Oh mrsB what a 'tree'mendous debacle... Sorry - I had to go there!

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 06:19

It really was necessary, wasn't it JJ?

jeanjeannie · 20/12/2008 09:08

Morning everyone. I've slept! No, really I HAVE!!! Verity (the child of the Vampire Slayer) woke at 11pm for a feed - then NOTHING until 8am this morning....

Just as well, as I've got the unpredictable, slighty mad Serbian FIL for his Xmas dinner; I need all the strength I can muster! All I need to do is repeat the words 'Calm, Calm, Calm' over again in a mantra-style and I'll be fine!

What is everyone doing today? Last minute shopping? Vegging out? It's all go, go, go for us now with something every day until we go to my parent's house on Xmas Eve.

mrsB.....how is the tree situation? *runs and hides in case she's hit a raw nerve!

johnworf · 20/12/2008 09:30

Morning all. JJ sounds like you won't be cracking nuts in front of the tv then?

I'm just doing last minute orders for 1st class and dropping them off. No more orders next week unless special delivery and I doubt there'll be much of them.

I won't be going near a shop other than post office though. SiL rang me y'day afternoon to tell me taken her 25 minutes just to reverse out of a space in a car park in Oldham! I'll be staying indoors from now until xmas eve when I'm present delivering to the children.

Great that Verity slept! That's your xmas present sorted out then K's good at sleeping through we just have a hard time getting her to go down before midnight but when she's down that's it until 7am.

Your FiL coming round is usually sit-com material isn't it? I'd love to be a fly on the wall when he rings the door bell......haha. I have a picture in my mind of him being like an eastern block version of the mad colonel in Jumanji complete with one of those helmets with a spike on top

Talking of xmas presents......I ordered mine last night from my DH Yes, I really did. It's a whore like outfit of red and black nylon with crotchless pants.....actually it's a Sonicare toothbrush. I'm afraid I really am not very exciting at all...more pragmatic (which is just how I like myself)

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 09:44

Morning all!

Well, I was going to go out today and hit our new Mamas and Papas store, but just no energy, so sent DH to the do the grocery shopping and finish his Christmas shopping! Mamas and Papas will still be there on Monday!! Yayaya no more work until 5th Jan!

Go Verity! Way to sleep!

Don't have many plans between now and 23rd, when we are heading up to In laws for 5 days. God, give me strength on that one! They are lovely people, but my MIL has a brain injury and sometimes the filter between hurt brain and mouth does.not.work!

johnworf · 20/12/2008 12:14

tee have a lovely time with them as next year will be quite different for you all

Festive pics of the LO's for you to see.

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 12:28

JW look how big she is! What a coupla cuties!

mrsboogie · 20/12/2008 12:57

'ullo all

The tree situation is being sorted as I write - Sis is here delivering me belated birthday presents and has taken OH to buy one. I said I want one that's five feet tall but not too wide so he's got to look out for a cylindrical one

Shopping and lunch today with sis, then work xmas lunch on tues and that's it until visiting the greatgrandparents of Himself on xmas day and boxing day. Speaking of whom he slept until 7am this morning then went straight back down 'til 10 - lie in yay!

Yay for a night's sleep jj

Quick MN stop between doing the brussels (with pancetta - OOoooooo, posh!) and hoovering!

JW Gorgeous pics. Is it me or has Princess K got something of her older brother about her? Who'd have thought that she'd be that bonny and bright for Xmas all those months ago? This is one year you can look back on and give yourself a HUGE pat on the back

A fancy toothbrush eh jw - a woman of my own heart - I want a bread bin (stylish, of course) and a pestle and mortar...

tee Good plan sending DH out into the big wide world. I'm not preggie or feeling sick - and that's what I did this morning Your MIL sounds 'interesting'!

I've stuck an xmas pix up of Iris and put some on Facebook too - as I've never put any on before - so now I've got the bug for it!

Must away - I sniff red wine - and as Verity is weaning and there is less boob milk going down - I'm having a 'snifter'

Tee2072 · 20/12/2008 15:41

JJ Iris is adorable! Love her necklace!

hedgepig · 20/12/2008 16:40

afternoon all jst back from thanking B for a cycle (well he cycled & I pushed the pram) to expend some of his energy before bed time.

