Does your preteen dd wear sandals?

Because mine refuses to!

She is 10. Last summer she mostly wore converse hi-tops, this year it's Adidas superstars which are pretty much her only out of school shoes.

We're going to Europe on holiday in August, it's going to be hot. When I broached the subject of sandals with her, she said 'no way' (and that's for ANY sandals).

Her feet are going to be very hot in trainers. Are sandals seen as really uncool now??

Oh dear God, I saw someone wearing fluffy sliders the other day - I did a Hmm face. Didn't realise it was a thing!

Addidas sliders have been cool around here for ages but with adults. I'm in east London, so I guess it is a really hipster thing....

PicaPauAmarelo · 09/07/2017 15:51

Yes, she'll wear havianas and ipanemas but not sandals. We're in Brazil though, but having said that she's not allowed to wear sandals or flipflops to school, even in the middle of summer in 40 degrees, she's in either shoes, converse low tops or trainers. Kids are less affected than we are.
Would she wear slip on shoes, flipflops or low tops?

Madeyemoodysmum · 09/07/2017 22:13

Mine wears primary sandals of her choosing. They are cheap so I don't mind if she doesn't wear them that much but I think a must for holidays.

Madeyemoodysmum · 09/07/2017 22:14

Primark. Not primary!!

BarchesterFlowers · 09/07/2017 22:16

Keens and Tevas here but she has had them every year since she could walk.

Some of the Tevas are lovely for non active wear too.

BrieOnAnOatcake · 09/07/2017 22:17

I hated cheap sandals as a kid as they were always uncomfortable, as an adult I cannot tolerate DM type sandals or Teva.

Flip flops weren't comfy either .

Being able to wear a trainer sock makes all.the difference!!

I'd have been the same imip Grin

Unihorn · 09/07/2017 22:19

I can attest to the fact that the Animal Swish flip flops are comfortable. I've worn the same pair to Florida on 5 trips before buying new ones!

MaisyPops · 09/07/2017 22:21

I wouldn't worry.
As a kid I wouldn't wear girly clothing at all above a certain age. Now, I love my sandals and it's all I wear other than TOMS and flip flops.

NeverSurrender · 09/07/2017 22:35

My preteen dd won't wear trainers ! Won't wear anything other than crocs in fact! I had to force her into some boots during winter but it wasn't easy!

perhapstomorrow · 09/07/2017 22:38

My dd's have been bugging me to get them some sliders. I think they are the "in" thing. They have flip flops at the mo.

GinIsIn · 09/07/2017 22:41

What about some toms shoes? At least they're lighter than full on trainers....

Gwencooper81 · 09/07/2017 22:46

My 12 wouldn't wear sandals. She wears stinky, vile Nike rifts though. I chuck them in the washer once a fortnight or so.
DD 9 wears full on Nike's with thick socks!

imip · 11/07/2017 06:51

Good lord, I saw another pair of fluffy sliders today. I fear for the next generation....

I'm also developing a very unhealthy interest in looking at people's feet!

Hoppinggreen · 11/07/2017 08:00

I managed to persuade mine into a pair of sporty looking Sketchers flip flops today!!
She quite lazy so I'm hoping that the ease of slipping something on and not having to tie laces might en orange her to wear them

BrieOnAnOatcake · 11/07/2017 09:13

Surely converse etc are better for the feet long term than flip flops !! I don't get why people are encouraging children that way.

If anything I encourage mine the other way!!

Dancergirl · 11/07/2017 09:27

Thanks all, so my dd's not alone in the 'anti-sandal' brigade!

Have heard older dd talking about sliders.

Will take dd shopping and see what takes her fancy.

Sliders is the way to go!

Baalam · 11/07/2017 09:53

Adidas sliders!!

wanderings · 11/07/2017 17:20

I often see whole armies of teenagers in Adidas sliders and socks.

BrieOnAnOatcake · 11/07/2017 17:22

Sliders and socks... Oh dear Lord.

yaela123 · 13/07/2017 08:01

My DD wears sporty type sandals but she has never been one to follow fashion trends luckily

Loopytiles · 13/07/2017 08:05

Lots of sandals and flip flops are bad for feet (arch support, skin) and (eg in the case of flip flops) can make accidents more likely. As long as she doesn't have any skin problems on her feet then converse seem fine IMO!

Dancergirl · 14/07/2017 09:43

Discussed sliders with dd, she's not keen as she said they look uncomfortable!
