I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

Sorry it took me this long to catch up ..
@CRVD wishing you a speedy recovery 💐 May be fruit jellies can help?

@Destinysdaughter I have started a new thread to discuss recipes with special dietary requirements. May be let’s start to discuss few tested recipes there.

BBC website is reporting that supermarkets are going to "drastically" cut product ranges

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-51961624

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/03/2020 20:48

Interesting about the streamlining going on in supermarket supply chains.
I was talking to DH about how unlikely /difficult it will be to 'return to normal' after all this. Hopefully there will be opportunities for positive changes to be made. It isn't as though the whole machine of society can grind to a halt and then just start up again months later, exactly the same, is it?

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/03/2020 20:49

@graphista has humous been covered?
Tinned chickpeas
Tahini
Olive oil
Lemon juice
Garlic
Salt

Yummmmm

Legoandloldolls · 19/03/2020 20:55

No. Things wont be the same after this.

I'm trying to do positive changes. Luckly I have always had far too much cleaning things in the house ( buy the same things every shop, never check my stock levels and rarely clean throughly)so I'm going to spray bleach my loo, wipe off with blue paper then rinse clean with a cloth like I used to before all these wipes. The sunk cloth i will wash but the loo one used to be a j cloth i had used in the kitchen, washed, used for the bath and sink, wash then after the loo. I dont wash them often as i soak them in disinfectant in the kitchen then they bleach on them in the bathroom

Jade1976 · 19/03/2020 21:14

One of my friends posted on fb he saw a history show or something and it said the world will now be like BC and AC.

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/03/2020 21:32

@jade wow, I would like to see that. I think it will be really interesting to read about this in future... not so much to live through it though !!

Vaki · 19/03/2020 21:43

Just a bit of reassurance posting, supermarkets are working damn hard, distribution centres and supermarkets are being given basically free reign to hire as many people as possible to make sure service is maintained so not matter how many go off sick or need to look after family staffing levels will be ok

FazakAli · 19/03/2020 21:47

BBC Good food chick pea recipes

FazakAli · 19/03/2020 21:52

@Sprayitall I'd be tempted to like the post & leave a passive aggressive comment such as 'so generous of you to collect for the food bank!'

Destinysdaughter · 19/03/2020 22:07

Saw on Twitter Jack Monroe who wrote the books about cooking on a Bootstrap and with canned goods is really pissed off as someone else ( probably JO ) has been commissioned to do a TV show about it.

Jade1976 · 19/03/2020 22:07

@TiddleTaddleTat It was (Lord) Peter Hennessy, on the radio.

TiddleTaddleTat · 19/03/2020 22:22

Found it - www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/m000gd09
Lord Hennessy is about 8 minutes in. Fascinating stuff.

BlackeyedSusan · 19/03/2020 22:30

There are at least two recipe threads on here and several in Brexit entitled Brexit cupboard.... One on soups and one on recipes.

AlohaMolly · 19/03/2020 22:47

Hi @VenetoResident it’s me, DS (3) and DP at home. I’m early 30s and in relatively good health, DP is nearly 40 and struggles with a really complicated medical history but not in a high risk group. PIL in their 70s but we shouldn’t see them (in theory!) for 12 weeks now.

I’ve said no to the job. My boss seems to think he should be able to cope with my wage but it’s a tourism based business - holiday homes - so I’m still concerned. I was meant to go and find my teaching certificate to upload it and reregister as a teacher, but I’m wiped out this evening. I think it’s the overwhelm - another afternoon feeling teary.

AlohaMolly · 19/03/2020 22:48

Oh I meant to say I was outraged by BoJo’s lack of fucks today. Such vague answers and epithets - businesses stand by your employees... with what money??

FUCK
OFF
BORIS

Graphista · 19/03/2020 23:43

Thanks for link to recipes op - why a specifically vegan/veggie thread though? I mean suits me as a veggie but what about the omni’s?

@misscockerspaniel slightly alarming “header” but sort of makes sense when you read article. Although anyone who’s seen “inside the factory” will know it’s not that simple! Scary times.

I’m not a huge fan of houmous but I did consider it but I can’t get tahini and I’ve not got a blender yet.

As an ocd sufferer I’m having to change all my rituals which is incredibly stressful.

All local supermarkets here advertising for casual staff, I’m hoping this means people in other zero hours jobs or who’ve been put on unpaid leave by their usual employers because they’ve had to close for now might be able to get some paid work to see them through.

@Fazakali ooo I’ve ordered some wraps I might try the roasted chick pea wrap.

@Alohamolly was there a point you thought Johnson actually cared beyond the appearance of caring boosting his popularity? He doesn’t give a toss!

Weedsnseeds1 · 19/03/2020 23:46

Savoury uses for chickpea water? Yorkshire pudding, pancakes, fritters ( sweetcorn, grated carrot and cumin etc.)

AlohaMolly · 19/03/2020 23:47

I suppose not, I’ve always thought he was a prize cock, but how lovely would it be to have a leader that we could trust? Or at least one who could hide his disdain

WalkingInTheAir13 · 20/03/2020 02:37

@pasanda

Please try not to worry about your son.
I am returning to the UK on Sunday from Bangkok.

DH and I have considered staying here as the number of cases and deaths is a fraction of the UK. But we will return due to visa and health insurance expiration. We will be self-isolating from the time that we arrive home!

VenetoResident · 20/03/2020 06:50

@AlohaMolly

DS (3) and DP at home. I’m early 30s and in relatively good health, DP is nearly 40 and struggles with a really complicated medical history but not in a high risk group.

I think with that background it's good news that you've decided against taking on shop work. Although maybe late night shelf stacking might be lower risk than teaching?

ooopsupsideyourhead · 20/03/2020 07:05

Key worker list = more vague you “should” do this - but only if you can guys, don’t worry!

I can’t decide if I’m surprised or not that there’s no requirement for BOTH parents to be key workers.

AlohaMolly · 20/03/2020 07:39

This has to be good news right? The wage subsidy package??

www.gov.uk/government/publications/coronavirus-covid-19-maintaining-educational-provision/guidance-for-schools-colleges-and-local-authorities-on-maintaining-educational-provision

This is the key worker list. They mentioned on BBC news this morning that just one parent needs to be a key worker and for a pp, it does include postal workers so your medicine should still be delivered.