Lovley pictuer JW and JJ where did you get the rainbow baby gro JW.

Tee I hope you are feeling a little more energetic this afternoon

I posted my Christmas cards this morning, probably late for the rest of you; but actually quite early for me . I will start pressie wrapping tonight.

johnworf · 20/12/2008 16:52

hedgepig it's by ej sikke lej and I think I bought that one from your shop!

Just had a visit from the lady part of the couple over the road. DH sometimes chats to the man part on the field when they're both out walking the dogs....anyhoo...she didn't know we had had a baby until I told her this morning...she'd come to get her delivery that I took in for her....so she's just been back with a bottle of nice champagne for us! Marvellous and very, very kind gift. As I don't drink (and I didn't have the heart to say) and DH doesn't like fizzy shampoo, I'm recycling it to my DS#1 and his g/f. Lovely thought from them to buy for us though.

Hope your dinner of sprouts and pancetta (don't know that recipe) goes down well with James Robertson Justice FiL. I expect there will be plenty of parps around your place tonight

Wildly differing opinions of who Katherine takes after. I'm inclined to think she looks more like DH than myself which would go to explain why she has a look of DSS about her. Although, her eyebrows are still gingerish and that's my side definately. Her hair is in a mad style which could be either myself or DH

hedgepig it's last day today for 1st class (11am I think last post). Surely can't be that early unless you hand deliver?

I'm watching some crappy steve guttenburg christmas film and on the mooch for more chocolate....DH is in Costco...ha ha. Got out of that one nicely I'm starting to get into the festive mood now. Aha! just remembered....MINCE PIES! OOOH YEAH.

mrsb have you done honey I shrunk the tree yet?

lilibet · 20/12/2008 19:08

I take your brussels with bacon, sorry pancetta and raise you beetroot and marscapone risotto with crumbled wenslydale and an iced passion fruit meringue gateaux

  • my best mate always comes round for a meal the Sunday before Christmas and we go to Carols by Candlelight at church.

Yay Verity and JW K is gorgeous and your dss is looking pretty good too

So, it's dh's birthday on Tuesday, poor love, any one nay ideas what we can do? Going out for a meal is a problem as nearly every restaurant is doing Christmas party nights and he's a bit fed up of going for an indian as that's what we seem to do nearly every year.

I had planned a day out in Chester for us all, then cooking something nice at night but had forgotten that ds1 has a paper round at 3 in the afternoon. Give me a bit of inspiration?

johnworf · 20/12/2008 19:27

lilibet are you both off work now so free in the afternoon? Or are you sharing his b'day with the LO's? Or is it just the two of you at night?

I was going to suggest why not take him somewhere that means something to both of you (or just him)? Back row of the pics. Chester zoo. Aisle No. 4 in Tescos. Think you get the idea.

Alternatively, take him to laser quest at the traffic centre with the kids It's a boy thing........I'm told. There's also a big crazy golf next door which I've never tried...surprising eh?

I would quite like to go to church this xmas eve. I think that's when I feel the most christmassy. If I mention going though, DH finds it hilarious and I just can't be bothered with the derision. Hope you enjoy yours though lilibet.

Did anyone see Eastenders on Thursday? Took the prem baby home (that was on a ventilator the week before) to a pub! Fabulous!

hedgepig · 20/12/2008 19:49

JW I am being led into bad ways with my namesake web site- and they have 20% off at the moment. Not a bit of baby camoflage gear in sight how brill thanks
Normally I post Christmas cards to get there for new year so I am early for me, the postie was just walking into the village post office to get the mail bag as I was leaving

Did the Eastender bods give the baby a fag too??

Lilibet - how about a picnic at home - turn up the heating, shorts and shades are compulsory and pretend it is summer

jeanjeannie · 20/12/2008 20:11

Evening all. I survived the meal - which was very nice - I shall be doing the posh pancetta thing again! JW am PMSL@ James Robertson Justice analogy - that is SO him - perfectly! I'm waiting to turn into Margaret Rutherford He was quite subdued. He bought some fab pics round from the early 1900s of his grandparents in Belgrade and and Montegro......so beautiful. They were really wealthy (pre-communist state obviously) so they are all decked out in their finery - looked almost Victorian.

