Where do your year 6s go for a residential trip?

Ours go to the IOW for a week, our school is in NW London so it's around 100 miles.
I thought this was quite cool as it's almost overseas but I know a few people who think it's too far away and for too long.
How far away do your year 6s do, and for how long?

not the same Cockadoodle, I'm in Norfolk. :)
Googlemaps says the drive is more like 4-4.5 hours (shows how little I know).
y5s get a 2.5day residential trip 15 min. drive away.
y4s get a sleepover in the school field or hall.

France for 6 nights. From Surrey. I am nervous about it I admit but seems to have been going on for many years without incident.

CointreauVersial · 18/02/2012 11:47

I am never nervous about the DCs going away without me. This summer, DD1's France trip coincides with DS1's Year 7 trip to Germany. DH and I are already thinking about what to do with our week of peace and quiet!

We're in Derbyshire years 3 and 4 go here and years 5 and 6 go here not far at all tbh.

Ours (Belgian school) go skiing in Switzerland for 2 weeks!!!!!!!

I feel slightly sick at the thought - but luckily have a few years to go.....

finsophmum · 18/02/2012 14:01

Oh dear, ours go 15 minutes down the road to Culzean Castle for a school week. You know what they all love it!

bagpuss · 18/02/2012 14:05

Conwy mon-fri in year 6, but years 3-5 do 2 nights at the same place during the same week. We are in Cheshire.

Tiggles · 18/02/2012 14:06

Our year 5 and 6s (and 4s if space) go to an outward bound type place in Snowdonia, about hour and a half away, for three days. I would be happy for DS to go further and for longer if it were needed, but they love where they go so there isn't any need.

Isle of Wight too. Live in the south west of England.

banditqueen · 18/02/2012 15:12

IOW for a week (W London). I'm glad someone started this thread, I've been wondering about the cost of it and the length of time away - £300 here...

Shropshire from Surrey, another school does Wales in year 5. (DCs school does 2 nights camping 6 miles away in year 4, 3 nights in Dorset year 5, then 4 nights in Shropshire in year 6).

Porto my mum's friends lived in Belgium when I was small and we went to stay with them. Her DD had just got back from their 2 week skiing trip in Switzerland but her school said that to save luggage space they all had to travel in their ski kit! So she had to bus from Brussels to wherever they were skiing in salopettes and giant jacket Hmm. She had a super time and I remember thinking she must be incredibly grown up to go such a long way and not be scared.

Our year 6's go to London for 4 days, an hour and a half by train. They also go, along with year 5 to Kingswood in Norfolk, about 2 hours away. Years 3 and 4 go to a local environmental centre about 20 miles away!

Ingles2 · 18/02/2012 16:32

We're in Kent and our yr 6's go on an outward bound trip to Snowdonia for 7 days.
Ds1 went last year and had a fantastic time, Ds2 is looking forward to it this year.

dandelionss · 18/02/2012 17:42

East barnby on North york moors near whitby I think

WMDinthekitchen · 18/02/2012 17:46

Monday to Friday, 60 miles to a place in Perthshire. Both my girls loved it! Would have been happy for them to go 200 miles if necessary. Neither was a homesick type.

OddBoots · 18/02/2012 17:49

Our Y5s go on a M-F trip to a residential centre/farm owned by the LEA - it works well as it isn't a very well off area so this means more children can afford to go as it is a much cheaper option than other residential trips.

Shoopaloop · 18/02/2012 17:54

Mon-Fri, an hour away from London, where we live.

pointythings · 18/02/2012 17:59

Yr 5 - DD1 went to Hilltop in Norfolk - we are in Suffolk. Yr6 - she went to IOW, 4 days 3 nights.

DD2 is in Yr 4 and she is going to Finborough Hall in Suffolk in may for 2 nights - it's her first school residential trip, but DD1 has loved all hers.

pigsinmud · 19/02/2012 08:29

They go to Paris from Mon-Fri - we are in Surrey.

teacherwith2kids · 19/02/2012 09:48

Torquay, 4 nights - from West Midlandsish.

DS, Year 6, raring to go - but then he's done Cub pack holidays and Cub and Scout camps so despite being an only-just-getting-there bedwetter with mild ASD it's not an experience he's at all worried about.

sue52 · 19/02/2012 17:48

DD1 Paris for 4nights. DD2 Amsterdam for 3 nights.

member · 19/02/2012 17:50

Osmington Bay nr Weymouth, we are in Wilts so not too far.

snowball3 · 19/02/2012 18:06

I just wonder how much these cost!
Our 4 days in London costs £150 including travel, accomodation, food, theatre trip, meal out and entry to 2/3 attractions. This is about as much as our parents can afford!
