3+ 4+ 5+ 7+ support thread 2014

I started the below thread last year and have had so many people find it useful I thought it might be worth doing it again.

I have had a number of messages asking if I have any spaces in my classes. I'm really sorry but I have been at full capacity for some time now.

However, I do appreciate that this is a very stressful time of year for parents who have children sitting these private school assessments in January 2013. So, I'm hoping that by setting up this support group thread I can help by answering some questions you have about these assessments.

Hopefully this thread will also contain some useful insight from the experiences of parents who have already been through the process.

missimperial, was it by post or email?

Faithmum02 · 14/01/2014 10:51

Hello everyone. First to say thank you for the author of this thread; it's amazing. Please is there anyone who went for the Habs 4+ last wed and has still not heard back?

Also have the 2nd round for St. Helens 4+ plus tom, please is there anyone that went today that can give some insight?

Many thanks

missimperial · 14/01/2014 10:55

Chann

missimperial · 14/01/2014 10:56

Channing we received by post . We were at Habs last Wed - still no news yet

PinkAngels2 · 14/01/2014 11:16

Habs normally call some girls back straight away and then stagger some over the next week or 2. My DD1 heard by post 4 years back - but now from these threads understand emails are the norm?

Muzma · 14/01/2014 11:36

We haven't heard anything so far! Email or post!!
Good luck to thirst who made to round 2, very well done to the mums and kids!
Horsemadmom your posts are always very detailed and helpful so many thanks for that! We got a no from nlcs, were disoppointed but the school knows best! Will def try at 7!

angelicfaces · 14/01/2014 11:36

Pinkangels2, faithmum02, DD was also at habs 4+ on weds, still no news either.

MiaJasmine · 14/01/2014 12:18

Mums, thanks so much for replying to my post re St Helen's, all done now. For those doing the second round, it's one to one with the head or deputy head of LSH in the senior school building. You and another parent meet the deputy head of the whole school to ask any questions. Dd was, as per usual, completely clammed up about the assessment. All I managed to get was that she and the dep head played lots of games - something to do with a rainbow/colours?! So frustrating!!! Do the teachers make them take a vow of silence over the whole thing?!?? Confused

Destiny06 · 14/01/2014 12:43

Can anyone tell me what to expect for Channing round 2 please????

booble · 14/01/2014 12:48

Hi Mumteacher, wish i'd found you earlier, my daughter has just done some 4+ assessments and my son has just done 7+ at habs. Haven't heard anything back from habs other than he found it hard. How did everyone else find it? My daughter hasn't heard from habs 4+ last friday, either, has anyone else.

Destiny06 · 14/01/2014 12:50

Missimperial did ur child get called for round 2?

Faithmum02 · 14/01/2014 13:11

Thank you for the responses

Mk123 · 14/01/2014 13:18

Yes mumteacher , my daughter has got thru to the 2nd round at habs. Thats why I am asking you to tell me if you can how to prepare or myself for the interview. Thanks in advance.

missimperial · 14/01/2014 15:24

Destiny06 - yes back for round 2. No idea what to really expect - more baking hopefully ;-) Still recovering from the NLCS news and holding on for Habs...

coldatchristmas · 14/01/2014 17:03

Does anyone know the ratio of those that get offered a place at nlcs out of the ones that get called back? Thanks!

PinkAngels2 · 14/01/2014 17:25

Believe they can 90-100 girls back.
40 spaces for Reception
I'm sure mumsteacher will have the right info if the above is incorrect.
Good luck x

mumteacher · 14/01/2014 17:45

Pinkangels you're spot on ;)

Round 2 Habs girls 4+ is similar to that at St. Helens in that girl with deputy and parents interview with Head. Don't think it's just all about how your dd does the parent interviews carry weight (they wouldn't waste their time otherwise now would they ). Be prepared with questions. Make sure your dd is ready and willing to answer questions about home/school life.

hi there, this thread is reassuring me slightly. Feeling sick with anticipation as still waiting to hear from Habs. Any views on Aldenham Prep?

Mk123 · 14/01/2014 18:13

Many thanks mumteacher. But still no clue questions regarding what, will be asked from parents? Bewildered still.

mumteacher · 14/01/2014 18:44

I completely understand this is a stressful time of year for many parents however, after results came out yesterday I'm snowed under preparing for round2. I will check in on this thread as often as I can (at least once a day). However sending me PM after PM won't get a reply any sooner I'm afraid x

mumteacher · 14/01/2014 18:46

Mk123 you should go with questions to which you want answers. The head isn't going to be asking you questions - it's not a quiz on how well you know your child or their school!

Had South Hampstead second round today... Anyone know when we hear back?

stikmatix · 14/01/2014 20:23

What MiaJasmine has said about St H is new. No parents meeting with any staff at the second round last year. I think it is an opportunity for parents to find out more about the school, ask any questions they didn't have the chance to earlier etc. I doubt it's a grilling/parental interview!

Faithmum02 · 14/01/2014 21:11

Please from anyone's experience how many girls are called back for St. Helens 2nd round and out of those called, how many are offered a place?

mumteacher · 14/01/2014 21:52

Stikmatix you're right it is a new structure for round 2 at st H this year, however although not a 'grilling' def worth parents being prepared.
