WUS, CC and KCJS 7+/8+

Starting this thread for those sitting the 7+/8+ for these schools. Have found last few years' threads useful in understanding the process as a newbie; and now that it is our turn, thought we can exchange notes or have an idea of when the dreaded letters/emails arrive!

All the best for this week and the next.

Thanks...he got Wetherby so some stress relief there.
We didn't apply to CC - their offers come out Friday right? I guess we will have to sit tight until next week...

Michaelahpurple · 27/01/2016 08:36

Curiously quite a lot of boys who got Wus didn't get wetherby

S999 · 27/01/2016 08:56

Oh my goodness what does that mean?!! I'm going to call shortly to get the lowdown on how many on the 'relatively small waiting list' and what place we are at...

S999 · 27/01/2016 10:13

Ok I found it even less than I already knew! Registrar wasn't available so have to wait for her to email us when she's free. Torture....

SuperWorried · 28/01/2016 09:50

Michaelahpurple,
Any idea of the chance for 7+ reserve list? I was told it would be around 10 this year, which sounds a lot. Thanks.

S999 · 28/01/2016 10:03

It's 10 for the 8+...was told DS is in the top third, I am a wreck...

amyson · 28/01/2016 10:25

It's a no for us from KCJS. Very sad for DS as he only sat for one school and worked really hard. Not sure how to break it to him as he loved the school.

firsttimer08 · 28/01/2016 10:32

Sorry to hear that Amy. I know how heartbreaking it can be especially knowing they have all worked hard for the exams. I feel awful for having put my DS through this process knowing that others his age are just enjoying their childhood while he was doing bond papers.

Things have a way of working out though so hopefully you will be successful next year or at another entry point. Do ask them for feedback as I know last year they provided marks on each paper.

Thanks, firsttimer. Thing is he came out so confident so hope it does not knock his confidence overall.

How soon do you think I can email them? I'm assuming it is the headmaster email at the bottom?

firsttimer08 · 28/01/2016 11:01

Maybe call up the admissions office. Last year they were quick to provide feedback to a friend. It's worth trying now and if they are busy with the admissions process they will tell you to call later on.

KCW headmaster called personally to offer a place. Such a special touch. Is it a common practice at that school?

S999 · 28/01/2016 15:32

Sorry amyson the whole process Is hideous...it really is a rollercoaster of emotions, let's hope waitlist move!

Jumpmagicjump · 28/01/2016 16:46

Interesting if HMs are phoning their "top picks". Haven't heard this before and wonder if it is intended to combat the overriding sway of geography (i.e. you are overwhelmingly likely to pick the school with the easiest journey). As a parent it is far more appealing when you have met the HM, he has interviewed and seems to know and be interested in/appreciative of your son than one where you receive a standard letter out of the blue, even if that school is on your doorstep.

Mominatrix · 28/01/2016 19:43

We did not receive a phone call, but did get a hand written note - but this was many years ago!

TennisMom · 28/01/2016 19:44

DadAmongMums, how far from KCS do you live? Trying to gauge whether Jumpmagic's theory of "sway of geography" is a factor behind the call.

DadAmongMums · 28/01/2016 20:31

TennisMom, indeed we currently leave a bit far from the school, so that explanation is plausible. Feasible by public transport, but we were prepared to move as longish commute is not nice in our experience. That said, we are not particularly closer to any other schools mentioned in this thread, though KCW probably didn't really know where else we applied.

DadAmongMums · 28/01/2016 20:32

"live a bit far"

Proudmum5 · 28/01/2016 20:58

Hello everyone, I have been reading your thread and it helped a lot during this stressful time, thank you.. I finally managed to join.
My son sat KCJS and is on the reserve list.. It is our first choice school but having to wait another week - 10 days is hard!
It is of course difficult to predict how much the list will move next week but does anyone know how big the reserve list tends to be? Also do they call the day after the offers have to be accepted, 5th Feb or after? This is a long and difficult process, wishing everyone luck and all the best for their children.. Thank you

DadAmongMums · 28/01/2016 21:45

Hang in there, Proudmum. I have no idea about the length of the list or when they tend to call, but I definitely expect some movement soon due to people getting multiple offers.

Proudmum5 · 28/01/2016 21:52

Thank you DadAmongMums. I wish we could get a sense of the size of the list and where we are.. Fingers crossed! Congratulations to your son.

S999 · 28/01/2016 23:18

Are you all 7+ or 8+?

Proudmum5 · 28/01/2016 23:23

I think it is mixed on this thread.. But I was referring to 7+ waiting list for KCJS..

S999 · 29/01/2016 00:18

Good luck to everyone, seems like next week will be the decider fornus following Colet Court offers going out this weekend...

timeforachangeofusername · 29/01/2016 07:08

Proudmum5 - we got a place through the reserve list at KCJS. They called us on the day of the deadline. My understanding last year is they do over-offer because of multiple offers but there is definite hope!

Proudmum5 · 29/01/2016 09:00

Thank you timeforachangeofusername, that is really encouraging.. Good news that they don't make you wait long after the deadline. I trust that if it is meant to be, it will happen.. Waiting fingers crossed!
