Thorntons eh ermintrude mmm...

Yeh, the sales are quite annoying - making me buy stuff I don't really need rather than making my present-buying cheaper.

It looks horrible out there - I shan't be budging outside the door either (no change there then) am on permanent door answering duty for all my internet shopping deliveries at the mo - although some bugger of a courier tapped quietly on the door at about 7am this morning and ran away before we even knew he was there

I am a week before xmas person too when it comes to decor and I get mighty sick of looking at it as soon as xmas is over. Usually put the tree up around my birthday which is the 14th - hopefully the decorating will be finished by then..

On the subject of Thorntons, I've just gone wild and bought 3 x 620g (that's 2 layers) boxes of Continentials. They were £17.62 each on the new VAT price, but they were on a threefer AND today and tomorrow you get 25% off everything if you type in the code XBK9 at checkout. So I got all 3 for just over £26 - half-price - and even when £4.95 p&p is added they come to just over a tenner each. One for my brother and SIL, one for the in-laws and - oopsie, there's one spare here, what shall I do with that?

johnworf · 04/12/2008 10:52

ermintrude I'm off to Thornton's website......you're a very bad influence!

Tee2072 · 04/12/2008 11:06

ermintrude first of all, no spies around, all in Board Meetings all day! Not to mention, I'm feeling a little blah, not in hospital, am allowed to leave the house!!

Second off, you are so evil to share that Thorntons thing. I may have to go have a look...

JW it really sounds like teething to me, although, what do I know? My first is still easy to carry around and causes no trouble!

johnworf · 04/12/2008 11:12

mmmmmmmmmmm I just bought 3 boxes! Like you say ermintrude, two to give out and one for me Omg, I so love Continental...I just know that I'm going to get extremely fat over xmas....fatter than I already am...and no excuse now of a baby in there

ermintrude13 · 04/12/2008 11:15

heh heh. shame i'm not on commission. but it's a real bargain, so worth passing on i thought. and i'm definitely going to blame my festive belly on the baby, even though the bump is currently indistinguishable from the general wobbliness.

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 11:19

right! that's it - I'm off to Thorntons website - resisted first time but when very naughty people pile discount counts onto the temptation - what's a person to do??

OP posts:
mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 11:45

meant discount codes - got overexcited at the thought of chocolate

well have ordered 41 'worth and it only came to £22 yummy and double yummy

johnworf · 04/12/2008 12:57

mrsb I always find that it tastes nicer when you bagged a bargain as well . I had to prize myself away from that site otherwise I would have spent a fortune...and I might add, on myself (hangs head in shame).

I've polished off the two boxes of mince pies so I feel very festive and fat (btw it wasn't all in one day...I spread it over 3 days )

I went into a big woolworths on Sunday and they're flogging everything off cheap. Although it did look like a jumble sale when I went in but I got DH a very nice squash racquet reduced from £40 to a fiver! That's his b'day prezzie sorted.

By my mathemications mrsb you're a capricorn like my DH? ...goes off to ponder this thought

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 13:07

nope jw a Sagittarius

oooh all the choccies I ordered are for domestic consumption no fear!

Karen Matthews guilty - theres a surprise!!

jeanjeannie · 04/12/2008 13:09

Afternoon all. Who mentioned Thorntons first??? Come on - own up? A*se! Ive just gone Continental CRAZY! One for me - one for my mum. One for me - One for my Mum. TWO for me - one for my mum.

jw sounds to me like grumbling teeth. We've just been to a playgroup where I left Verity rolling around on a rug with another baby. Turned my back to get Iris and when I looked, Verity had grabbed the other baby's sleeve on its babygrow and was sucking it furiously Had to explain to the very nice mum that it was teething!

OOoo, just heard that Shannon Matthew's mum & uncle have been found guilty - Good. Hope the sentence is bloody long.

mrsB A capricorn. MMmm, like my Dad - stubborn old goat [hwink]

Who is putting up their decorations this week? I may leave it another week as I fear the tree may be bald within hours after Iris gets her hands on the baubles!

jw any outside lights this year for your goodself? Something 'special' from Costco perhaps?!!!

ermintrude13 · 04/12/2008 13:17

I mentioned the Thornton's deal first AND I'm a Capricorn. Wanna make something of it,JJ?