Have a glass of red wine (tee hee...whoops...hic!) and am watching Strictly COme Prancing. Ooooo, I love the dresses.

hedepig that's very energetic of you - cycling and perambulating!

lilibet OK...I surrender....you win!! Oh I LOVE, LOVE Beetroot AND risotto...MMMMmm. Good job as it's Polish Xmas dinner round MILs on Xmas Eve and if you can't stomach beetroot then you're sunk. Mind you - you're also a gonna if Saukraut, poppy seeds and carp aren't your thing either

Oooo more wine? and maybe a cold chicken sandwich...MMMmmmmm

hedgepig · 20/12/2008 21:30

chin chin JJ, I'm just slurping on a glass myself.
now whwere is that sticky tape I must star wrapping

hedgepig · 20/12/2008 21:30

woops I mean .....where and start

johnworf · 20/12/2008 21:55

haha...hedgepig are you turning into an old soak?

I love beetroot but once I went overboard and then my wee turned red and I didn't connect the two...much panic ensued.

jeanjeannie · 21/12/2008 10:26

Hahahahahah - hedgepig have you got a hangover?!!!

Well - yet another night with sleep!! Woke once at 3am - then nowt till 9am !!!!!!!
Am running off the Eden Shopping Centre...OOooo, I wonder if I'll bump into Tess Daly?! She's always being spotted shopping there - only, if i do, I'll tell her that she looked 'rubbish' in that dress on Stricly last night..tee hee.

jw ah yes, the 'I'm dying!' panic when you see the red pee!

What excitment is in store for everyone today?

We're off to kiddies 2 yr old party this afternoon. I'm armed with a card and DP has made lashings of coconut ice. Oh yeah - if you count the cat we're the bloomin Famous Five

Tee2072 · 21/12/2008 13:13

Morning all! Well...afternoon!

I am finally off to check out our new Mamas and Papas. Very interested to see what they've managed to squish into what looks like a not very large store. I am hoping for some maternity clothes, at least!

Cold windy rainy day here!

mrsboogie · 21/12/2008 15:48

Hello all

Quiet day today, in preparation for the big Christmas food shop tomorrow. Lovely little Christmas tree all sorted!

OP posts:
johnworf · 21/12/2008 16:42

mrsb DH is doing ours tomorrow morning. I've warned mentioned to him to get there early as I know it will be busy (it was when I went this morning to get the mince pies for SCBU).

Anyhoo, I've done the list in preparation and there's really nothing on there that's different from normal weekly shop. We're not going overboard and we're having chicken as no one is bothered about turkey and I don't want to eat leftovers on my own for weeks on end....so that's that sorted. We're not planning any major entertaining as no one is allowed round at the mo and we won't be going to anyone elses either. Sounds a tad austere when I write it down but everyone is aware of the situation.

Glad you got a little tree sorted out mrsb. So are you all set? Did you manage to get Manhattan Toys sorted out for OH/LO?

ermintrude13 · 21/12/2008 19:10

Hello all. I wish I'd thought of the wheeze of sending OH off to the supermarket but have already got my Sainsbury's order booked and it should arrive later tonight. Unlike your sensible approach, JW, I've gone overboard and am not sure there will be room in the fridge/freezer/cupboards. It was a bit galling to be buying so much booze I can't drink but quite a few folk will be dropping in and might not take kindly to being offered lime and soda or Ovaltine . Also, I seem to have got into a bunker mentality, ordering unnecessary quantitites of toilet roll, coffee and baked beans, 'just in case'. Actually, too much of the latter two items and we might need the bogroll. . Beans on toast will be part of my festive menu once the in-laws have gone on 27th. Kids are already too excited, might have to crack open the anti-histamenes (my parents used to dose me up on anti-hists, with the excuse of it being to stop me scratching my eczema. They were sedating me!!)

mrsboogie · 21/12/2008 19:13

we did indeed jw got some lovely things and found some other makes of really sweet toys as well.

jw it doesn't sound austere to me - sounds like a nice intimate cosy family Christmas with a new (ish) baby. Ideal, in my book and not a damn sight different to what I am planning out of choice! There will be plenty of Christmases where Little Miss K can be fawned over by hordes of rellies in the future.

Anyway - not that austere - by my reckoning you have eaten about a half hundredweight of mince pies at this point
