schools orley farm and alpha prep. Good luck to all

user1457993939 · 30/01/2018 15:39

@ChelseaK
St. Helens sent us a post, no email till now.
But then my case could be different as we ended up on the reserved list.

horsemadmom · 30/01/2018 15:49

pk4317- DD's have a 45 minute journey. I actually found that DD1 stayed awake on the coach but fell asleep if I drove her home (even with screaming newborn and a detour to collect noisy DS). There are a lot of people to chat with on the coach.

Stareyed · 30/01/2018 17:31

Just wondering... has everyone already decided? Is anyone requesting another look around before final decisions?

Fitnessfanatic108 · 30/01/2018 18:02

@4plus I know of 4 that will be turning down habs, you’ll be ok I’m sure

Habsmummy · 30/01/2018 18:18

@fitnessfanatic 4 people! They are mad. Would jump at habs. Are they turning it down for NLCS?
