Previous history - DD born at 32 weeks in 2015 due to waters breaking. No cause found. Now healthy 5 year old.

Currently 28+6 with DS. Yesterday I went in to be monitored as baby had a quiet day. The monitor picked up tightenings in my stomach. Cervical length was measured again, and has dropped to 2cm, from 3.5cm 3 weeks ago. Suddenly told that this could be the start of things again. I'm sure these "tightenings" have been felt a couple of weeks ago even. I thought it was baby moving high up.

I live in the Channel Islands, so have been told to prepare for medical plane transfer to Southampton hospital. DH will have to stay here until we know what's going, looking after DD. The prospect of giving birth alone, and leaving my home, it's horrible.

I've just dropped DD at school and now need to start packing an emergency suitcase. I can't think straight, I'm so frightened.

I had my scan - cervical length was between 16-17mm. So it has shortened.

My transfer to Guernsey has been approved, but due to the bad weather forecast, I won’t be going anywhere until Monday. I found that really upsetting. Still having tightenings, and just hope I make it to Monday.

Glad the transfer is approved. Praying it all holds off until the weather improves. Have you got a ticket? See if the airline will make you a priority customer. Good luck.

FraterculaArctica · 01/10/2020 21:39

Fingers crossed baby stays in till Monday, that's terrible luck about the weather. Are you 32+0 tomorrow? That's a great milestone if so, hold on to that even if baby does make an appearance on the mainland.

rainbowstardrops · 02/10/2020 07:02

Oh what a bugger about the weather! I hope baby stays put for now and you can fly back on Monday Thanks

NewYearsEveWedding · 03/10/2020 07:07

32+1. Baby still inside for now.

Currently on the monitor and it has picked up tightenings, I think I felt them throughout the day yesterday, randomly spaced.

Flight booked for Monday 🤞🏾🤞🏾

Thanks for your support everyone.

Do they take you to the airport? I hope you are not just put in a taxi with your bags....

Have a good last weekend on the South Coast, watching the rain Smile

NewYearsEveWedding · 03/10/2020 09:19

A midwife will travel with me to the airport, and check me in. Then I’ll be met the other end and taken to the hospital.

I just had a tiny bit of pink discharge. I just feel like I won’t get home. It feels so close, and I can’t cope with the prospect of it all starting now. I just keep crying.

leafeater · 03/10/2020 09:55

I'm sorry, hang in there. Lots of positive thoughts wending towards you.
If there is anything I can bring, do, take you out for a walk in the rain, I'm happy to.

gettingupearlyzzzz · 03/10/2020 18:30

I really hope you make it OP!
Good luck that you can hold on until Monday!

Is your flight early?
Will you have to isolate in the hospital then?

I hope you manage to get some sleep tonight

ThanksThanksCake

Hope you're doing ok OP x

I write this message from Guernsey!!! I arrived back this morning.

I’ve been put in a side room on the labour ward. No staff are allowed in without full PPE and suit, and if I go into labour within the next 7 days, DH definitely won’t be allowed with me. I respect all the rules here, it’s allowed Guernsey to be basically Covid free for so long, but it’s so horrible to be treated like this until a negative result on Day 7.

So now I’ve been told to concentrate on getting to 34 weeks, and not get upset about things right now. I feel very tearful, being so close to home, DH and DD, but I won’t be seeing them for days.

Thank you everyone for your continued support.

Wow what a journey you have been on. I hope the next 7 days pass smoothly for you. At least now your back it will be easier that baby likely to be born closer to home

gettingupearlyzzzz · 05/10/2020 12:12

Yey!
So glad you're back home and baby still inside, this is all excellent news Smile
Keep going, 7 days and you can see your DD!
As you say it's great that Guernsey is COVID free and you can give birth in a COVID free hospital Smile
Try and rest up and relax.....you're at least now the right side of the water! X

rainbowstardrops · 05/10/2020 13:35

That's really hard but at least you're back closer to home now. Stay put bubba!

CatkinToadflax · 05/10/2020 15:17

Just wanted to say well done for getting so far....from the mum of DS1 born at 24 weeks. It’s his 15th birthday next week! Hand on in there and well done for keeping your small person so well cooked. x

leafeater · 05/10/2020 19:51

So pleased to see your update, it must feel great to be on home turf. What a tale you have will have to tell! Seven days will pass quickly Smile

NewYearsEveWedding · 08/10/2020 08:47

Today I am 32+6.

The hospital advised against isolating alone, so I went home on Tuesday to DH and DD. We are all isolating for 7 days, and then have to have covid tests, and then passive isolating for another 7 days.

Thanks for all the support.

So glad that you're at home with DH and DD!!!! That must be so lovely! Your little one is doing a grand job of staying put for now Thanks

Lockdownproblems · 08/10/2020 15:04

So glad you are home! 💐

VictoriaBun · 08/10/2020 16:45

Hopefully plenty of BrewCakeFlowers and cuddles from your dh & dd .

leafeater · 08/10/2020 17:27

That's great, 32/6 is a good number. And very sensible decision not to have to isolate alone, well done hospital....

Feet up, telly on and chill out until at least 37 weeks Smile

Jfw82 · 08/10/2020 21:52

Only found your thread today. So pleased to read start to end and see you are back home in Guernesey. Next stp 34 weeks then fingers crossed you make it to 37. Hope all goes well

NewYearsEveWedding · 09/10/2020 17:32

33 weeks - my waters went at 15:30.

Currently in hospital alone. In my mask, with any staff in full PP. Feeling terrified.

OP posts:
Dodie66 · 09/10/2020 18:46

Praying all goes well

peakotter · 09/10/2020 18:49

Oh my, so sorry to hear this. But glad you got a little visit home first. 33 weeks is a good amount, I’m sure everything will be fine if baby does come, and you won’t have to be in for too long. The PPE must look scary though, not exactly a comforting experience! Sending prayers your way.
