WUS, CC and KCJS 7+/8+

Starting this thread for those sitting the 7+/8+ for these schools. Have found last few years' threads useful in understanding the process as a newbie; and now that it is our turn, thought we can exchange notes or have an idea of when the dreaded letters/emails arrive!

All the best for this week and the next.

Sorry S999- I thought you were waiting for KCJS like me - best if luck with WUS! Do let us know please, hopefully good news..

Anyone waiting on 7+ reserve list for Kings?

S999 · 04/02/2016 22:05

Anyone hear anything?

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:00

We still haven't heard!! Has anyone else had a call or email from WUS?

Proudmum5 · 05/02/2016 09:00

Nothing yet.. Praying for that phone call today.. Don't think there will be much chance later if it doesn't happen today. Fingers crossed!

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:15

I have a feeling all the reserve offers are out for WUS and obviously we are not one of them despite being in the top third...

SuperWorried · 05/02/2016 09:21

S999 and Proudmum5, I heard 8+ exams were held on the same day for WUS and CC. So unlike 7+, it's less likely for boys to get both WUS and CC 8+ offers. Best of lucks for today! Perhaps try calling the office if you can get through?

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:26

The registrar is not in today, we did try...I think that's our answer...will have to wait until next week to see it in writing...

NoLongerWorried · 05/02/2016 09:28

BTW, S999, it could also be that the schools are still waiting for some late arrival of deposit post, as was the case with Colet. We were told of this yesterday as we query the school about acknowledgement of DS's 7+ confirmation. So there's still hope for you today I believe.

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:30

But why would they say the registrar is away?
If people have sent in deposits it means they're taking the place right?

TubThumper8 · 05/02/2016 09:32

The WUS 7+ reserve list was finally filled yesterday at 2pm or so. The registrar had invited us to phone them every day this week for an update on how many acceptances / rejections they had had, which I thought would be helpful, but in retrospect I'd strongly advise anyone on that (or any other) reserve list just to sit tight and wait until the deadline expires - as others have said, some people really do wait until the last minute to reject a place.

In fact, given we were only called a couple of hours after the 12pm deadline, it may be that some parents didn't even bother reverting and just let their offers lapse.

I must say, the stress of the last week has been worse than anything I've had to undergo for jobs, exams or university: the wait as hope ebbs away with every hour that you haven't been called...

Bon courage for those going through it in the future. Best just to hunker down and assume you won't hear anything until around the deadline.

NoLongerWorried · 05/02/2016 09:37

S999, you meant WUS instead? I can't believe the registrar would be away for such important admission days. To clarify, it's the acceptance form AND deposit that the registrar was waiting for. Not just deposit I was referring to. So please do keep hoping for the best. Good luck!

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:39

The deadline for 8+ was the same I think - yesterday at noon and we didn't hear anything...and today we were told to call back on Monday.
i know its not over until we have it in writing but I'd say we can assume quite safely a miracle would be needed now....

S999 · 05/02/2016 09:40

Yes she's away - we were told -
Call back on Monday. I'm so upset....

NoLongerWorried · 05/02/2016 10:03

S999, really feel for you and wish you and your little man all the best. Still can't believe the registrar is away. Wouldn't it be better if they could simply tell where exactly (or even roughly) you sit in the current list which will make life so much easier for all those anxiously waiting parents and kids.

Proudmum5 · 05/02/2016 10:05

S999- I share your pain.. I have been told that Kings has given offers to boys on the reserve list last night :( And everyone reacted positively. Now it will be a small miracle for us to get that call, only if someone was waiting on CC reserve or someone who reacted positively on the phone but does not send the forms next week.. Very unlikely for us sadly.. We only took KCJS exam because we were sure it is the best school for our son but now another year of prep awaits us.. Sigh..

TennisMom · 05/02/2016 10:10

nearlythere7plus: did you get off the WL for Habs 7+ in the end? When is the deadline for Highgate and the WL shut down?

S999 · 05/02/2016 10:15

Oh proudmum we are in the same boat then...what's your next choice?

Proudmum5 · 05/02/2016 10:30

S999 thank you, at least there is someone to understand the stress and dissapointment.. Our prep goes until 13 so we will stay there, try the 8+ with more schools and if not 11+. What about you?

S999 · 05/02/2016 10:34

We have wetherby and dulwich, leaning towards the latter...

1Dadhere · 05/02/2016 10:57

For those on CC wait list, been told now that a child in my son's class with offers from both has just turned down CC, opting for KCJS. So a spot should open up on the CC WL.

Proudmum5 · 05/02/2016 11:15

S999-both great schools! We need to believe that whatever is best will happen for them, whereever they will be happiest.. It was great to share this experience with you all, couldn't have kept my sanity without the support, thank you :)

S999 · 05/02/2016 11:25

I agree proudmum, we have to be philosophical about it all...
I have to say, having a daughter in a massively academic london school, I know the stress of some mums whose girls are struggling. We don't need that...best for my DS to be a big fish!
You have all been wonderful and lets see, it's not over til the fat lady (me!) sings!

TubThumper8 · 05/02/2016 11:26

S999 - why are you leaning to Dulwich over Wetherby? We're considering Wetherby ourselves; any specific concerns?

S999 · 05/02/2016 12:24

No concerns at all! Wetherby is fabulous. My DS loved Dulwich that's all and I was bowled over my the staff and I had a gut feeling (but then I had that WUS too!)

nearlythere7plus · 05/02/2016 14:39

TennisMom, sadly nothing from HABS. Looks like we will go with Highgate. I am guessing HABS made enough offers to account for the few dropouts.
