3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2018

In previous years I have started these threads to help and support all those involved in the independent school admissions process.

I wasn't going to start one this year as I know I would not be able to check back on it as regularly as I would like, which then defeats the purpose of the thread.

However, after numerous positive PM's about the threads I think it would be a shame not to start one where at least the hand holding can continue. Flowers

There are many many people who have been through the process and 'live to tell the tale' . There are also other tutors I know who read this thread and it would be great if you all could help and support and share your ideas👏🏼

(Roll on 2018!) 😉

Hi NorthLondonMummy. I was impressed that it was very engaging for the kids. My son didn't want to leave. And I think it was age appropriate - ie numbers, typical toys you would play with in a nursery and our son separated easily. However, he didn't always follow instructions and was fascinated with some toys and not with others. Not sure how that was recieved! How they make a decision totally mystifies me. Guess it boils down to the kids they feel would fit in their school. I trust their judgement on that since they know their school best.

@shopgal9 do you remember if they asked your daughter to read at Nlcs round 2

shopgal9 · 17/01/2018 20:11

yes Matupatlu she has settled well and is enjoying the school, Fitnessfanatic108 no they didn't ask her to read, they expect the girls to recognise their names, sorry don't know what else they did as DD didn't spill any beans....if nothing just make sure the girls has a biscuit before they go as the sugar will make keep them going, worked for my little one

All the best to your DDs xx

Fitnessfanatic108 · 17/01/2018 20:13

@shopgal9 thank you x.

NLondonMummy · 17/01/2018 20:19

Yes, I agree with you newmummycwharf1. There were a lot of toys and activities to distract them which was nice. I really have no clue on how they set their criteria for those toddlers they feel will fit in but like you, I would assume they have both the experience and judgment to make those "right" decisions. Having said that, however, I overheard a mother who said there were over 25 toddlers assessed this year who already have a sibling at Highgate. Although there is no sibling policy as such, and given there are only 38 places this year, one would assume this would make their decision-making process that much more difficult!

newmummycwharf1 · 17/01/2018 20:29

Wow - that's tough 're siblings!! In the rare event we do get in - slightly worried they don't have breakfast or After school club till the junior school. With 2 full time working parents- would mean we have to get some help on top of fees!! Do you know how others do it there?

Same here.. stressed all the time. Waiting for 23rd for orley results and 29th for St. Helens & NLCD round 2. I need a big fat post 😊

user1457993939 · 17/01/2018 21:16

@chelseaK yes I did go to St. Helens on Monday for round 2. It was ok I guess. She was happy to go inside and was ok when she came out. My interview went ok despite the fact that I wasn’t prepared, I was asked to showcase my daughter and then ask questions, was a bit surprised because the email just mentioned that there will be an opportunity to speak senior staff

user1457993939 · 17/01/2018 21:18

@momof3toB @matupatlu all the best ladies, I will be there as well. What time does your DDs go in?

Momof3toB · 17/01/2018 21:31

Thank you and same to you. We are at 9.30am tomorrow.

ChelseaK · 17/01/2018 21:40

Thanks user1457993939. We had 2nd round today.. my daughter was also excited to go in and happy when she came out. Waiting for the results now.

user1457993939 · 17/01/2018 21:55

@momof3toB ok, we are @10:30. Aiming to get there by 10. All the very best 😊

user1457993939 · 17/01/2018 21:59

@chelseaK that’s amazing 😊
do you know if St. Helens send an email with results before posting the final offer. The suspense and the wait is killing me.

ChelseaK · 17/01/2018 22:22

No idea. I should have asked them. I think it is mentioned on their website as 29th they will post the replies. I know it's just a wait and watch game now

Fitnessfanatic108 · 17/01/2018 22:32

The final offers will be via post on 29/1 so you will receive on 30/1 - not email xx.

user1457993939 · 17/01/2018 22:59

@Fitnessfanatic108 thanks
Long wait 😢

Stareyed · 18/01/2018 07:08

Good luck to the NLCS round 2 today! Smile Deep breathing, mummies.

Mine has already taken one look at my offerings and done her "well I'm not wearing that!" We are off to a good start then Wink

Momof3toB · 18/01/2018 08:03

@user1457993939 if you see a crazy anxious Irish woman with eye bags in the waiting room - that's me! Come say hi!

@NLondonMummy -- I am not too sure how full-time working parents manage but I would assume they would have to rely on a full-time nanny or childminder? Yep, additional costs indeed! Good luck by the way :)

user1457993939 · 18/01/2018 13:56

@Momof3toB
Not sure if it was you in the white jumper? Daughter with a star clip? If yes then we spoke and If not sorry I missed you 😢 and hope ours daughters get through together

user1457993939 · 18/01/2018 13:58

@Matupatlu
my DD didn’t tell me anything but knowing her, I too felt it was too exhaustive and challenging that she doesn’t want to talk about it. Good luck to all of us

I was in a black roll neck jumper.
DD also walked out exhausted too. She won't say much but she said it was fun.

That's a wrap for us now! Assessments done! Let the waiting game begin.

DD can sit in front of paw patrol and peppa pig for the next six months
