All a bit quiet considering today we find out about primary school places

Just thought it was quite strange that here and in the media, it's been rather quiet, considering there is a significant shortage of places and many of my friends throughout the area didn't get first choices (mainly in Bristol City, I'm out in South Glos and have been OK).

How did everyone get on?

Betty - I'm so sorry, 187m?! I'm slightly baffled that when the birthrate figures from the ONS came out back in 2007 that they didn't start planning the provision of extra classrooms then. Not realistic to build new schools in such a short time but extensions certainly. Although I suppose it's hard to commission new building when there's no money in the pot!

Home schooling is certainly on the rise - I believe in the Filton area it's become quite common as the school everyone wants there is utterly oversubscribed

We found out a week ago. DD got into a school out of catchment. There are 3 closer primaries.

There are no oversubscribed schools here though. Maybe you should all move here? We have the opposite problems. Schools struggling to remain open.

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 14:15

I can't seem to find any information about subscription numbers for last years intake. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 14:20

This is where I found the Bristol City stuff but couldn't find the equivalent for South Glos...

We don't find out til next week here :(

Shannaratiger · 26/04/2011 14:25

I hear on Thursday as well for Hampshire, I'm starting to get worried now although our flat backs onto the school and sibling goes their but is over subscribed. Sorry for those who didn't get your choices good luck with your appeals.

BettyButterknife · 26/04/2011 14:38

I'm just so furious that it's even presented as a choice when I wouldve been offered the same if I hadn't done the tours, read the reports etc - might as well not have even bothered filling in the form.

Where we live is a total mess. Second choice catchment 377m, we are 526m. Third choice catchment 410m, we are 482m.

Where's the choice??

I wish I could find the bloody information!

puffling · 26/04/2011 14:52

For our school nursery there were 27 siblings for 30 places. Consequently one child living less than a minute's walk from the school didn't get in. The road is jammed with cars collecting kids who live some distance from school whilst local children who could walk there are unable to get a place.

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 14:52

Giddypickle, that's why I really didn't take it for granted as I have one dd and all her friends at preschool have siblings so I really wasn't sure - very lucky that I happen to live very close to our chosen school

Lancashire, GiddyPickle. School is in Aughton, West Lancashire.

androbbob · 26/04/2011 15:06

PJ - I cant find the infor anywhere on Lancs website - it must be there somewhere! (can you tell I have nothing better to do today - am at home!)

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 15:08

androbbob - I am at work! I'm just sitting here flapping.

tallulah · 26/04/2011 15:20

Mindy which school did you get? We applied for C Rd (I'm assuming that was the one you meant from one of your other posts) and didn't get in. We did get our second choice, which DH actually preferred.

MindySimmons · 26/04/2011 15:23

No C Rd is where my friend was hoping to get in but is as FH instead. We are out in Winterbourne - all oversubscribed but if you live in the village itself, you are fine

How do you appeal? Sounds like we live in a black hole. Will do waiting list unless we have grounds for appeal (but what are they?).

Thanks ever so much for looking, GiddyPickle and androbbob. I guess I'll just have to wait 4 hours!

tallulah · 26/04/2011 15:57

We got FH too. We are midway between the two schools- I think it was 0.51 miles to C Rd and 0.5 to FH. Can only assume not so many people applied to FH Smile

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 16:05

If you applied online - what does the form look like confirming your place? Is it fiddly and complicated? Just wondering if I will be able to view it on my BlackBerry.

MrsMoppet · 26/04/2011 16:24

Gggrrrr, our primary school allocations are supposed to be visible online today "from 4pm" according to the website (Bournemouth).

WELL IT'S 4.23 PM NOW AND THE INFORMATION STILL ISN'T AVAILABLE!!!!!

There is a shortfall of 300 places in Bournemouth this year, hence my teeny overreaction ...

Pinkjenny · 26/04/2011 16:26

Aaaaaaarrrrggghhh, I won't be able to view the place online because the application has been passed to Sefton.
