I don’t know why another thread hasn’t been created yet , so here you go. Now as we prep ourselves to the peak of this pandemic, let’s all face it together and appreciate how fragile our lives are and how we need each other to survive and flourish.

Re: Clarks and shoes.
See if you can get a Clarks foot measurer online. £15. If out of stock check eBay and fb marketplace. Are Clarks still selling online? If so measure and buy online. Also check fb marketplace for your exact size and width ball out shoes have been bought for £5-£8 and are immaculate

@preponderings remind me what country you are in?

Re: washing fruit
A pp said to wash fruit and veg in lils soapy water and rinse. Just your normal washing up liquid

@CVRD great advice and I really hope you feel better soon. Hi to your cat!🐾

preponderings · 21/03/2020 08:09

lexloofah I'd be wary of using anything that's not edible to wash food in. I've no idea about soaps etc and how they can diffuse (permeate?, no idea of correct term!) into food. I'm in Switzerland.

About buying shoes online. I find it easier to go for a very similar model as the previous shoe and the same make. I rarely go wrong with that. This time I got it wrong because DD's winter boots are a different brand to the shoes I ordered, and I'd already given away the shoes she had last year so I couldn't guess based on them.

I don't know ofwarren. The main supermarket here delivers via the post, so it is possible. I'm outside the limits of where they will deliver alcohol so I never use them. They shouldn't. Because it keeps people out of the shops. But if it comes to a choice of staffing shops or staffing online deliveries, I imagine they'd staff shops.

Useful tips CVRD hope you feel better soon.

Another thing I am thinking is that, god forbid I have to go to hospital I will have to take more stuff than usual as my family won't be able to visit for a time due to isolation so would need to take 14 days worth of clean underwear/soap etc. Although a. I don't think I have that many pairs of knickers! and b. I can see clean clothes being the very very least of my worries.

Also (I think katy mentioned this too) adult DC living at home who lose their jobs/eat in a lot more plus other DC being home a lot more need catering for. I see lots of bread making in their future.

CVRD · 21/03/2020 08:29

Forgot. Also I always have a dosset (?) box with seven days worth of meds ready for hospital visits anyway, but I will change that to 14 days.

Well, if he's getting nasty already, tell him to stay away. Be on the safe side. I generally work on the basis that a) I don't want to potentially give something to someone else b) if DC are fighting something off and already under the weather they're more likely to pick up something else.

I'm sorry where but if she has woken up with a new dry cough you must isolate.

tinkywinkyshandbag · 21/03/2020 09:40

@CVRD I've been thinking same thing if blue lighted to hospital taking a bag full of pyjamas and shampoo will not be top of list and might even get in the way.

I think supermarket online deliveries will continue to happen, they re making a lot of provisions to make sure all onlinr orders can be fufilled as well as instore shoppers being able to get what they want.

Sprayitall · 21/03/2020 09:48

Ok I have received the generic surgical masks I ordered from weldricks but it’s not individually packed nor the outer cover is sealed fully. Should I bother returning them or can I use it as such? I got it for £49.95 the other day because I couldn’t get mask for dd(5) so thought would buy the adult ones and adjust the size with double tape as advised.

@wheredowego I’m sorry your ex is being difficult. My ‘D’P won’t listen either - his parents have invited us for dinner this evening - both over 70 - and he got really quite cross when I said I think it’s silly. I know that if I go, I’m going to be the whipping boy and we are all going to fall out because I think they’re reckless and selfish and irresponsible now.

I’ve got a cheque that I really need to put into my bank but I don’t want to go into town Sad

There are some nice things happening as a result of all this, though. DS (3) and I did a free ballet class via Facebook live this morning!

Someone I know that is a teacher is really upset this morning because she’s been told she might not get weekends off and certainly not school holidays. She’s got a little girl at home and elderly parents and she’s struggling today, as we all are. I’m going to call the teaching council and see if there’s a way of fast tracking re enrolment and then hopefully I can help ease the pressure.

@alohamolly have you checked your banking app? A lot of them now allow you to pay cheques in online?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 21/03/2020 10:12

@AlohaMolly

My bank has an app where you can just scan a cheque in, so don’t have to go to a branch. It’s super convenient. Could you see if yours does anything like that?

Whatthefoxgoingon · 21/03/2020 10:13

@WhatALearningCurve

Haha, great minds!

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:16

Milton is used to sterilise baby bottles so will be safe.

Washing up liquid is used to wash pots ...rinse your fruit and veg, after... They are hardly going to let you wash up in something toxic..

A while back detergent was advised for cleaning around the home, by an expert on R4. I wish I remembered which day and programme.

Google for advice and look for a trusted source, not some random on the internet..

We are self isolating as a household. Partially as Ds might have had a temperature. ( Thermometer buggered can't get a new one) Also as I have a possibly new cough ( difficult to tell with usual health conditions) but it is quite dry. Also been a bit breathless, but again, this is not unusual .. I don't think it is covid as I usually go down quite poorly with everything, we need to keep DD safe.

Medical advice is we can go out to excercise if we keep away from everyone and don't touch anything.a

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:22

Sorry fat fingers...

It is quite difficult, but ex hasn't seen the children. Despite them being with him all weekend before. He is doing deliveries to us.

The kids will go to him the first opportunity.

Luciey · 21/03/2020 10:24

@ofwarren here in Australia grocery deliveries have been suspended by our two major (and only that actually offer delivery) supermarkets. Due to panic buying they couldn't fulfill orders so you can no longer order delivery OR click and collect. They've set up a special ordering process for the elderly, I'll, people in quarantine etc. You need to complete and online form and upload supporting documents then wait to see if you qualify.

Supermarket buying restrictions have now been placed on most categories, you're only allowed to purchase two items per category. I.e frozen chips and frozen broccoli counts as two frozen vegetables. Tinned tomatoes and tinned corn count as two...etc. People here are really struggling to purchase enough food, especially large families.

AlohaMolly · 21/03/2020 10:41

@luciey I’ve just screenshot your post, DP is really resistant to this whole thing. I came down this morning to find he’s eaten quite a few things and it’s really upsetting me. I worked so hard to prep on a really limited budget and he’s not taking it seriously and gets cross when I try and talk about it.

If others get time, I’d love to be able to screenshot similar posts to show him.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:41

How the fuck do you feed a family on two tins? Probably not so bad if you can get two bags of frozen, and two fresh items, but it is going to be limited and boring and not very healthy.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:43

Aloha dp you are a selfish greedy test. Stop stealing the food out of the kids mouths.

BlackeyedSusan · 21/03/2020 10:44

Maybe not one for a screenshot... Grin

AlohaMolly · 21/03/2020 10:59

GrinGrin I might leave that one!!
