All a bit quiet considering today we find out about primary school places

Just thought it was quite strange that here and in the media, it's been rather quiet, considering there is a significant shortage of places and many of my friends throughout the area didn't get first choices (mainly in Bristol City, I'm out in South Glos and have been OK).

How did everyone get on?

I think it is because it has already happened for most people in the UK. I'm in Bristol too and am surprisingly nervous, even though dd2 is a sibling so we should be fine. Have your Bristol friends had their emails already then? I haven't heard yet?

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 26/04/2011 12:33

yes, it's quiet because some authorities notified as early as the start of March. hope you guys get the places you want.

Sidge · 26/04/2011 12:38

We don't find out until Thursday.

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 12:43

Oh that explains it, I thought it was today for most authorities.

I have had my e mail for South Glos and my friends in Bristol City checked online (not sure they've actually had a mail yet).

I had never even thought about it this year

stupid me

just got a complete surprise just now when the post came lol

Lollyheart · 26/04/2011 12:45

I find out on Thursday aswell.

I'm praying ds gets into the same school as dd.

peeriebear · 26/04/2011 12:46

I looked online for mine today, DD2 got into our first choice- unsurprising as it's about 100m away from our house.

Bumperlicioso · 26/04/2011 12:46

Found out by letter on Saturday in north glos.

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 12:49

Mindy - do you know how they checked online - I can't find a way to do it!

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 13:01

Find out tonight at 8pm

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 13:02

runoutofideas - I'll check and let you know...

I saw your thread pinkjenny, fingers crossed.

Thankfully we find out on the morning.

DiscoDaisy · 26/04/2011 13:04

Found out at 8.30 this morning that DD3 has got into the same school as DD2. It wasn't a certainity as we live out of catchment so didn't take priority with the sibling rule.

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 13:14

Sorry, totally confused! South Glos you can check online and you are right, Bristol City is e-mail. Good luck, the oversubscription statements on the Bristol City site are bonkers! For example, Sefton Park could only give catchment places up to 560 metres away, oversubscribed by 4 to 1.

I have been extremely lucky with all my three

they all go to a school 3 miles away, not in my catchment

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 13:23

Congratulations DiscoDaisy!

Just spoken to a friend, whose friend's little boy hasn't been allocated any of their three choices, just offered a place somewhere else. And not at the closest school to them.

I am so confused.

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 13:27

Thanks for letting me know Mindy. Have just looked up dds school and there were 47 siblings (which should include dd2) and 43 on distance which was 617m. The worst I have seen so far was Henleaze with 66 siblings for 90 spaces and the ones on distance had to be within 404m. Bristol looks like it is going to be a complete mess for a lot of people this year. Good luck to anyone still waiting and congratulations to those who are happy!

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 13:27

Wow PinkJenny, that's really tough - I had no idea until I looked on the Guardian Online at an article earlier this month just how short we are on places this year.

I didn't get anything in the post regrding DD3. Is there a website to find out on ?

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 13:29

Crikey Runout that really is insane - I was quite surprised that Elmlea had a catchment as large as 600m! - although as all houses in that area are probably £1m+, it's quite a selective catchment Wink

We got where we wanted - not too difficult as DS has an older DD in the school. Its not our local school and we have to pass 6 other primary schools to get there!!

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 13:32

androbbob - I am sooooo glad you are here, I am absolutely sh*tting it!!

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 13:34

Have PMed you.

Runoutofideas · 26/04/2011 13:43

Just had the email and dd is in - not surprising but still relieved. If she'd been our first child we would have been too far away. (BTW our house is definitely not worth anywhere near £1m! Grin )

BettyButterknife · 26/04/2011 14:04

I did not get any of my choices. 1st choice, where ds is in preschool, has a catchment of 187m. We live 220m away. We are in Bristol too. Devastated. Considering home schooling while we sit on waiting list.