JW, whose mince pies are best, do you think? Thus far I've sampled Sainsbury's extra-deep, M&S's standard ones and some nice brandy ones from Co-op. Have to say, there's not much in it, but there are many, many brands to munch through before I make a final decision . Gaaa. I used a festive smiley, this early in December! I'll be putting an 8-foot illuminated Santa and his sled on the front wall next. Costco, you say? Not sure if there is one in Nottingham, will check it out...

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 13:20

now now jj no starting the christmas decorations rivalry - you know what this lot are like - there'll be seven foot santas and a full complement of reindeers outside johnworf towers by the weekend! then I'll be forced to get my 12 foot mechanical snowman out of the garage with my 10,000 bulb lights set and all hell will break loose

OP posts:
johnworf · 04/12/2008 13:21

JJ I'm thinking...hmmm...large deflated snowman.....lights left hanging from the guttering from last year (icicles), a very large santa and all his reindeers in their neon glory across the front of the house.

What about you?

No surprise on the verdict for those two

Thorntons must have done a lot of business form this thread today!!!

From the sounds of what Verity has been up to (sucking ambush) K is getting some teeth in them there gums. Comes around quick doesn't it?

johnworf · 04/12/2008 13:22

hahahaha X posts...and LOVING the decorating rivalry!

Tee2072 · 04/12/2008 15:57

No one has to worry about my joining the Christmas decorating rivalry, as I live in a flat and have no room for even a tree!

Although I suppose I could put an inflatable Santa on our balcony...hmm...

dreamydowler · 04/12/2008 16:23

We put up our huge inflatable snowman at the weekend my dutiful partner scaled the roof of the garage and is rather cheesed off that the horrible weather has left him deflated and soaking wet our icicle lights are blowing about in the rain and wind and Im left wondering why we didnt wait Im hoping to put the indoor decs up this weekend and try to make a start with the mammoth task of xmas shopping for 8 kids and a grandchild aswell as umpteen neices and nephews and parents thorntons chocs are looking very tempting

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 16:23

awww tee if you were any good you'd be up a ladder decorating the whole block! just think how many icicles you could have hanging off the roof

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 04/12/2008 16:31

Now there's an idea, mrsB!! And with the hotel across the street and the office building just down the block, I could really go to town!!!

johnworf · 04/12/2008 17:20

I'm wondering if we'll get a cut in our mortgage rate Can't believe how low the interest rates are now.

DM news; I'm absolutely refusing to feel inadequate by looking at pics of the enhanced Mrs cole...and I'm finding the airbrushed Madonna pics laughable. Although the Nicola WAG person is very grating (her of the huge fake breasts fame). She's had her 15 minutes of fame and now she's milking it (pardon the pun). Lorraine Kelly??? WTF?

Also bottom of the page is santas helpers. Excellent!

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 17:38

I am in a conundrum ladies - I bought some furniture of The Pier online 2 weeks ago and have just spotted on the bbc website that it has gone into administration. Ordered the stuff 2 weeks go nd when I rang to chase it today they told me that their delivery takes up to 4 weeks. What's the chances of me getting the stuff? does being in administration mean that they continue business as normal or what?

OP posts:
Tee2072 · 04/12/2008 17:45

I think they don't, actually, mrsb. Have you checked their website?

Tee2072 · 04/12/2008 17:46

MrsB Wait, I found this quote on BBC "While in administration the business will continue to trade as normal. We are now reviewing options and are seeking a buyer for the business as a going concern.?

mrsboogie · 04/12/2008 18:12

oh phew, ta tee

I will keep my fingers crossed

OP posts:
johnworf · 04/12/2008 18:43

I here everything is at knock down prices in Woolworths and they're not ordering in any more stock (how can they? they have no money). Might be worth a look if you can wander down to your local store (website went down like the Titanic a week ago).

Blimey mrsb. Seems you really have to be careful who you shop with. I thought The Pier was quite a big going concern. I saw there sale last week as well Hope your stuff comes ok. Can't you ring them again and get a firm delivery date? Sooner rather than later....
