Ours go to the IOW for a week, our school is in NW London so it's around 100 miles.
I thought this was quite cool as it's almost overseas but I know a few people who think it's too far away and for too long.
How far away do your year 6s do, and for how long?

kennythekangaroo · 18/02/2012 11:00

France for 7 nights.

ragged · 18/02/2012 11:00

Derbyshire, which is 3-3.5 hours travel each way. They leave Monday 9am & arrive back Friday 4pm.

dlady · 18/02/2012 11:00

We're in S. Yorks and ours go to a holiday house in Filey, about 2hrs away.

piratecat · 18/02/2012 11:01

COCKadoodledooo · 18/02/2012 11:04

roisin · 18/02/2012 11:07

Ours go to the Lake District, only about 1.5 hrs away.
They have a fantastic time.

simpson · 18/02/2012 11:08

Our Yr6 go to the IOW too, Mon-fri.

Sposh · 18/02/2012 11:09

Torrington, Devon. About 2 hours away (except motorway delays meant it took 4 hours to get home Hmm ) Monday to Friday.

SandStorm · 18/02/2012 11:10

Mon - Fri
Wales
5.5 hours away but we take all day to get there with plenty of stopping places.

mrz · 18/02/2012 11:13

I've taken our juniors (y4-6) to the IOW (Kingswood) and we are 350 miles away a real adventure for them

holidaywoe · 18/02/2012 11:14

Ours do the Lakes and its about 3 hours drive from here and they do Mon -Fri.
Some parents fret about residentials no matter how near or far they are.
Ours school does residentials from year 2 upwards so the kids take it all in their stride.

The go to Pembrokeshire. We are in Eastern England.

ByTheSea · 18/02/2012 11:16

And they leave Monday morning and return Friday evening.

Paris (long weekend) and Cyprus (heavily subsidised by the Cypriot Church - it's a Greek Orthodox School) The Cyprus trip is 5 days but is cheaper than the Paris one.

DS1 did the Cypriot trip in Yr6 and loved it. DS2 would have loved it but for various reasons couldn't go Sad

Faverolles · 18/02/2012 11:17

East Barnby near Whitby (about 2 hours away from home)

CointreauVersial · 18/02/2012 11:19

We are in Surrey, and ours do IOW in Year 5 for 3 days, then France in Year 6 for 5 days.

COCKadoodledooo · 18/02/2012 11:21

Actually just checked distances and it's more like 4.5 hours, Hampshire to the Peak District.

DaisySteiner · 18/02/2012 11:24

About an hour away (enabling the odd parent to come and 'rescue' their homesick child Hmm )

Voidka · 18/02/2012 11:25

Our Yr5's go to a YH in the Peak District
DS has just come back from a PGL adventure week - he is in year 6.

empirestateofmind · 18/02/2012 11:29

Ours fly for 5 days from Singapore to Borneo. They spend one night in an Iban longhouse and the others in a hotel.

TeaOneSugar · 18/02/2012 11:30

IOW from Derbyshire for year 5 and year 6, it's about 6 hours.
